I dunno I was thinking the manager might be a little sympathetic to the boyfriend saying he couldn't contact her, she was reported missing, since they had been staying 2/3 months.Like maybe saying, well, see if she shows up here in a little while...

Good luck finding anywhere in NYC for $1,500 a month.

And while housing in New Orleans isn't as cheap as it is in most other places, $1,500 a month for that particular piece of housing is steep. The hotel owners should be ashamed of themselves.

Except that its intended purpose is probably not meant to be "housing"...it's supposed to be a short, super cheap place to crash (although I never would!).

I think I read that her boyfriend moved out at about the same time that he reported her missing. Clearly, she paid the rent. The motel owner is probably fibbing a little when he says that the boyfriend voluntarily moved out when he couldn't pay rent. More likely, the motel owner kicked him out. Since he moved in next door, I assume he took all of their possessions with him. But remember that police may already have searched the room by then.

why is it that we are not hearing anything about Jaren's and bf's child?

I can't imagine the upheaval in this poor child's life?

Losing mommy, then moving into cramped quarters with an "acquaintance".

Sounds like Jaren was supporting him. Was she their only source of income?

His Facebook page says he works for a scaffolding company, but I don't believe that's current because the company is located 30-40 minutes away from where they were staying. It sounds like they didn't have transportation, so not likely he's cabbing back & forth to work everyday like she was.

I respectfully disagree on the parking issue, especially being that this was during a weeknight & that time of the night/morning. I just attended a rehearsal dinner that was held on a banquet hall on Bourbon St. on a Thursday night, and we parked right outside the venue's doors on a side street. It all depends on what, if anything, is going on.

If you don't mind me asking, do you know which block of Bourbon the rehearsal hall was located on? Parking does ease up as you get farther away from Canal, but everyone I've ever met who lives or works in the neighborhood pays to park in a garage. If they drive there at all, that is.

I have to say neither transportation or concealment make sense to me.

You have a torso, so why calf, thigh, feet. As far as concealment the tattoos could have been remove.

Pannicked and/or on drugs maybe?

I would bet that there was/is extensive drug use/abuse in the life of this perp.

You're right. On a weeknight, especially, one can find parking spots on the side streets a block or two off of Bourbon. But that still leaves the surveillance cameras around the club and on the street.

In all respect, it seems that you don´t have all the info on the LISK killer.

FYI:

Here are 3 suspected Long island Serial Killer victims, they were ALL 3 dismembered:

http://www.jcs-group.com/enigma/fascination/long.html

Jessica Taylor Discovered 3/29/11
Age: 20
Hometown: Upstate New York
Last seen: Working as a prostitute on 7/21/03 at Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.
Taylor's remains were first found on 7/26/03 in Manorville, NY.
Her head and limbs were later found on Cedar Beach on 3/29/11.
The killer mutilated a tattoo on Taylor's hip.

Jane Doe #6 Discovered 4/11/11
Age: Unknown.
Body found 11/19/00 in Manorville, NY.
Head and limbs were later found on Cedar Beach.

Jane Doe #10 Discovered 4/11/11
Legs found on nearby Fire Island on 4/1/96 and skull near Tobay Beach in 2011.

Here is some additional info:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/nyregion/more-human-remains-are-found-on-long-island.html
Four other sets of human remains found off Ocean Parkway, on Jones Beach Island, included body parts from two victims who had been dismembered and whose torsos were discovered in Manorville, about four miles from where the newest remains were discovered, the authorities said.

Most of the remains of one of those victims, Jessica Taylor, 20, were found by a woman walking her dog off Halsey Manor Road in Manorville, shortly after Ms. Taylor disappeared in July 2003. She had worked as a prostitute in Washington, and briefly in New York. Her head and hands, were discovered in March off Ocean Parkway, about a mile from the location of the bodies of the other four women.

In November 2000, most of the body of another victim — who has not been identified but whom detectives refer to as Jane Doe No. 6 — was discovered in the same heavily wooded area of Manorville where Ms. Taylor’s torso was discovered.

The head, hands and other remains of Jane Doe No. 6 were found in April off Ocean Parkway.

I just had a horrible thought, Bessie in one of your earlier posts you said you felt like this was intentional with Jaren's killer. Like they were sending a message.

What if that's exactly what it is and it IS the Long Island Serial Killer announcing his presence to LE?

I really hope not but reading back over these last pages to catch up it really struck me. I pray it's not!

I wonder how much press the finding of Jaren would have even had, if Mickey was not also missing...and how much follow-up will take place in the media...

  • #651
I pray that Jaren's little girl never knows the details of her mother's death!

From this latest info regarding bf's move...
I am thinking Jaren was the primary or only source of income.

We were on the 500 block and parked on St. Louis. In fact, when I first saw the picture of Jaren, I would swear I saw her that night. She immediately looked familiar to me since I was just down in that area. Weird.

In regard to why Lockhart's boyfriend left the room so quickly: beyond the lack of funds to pay the rent, it's possible he had valid reasons to not want to be alone in the room. He called the police quickly after Lockhart's disappearance, despite the fact that she's acknowledged to have gone missing for brief periods before.

That could also explain why the police haven't revealed his name.

:bump: bumping for lindsayw

FWIW, here's a story about another Bourbon St dancer who moved here in the spring of 2009 and was murdered two months later. Her body was found in the stairwell of an abandoned City Hall annex. Initially, LE thought she'd cut her wrist. Months later, her death was officially ruled a homicide. I hate to say it, but this happens more often than one might think.

August 7, 2009
The morning of July 23, she was found dead, with cuts on her neck and wrist, in a third-floor landing of a stairwell in the vacant, moldering City Hall annex on Canal Street.

The circumstances surrounding Ball's death remain a mystery. But the background story is a familiar one for New Orleans: A troubled person drifts into the city, takes chances, finds action among dicey characters on Bourbon, then becomes a casualty.

A woman found dead under strange circumstances inside a vacant Mid-City building in July was murdered, the Orleans Parish coroner determined Monday.

A suspect was named in January 2010. I haven't followed up to find out if he was eventually arrested.

Just got back from a day trip to New Orleans and am so sad to see this news. Prayers for Jaren's family.

  • #657
She was probably paying the daily rent with nightly tip money.

Interesting question about her possessions.

I'm betting the rent had to be paid by noon!

To give people an idea of how many cameras exist in the area Lockhart went missing, here's an article about the Douglas Schantz disappearance, who initially vanished two blocks away:

Meanwhile, FBI agents, U.S. marshals, and Houston private investigators helped local police officers collect surveillance tapes from virtually every private business in the French Quarter, Riley said.

That mound of tapes led detectives to the Natchez, docked on the Mississippi.

Video showed Schantz left Razzoo at 2:06 a.m. and walked down Toulouse Street toward the river, Riley said. Cameras spotted him on Toulouse between Bourbon and Royal streets and again at the corner of Toulouse and Chartres streets.
