Yes it was broadcasted right after the updates that police are on the lookout for a person(s) that is dismembering deer in Hancock County, near where poor Jaren was found. I wonder if this is somehow related?

Speaks is in court today; glad his is behind bars (even if he didn't harm Jaren) because as an RSO it is absolutely a disgrace for him not to have registered!! What about the families living by him? Don't they deserve that warning? I know if I had children I would be horrified to know there was a monster next door or around the block and I wasn't given the knowledge to tell them to stay away from him.

I wonder if the suspect who was living freely was the man in a duo last seen with a girl who was killed and dismembered if people would be more outraged that he is still roaming the streets and living among the public. If MAS was in jail but TS was out free, would there be more outcry? Is it because she's a woman that the public seems to largely be giving her a pass and assuming she wasn't the murderer or mastermind behind the murder & dismemberment & we shouldn't fear for our lives?

Please note I'm talking about the NOLA/Mississippi Coast communities as wholes, not those of us on WS or Quarter Rats who seem to know the real deal on MAS. Whenever I talk to people from NOLA about this case & the lack of arrest(s) I often hear "yeah but he's locked up" referring to TS. Yeah, okay, but for how long (I'm not super confident in states' will to keep sex offenders, even ones like TS, locked up for as long as they should be)? And what about MAS? Until we know more facts or someone(s) get/s charged, how do we know she's not the more dangerous of the duo (or even equally dangerous) & that the public isn't at risk by her being free?

Someone needs to contact the media around here and find out what happened. I personally believe that he and his faux bride MAS did kill Jaren. The circumstantial evidence against the both of them are very overwhelming!

Did you know that TS became a RSO in North Carolina because he was living with a 14 year old girl for more than a month? Sadly, the mother knew about it too. She was charged with felony child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. (She finally told the police, because the girl was not attending school.)

TS and the 14 year old were living as a couple and TS was finally caught when he was arrested by the police for stealing a motorcycle and being with a 14 year old girl.

J4J Just hoping to find some good news here. Wondering too if Jaren's case even was a role in todays sentencing? Seems to me ot should considering she was last seen alive in his company & that he is still considered a suspect by MS law enforcement. Also what about forensics & the "hair of hope"? Thought FBI was making the results of Jaren's case a higher priority.Are they still waiting on forensic test results or was there nothing concrete there? Why is there never any new news? It always seems just the same old song & dance report. With this being such a horriffic crime how can there possibly be no concrete evidence? Not only that, but someone out there somewhere knows something that could at least aid in solving this crime. How could any person not come forward with any knowledge they might have as to what happened, especially considering they could do so anonomously. Think of Jaren's family, her daughter. They deserve not only JUSTICE FOR JAREN, but also answers so that they might possibly be able to have some closure & an opportunity to move forward with their lives. It gets harder each day to stay positive that there will be justice, but I continue to pray that there will be. RIP Jaren! J4J

I have just contacted my local news. They have been very good about keeping people informed about this case. Hopefully we will know an update about TS's sentencing by tomorrow. (They were very eager to find about this news and they will check into it.) I'm sure that Steve Saucier, the lead investigator with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department already knows. It would be nice to hear an update from him too.

Sometimes there are Jailhouse informants, that maybe able to get a confession from TS. We should all hope so. Meanwhile his very creepy accomplice is running loose somewhere. That is scary! I'm sure that she has created a new identity for herself by now to try to fool some more gullible people!!

Terry Speaks, a suspect in the June slaying and dismemberment of Bourbon Street dancer Jaren Lockhart, was sentenced in a North Carolina courtroom on Thursday to serve two years and eight months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender, his attorney said. Speaks pleaded guilty to the charge after authorities arrested him in Louisiana, according to his private defense attorney Alan Doorasamy.

"He couldn't leave the middle district of North Carolina without letting his probation officer know, so he had no defense to that" charge, Doorasamy said.

Doorasamy said his client, who has been held in police custody since his arrest, had not been questioned about Lockhart's slaying since he was extradited to North Carolina in late June.

Parts of Lockhart's corpse began washing up on the shoreline of Hancock County, Miss., on June 7. As a result, the Sheriff's Office there has been in charge of the investigation, although Lockhart was last seen alive in New Orleans. Surveillance cameras captured her leaving Temptations, the Bourbon Street strip club where she worked, with Speaks and Margaret Sanchez, who has also been named as a suspect in the killing.

Speaks and Sanchez were arrested June 13 in Tangipahoa Parish after police received a tip on their location and performed a traffic stop.

Don Bass, chief deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, has said that the investigation into Lockhart's killing will not be affected by Speaks' extradition and imprisonment out-of-state. "It doesn't bother us in the least," Bass said in late June. "As long as he's in custody, we know where to find him."

In 2003, Speaks, 39, was convicted in Surry County, N.C., for having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Sanchez was released from the Tangipahoa Parish jail in August after the district attorney there refused a charge of harboring a sex offender -- the most serious count she faced.

