Why would the body be dismembered, it wasn't to conceal the identity. Even the navel jewelry was still on the torso. You would think the jewelry would be the first to be removed.
To dismember a body in this way would not be easy!

I totally agree and have wondered about the jewelry, too. When I thought BF was involved I had some thoughts on the why's....now I just don't know what this creep was doing.

I agree. I think the killing was personal and the dismemberment for concealment and transport. Maybe he figured sharks would get her? Again, not sure about shark activity in these waters, if anyone knows??

The Gulf Coastal waters have numerous bull sharks.

Lawn care?? That's funny to me! I'm curious why you think that? I have no idea or explanation for why I imagine him as wealthy. Were the escorts high dollar? Wasn't one of the women at a house in the Hampton's when she went running to the neighbor's house? It's a very wealthy place out there so I guess I imagine him fitting right in, and his dumping ground would be a place where he is familiar and comfortable. If he has a house in the Hampton's he most likely works in the city making big $$$. I realize that MOST SK are avg to below avg. intelligence, lacking education and loners, but I think LISK is very intelligent, educated and charming. I think he does it for sport. LE is a possibility, he has eluded them for a long time so he certainly knows what he's doing. Have there ever been SK in law enforcement? I studied them extensively in college (and interviewed one) and know that they tend to favor careers on LE/ security - but often aren't smart enough to make the cut or have issues in the background check or phych eval which prevents them from accomplishing it. Anyway, off-topic, I know, but interesting nonetheless!

I'd have to go back through what I read, but I think I thought lawn service when the wrappings of the bodies were described. Or tree nursery, something like that. Someone who was comfortable with and had ready access to those specific materials.

I'm sure you're right about the LE misperception. I suppose we don't want to believe that John Q. Murderer could operate so completely under the radar.

I don't think this person dismembered the body for transportation reasons. There are to many different pieces.

I don't think the person thought that everything, including the clothes, would wash up on shore like that either.

This isn't making any sense to me. Why so many pieces?

From the time period that they think her body had been in water it appears that the crime was committed not long after her leaving work.

Hopefully, video will reveal some answers and justice will be served swiftly.

I think you're referring to Shannan Gilbert, and she was not in the Hamptons when she was murdered.

Just for the record, a significant chunk of the people in the Hamptons at any given point are office workers piled up into rental homes. I'm not sure where it gets its reputation for being such a fancy place, because every time I've ever been there, it's more like Jersey Shore with marginally better clothing.

The location where the victims in question were dumped is the more-downscale south shore of Long Island, nearly 100 miles away. It's a large place.

Gerard Schaefer comes to mind. He was a Florida LEO who used his uniform to lure his victims. This is a link to his thread in the Serial Killer forum:

Also, for new members who might not be aware, in the SK forum there is a sub-forum dedicated to the LISK murders:

Long Island Serial Killer - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

ETA: Just an aside: When a SK was active in NOLA during the '80s-'90s, for a long time, the primary suspect was an NOPD dectective. He was eventually cleared and remains on the force today.

To get the body from crime scene to disposal, small would be better I think.

It looks to me like he didn't much care if she washed up, he just didn't want to be seen with the body if it was obviously a body.

That makes me think he probably killed her in the city and took her out of the city around morning rush hour.

I hate having to type that stuff.

To put this bluntly, again, I think it's really inappropriate for people to suggest that HM was the victim of a murder. Especially on random news stories regarding the death of another person. There has been no confirmation that HM was murdered, and it's cruel to suggest otherwise in a place where HM's friends and family might read that.

Can't access it due to filter - can you post the details for me pretty please??:please:

Paraphrasing:

Ms Moulder worked with JL, according to a poster on WS. The comment says Ms Moulder was murdered in March.

ETA: again, this is according to the comment section of the linked article. These are not my personal statements.

If the body was dismembered for transportation purpose, why dismember the feet from the calves? It makes no sense to me, my whole leg including thigh, calf and foot is not much longer than my torso. IMO, no reason to remove the feet.

Yes, that's her. Thank you for the insight!! I've been to NYC but not LI or Hampton's so only know what I've seen on TV about the homes and celebs there. Very interesting thoughts.

Thanks! How far out do you have to go for bull sharks? In BSL it's quite shallow for quite a ways out. Would they be in 4-5 feet of water? Is it much deeper over in NOLA?

Bull sharks can go in very shallow water - up close to the beach. They can also swim up rivers.

I agree. Distance shouldn't dismiss any possibility in the 21st century.

And I agree that simply given their work environment, dancers are similar targets-

-Women that someone thinks no one would miss.
-Women that a certain kind of predator believes they're entitled to.

Also, women more likely to get into vehicles with men...JMO

What kind of container do you think was used to transport everything then since all the pieces are seperate?

BBM

behind the hedges and past the trees are GIGANTIC estates

Those folks aren't in the same shops as you and I and a lot of them commute to the city by helicopter. Mostly money people and celebrities. They like their fancy extra fancy. =|

Most of Long Island is definitely northern New Jersey.

Montauk's pretty and I LOVE Fire Island.

That's enough OT outta me

It also sounds like the body was dismembered at the joints. Possibly a hunter, butcher or some one in the Medical Profession. Unless they used a power tool.
MOO

I don't think I got that far yet. ;-)

I immediately thought of Melanie McGuire and her luggage.
