Short recess for prosecutors to get a copy of a DNA report. One juror stretched when she stood up. A lot of science in court this morning.

Prosecution outlining scenarios in which no bodily fluids, DNA would be found: cleaning, body's exposure to elements, etc.

Carolyn Scofield ‏@NewsCarolyn 21s21 seconds ago

Defense on cross: there's another reason why DNA might not be found, because there was no DNA there in the first place, is that correct?

Thanks once again Queen Bee. That's a lot of work and just want ya to know how much it's appreciated.

My impressions so far...well...I don't want to jinx it but suffice it to say that we have gotten what we knew we'd get and then a bit more. We knew there was going to be a lack of DNA evidence etc that put her in the car or the house. Not worried about that. I almost found it humorous earlier on when Speaks was representing himself and appeared to set up the argument that Jaren didn't leave with them. Speaking of self representation...that plan back fired on Speaks. He attempted to intentionally sabotage his case in the hopes of getting a mistrial. Judge did an excellent job of handling that and cutting it off at the head. Keeping the lawyers onboard as consultants was wise. However, as much as any of the evidence, that maneuver would make me think the guy is nuts and guilty as any of the evidence. I've been trying to think of one, and maybe there is, but I can't think of a case where an innocent person represented themself. Seems only the guilty that think they're smarter than the system even try.

Things I don't recall or that were new to me:

All but a confession on the phone to the manager.
Neighbor seeing him carrying trash bags to the trunk and looking scared when seen.
Finding of shoe strap in burn pile (Bessie, is this what we were trying to determine in those pictures? Seems we had a discussion thinking it was a necklace at one time).

DNA Analyst: no way for me to assign a probability or quantify which scenario is more likely for lack of DNA evidence in house or car.

Gotta say, pretty impressed with all those involved from what I'm reading, other than Speaks. Judge has kept things under control. BTW - The motions for mistrials are just formalities and routinely asked for and denied. If the ADA has to start arguing against one of them, that's when you pay attention. The prosecution has done an excellent job in presentation from what little I can tell. Wanted to end the day yesterday with the emotions and imagery attached to the photos so that is what the jurors took home with them. They had to address the lack of DNA and did it in the morning now. They knew it would be boring and uneventful so got it out of the way before they really get started. I'm assuming we're going to hear more about the emails and jailhouse confessions and maybe from Jaren's mom and that might be it. Even the defense attorneys are doing a solid job. The only thing they can do is hammer away at the lack of DNA and they seem to be doing that.