He probably hasn't been interviewed since because he or his lawyer refuse to. They do have that right. I am concerned, though, about the scant information that came out and the fact that the test results apparently aren't back or they are but nothing worth talking about came back.

(I was out for about a month hospitalized when a pocket of infection burst in my kidney and I went septic and still have memory and other issues from my fever being ~107 for over a week) Thank you for that info. IIRC the minimum sentence is ~5 years for not registering as a sex offender. That is nowhere near enough, and MAS walking free angers me as well. However sick that is though, I am glad we live in a society where we are Innocent Until Proven Guilty and have faith (most of the time) in LE, although we do have way too many crooked cops and unsolved murders. It is scary to me too. I live about about 2 blocks from Bourbon in the in the CBD and lived in the Quarter before that on Barracks. I get my daily coffee at Jagerhaus, tan in the Quarter, get my hair done in the Quarter, and right after Katrina worked at Rick's Cabaret briefly. I am an unmarried woman who carries a Sig and *Big Word of Advice* WASP SPRAY. It has the same blinding powers of pepper spray and can be shot from a much further distance. My mom found me a smaller can online (and I carry a biga** purse). It has kept me from heading out alone late at night like I used to do; that is for sure. I pray every night they find evidence to charge MAS and TS for Taking Jaren's life and treating her in such a horrific way, and that both will pay. I know the theory has floated that they were more or less bait to get her to the killer, and I find that just as plausible and disgusting. There are so many other single women who live/work within blocks of where she was taken that I am sure this has also given a lot more to worry about too. I know I used to go out to Deja Vu for drinks and dinner at midnight whenever the mood struck and often walk alone and unarmed; now I either take my bf or a cab or don't go at all. There is really no sentence a judge can give to either of them that is severe enough to truly be Justice for Jaren; but THE Judge will most certainly handle these sickos when their number is up (judging by their lifestyle, that will be soon) :furious:

This was a big disappointment with just 2 years and 8 months! I wonder how much time in jail that TS will actually serve, since he has been in prison already? I wonder if that time counts? He definitely has a history of problems with the law.

I don’t know about this “theory” about TS and MAS being bait to lure her to the real killer. I personally believe that they have acted on their own. Why would MAS walk around the French Quarter freely after she was released from prison, knowing that she would have been a target?

On a personal note – I am so glad that you are doing better after being hospitalized for a month. As for any kind of pepper or wasp spray, please remember that Mickey Shunick desperately tried to fend off her killer by spraying him with mace and even stabbing him!

My best advice for all the ladies reading this – please take a self defense class! I have had some military training and I have taught my teenage nieces some important self defense moves. Nobody would want to mess with my nieces now! They can now inflict a lot of pain on their attackers. Some communities offer self defense classes for free by local police departments. Perhaps you and other may want to check into this. Good luck with the Miss New Orleans pageant. I know that you will do great! Either way, you can be a big help on this Websleuths forum.

I am more surprised with TS having a "private" attorney than his length of sentence to be served. Dating back to 2003, he has in my opinion, never served or was sentenced enough time for being a RSO. I also wonder too Columbo if time served will be shaved from the 2 years 8 months.....it probably will. Heck, he probably would have been sentenced longer for stealing a piece of bubble gum.

On a side note:

Back in early November, I was reading older posts/threads and going over notes I had and started doing random google searches with information I had re-read in regards to TS's mothers maiden name. I came across an ad for a truck on Winston-Salem's Craigslist which I believe to be posted by TS's mother. Thought nothing of it then but now I wonder if it was an attempt to raise retainer money for a "private" attorney. I am refraining from posting the source as when I enlarged the photo there is a clear image of a lady that can be seen on the other side of the truck, which in my opinion is TS's mother.

I refuse to get discouraged by this news and now will pray even harder for a Christmas Miracle and Justice for Jaren!

Thanks Colodumbo! Unfortunately I did not win but I still am looking into ways to bring more awareness to this case as I own my own event planning and promotional co. One of my clients is an Estate Planning firm in Jaren's hometown and I arranged for weekly radio shows about retirement planning on 107.1 on every Saturday at 11am and Sun at noon. (I think These are correct times, will find out soon, i have a lot of jobs right now bc of MG and Super Bowl.) Most are prerecord end Q&A sessions but as we are up for renewal and will need to record new shows I will request the owner of the company (who I have been w for 6 years, and worked for 5) to take 2 minutes out of the show to remind all listeners of Jaren's case, give the hotline number, and to make sure no one forgets even the smallest tip can solve the case. If her family were more open to promotion I would gladly organize a gala or benefit for them for no profit.
PS my ex is a former Olympic hopeful in TaeKwonDoe and taught me quite a few tricks, thank God. But I am not afraid to use my weapons, although I would use the wasp spray before the gun. I am well trained in firearms as I come from an -eaux heritage on one side lol Sadly however many women aren't.

As for MAS walking free around the Quarter, I think she might just be delusional enough to think no one will recognize her.. I mean look at their disguises. I think they did it as well but there just is not enough proof yet to charge and prosecutors want a sure case, BUT even if they were just bait that is just as sick and they are just as guilty!!!!
