I'm local and I've been following this since last night. I looked at the area on google earth but I'm confused about how the waterways connect. Can anyone figure it out? They aren't giving the exact address so it's hard to pinpoint. Any other locals who might know the area?

According to officials, the search began around 7:00 p.m. Monday evening and is focused on the lake behind Garber’s property on Garber Road.

This morning (Tuesday, September 5, 2017) folks with kayaks or canoes were asked to meet at Mashburn’s machine shop at 6:30 a.m.

Update: Katc just reported that they were found safe at Lake Martin! I'm local, too. Garber Road (Broussard LA) is a short road that turns into Bayou Tortue Road. Bayou Tortue does feed to Lake Martin. I wonder if it could be Bayou Tortue. Bayou Tortue is a narrow, shallow and winding bayou (more of a creek). Most times you have to portage (drag your canoe or pirogue). We've had rising water due to Hurricane Harvey. It's not a body of water that you could use a motor boat.
