I can see why he'd pick that road. I wonder, what is the rest of the town like? Heavily populated? Sparsely wooded?

Hwy 59 has lots of roads like Lotus. Some are full of subdivisions and some are like Lotus rd.. Lotus isn't very long... then you hit Lotus rd ext. There are lots of houses on the left of lotus ext. Mostly woods with a house every few acers on the left. The whole Lotus rd including the ext. Isn't but maybe 2 miles long if even that.

It's very peaceful there. I don't live but maybe 8 miles away... it's very country where I'm at. When irs my time ... Under one of those big oak trees would be a good resting place. Of course without the whole rope around the neck. This poor guy I hope he gets is name soon. Also this is not a place that has many ( if any) homeless people. In 2006 there weren't to many businesses on hwy 59. There were no shelter s any where close. I still only know of one and it's pretty far away. There is a mental hospital about 5 miles away... through the woods. By road it would be alot farther. I will get the name and address and post it.

Map says about 7 miles away. But if you went walking through woods I would say it's less than that. It was a state run mental hospital back then.

I wonder if this might be a possibility...

Randy Woodward, 42 y/o in 1996 (so 52 in 2006), got into a cab to go to the Salvation Army from a rehab center but never checked in to SA (never arrived?) -- very tall and big man though (6'5", 200lbs)... brown hair, hazel eyes.. he was last seen north of LA in AR (Stuttgart). I've emailed this to the guy listed under 9681's contacts. The height is a foot off but you never know!!

This is map to mental hospital. But it's a straight shot through the woods. I'm probably way off but just trying to think of who this could be. He could have checked himself out of the hospital. They can't hold you against your will unless they think your a danger. Mental patients are very good at faking happiness. View attachment 42351

Randall Whitfield, 5'7", near 200lbs, last seen in Haleyville, AL in 2001, not a whole lot of details except it sounds like he left on his own accord.

Michael Toups, 5'5", worked in the fishing industry in LA.

"Michael was reported missing in 2011; however, his family members have been trying to locate him since 1998. Last information on his possible whereabouts was in 2005, in Cameron, LA and he was possibly working in the fishing industry."

Okay so I found this abou RW:

Randall Harold Whitfield was 39 years old in 2001 when he disappeared from his Haleyville, Alabama, home. On December 8, Randy spoke with his brother, mentioning he was delivering a vehicle to Russellville. According to a friend, Randy delivered the vehicle on December 10th, returned to his home on Winston County Road 478, and has not been seen since. When family searched his home three weeks later, they found the door to his trailer unlocked, rice on the stove, and Randy’s dog who had been left to forage for food.
Randy’s truck was later found in the possession of the friend who had last seen him. The friend was arrested and prosecuted for First Degree Theft. Cadaver dogs found a location where Randy’s body may have been disposed of, but a minor search turned up nothing.
While Randy Whitfield’s disappearance is important in itself, he went missing two days before Elmer and Joette Thrasher were murdered in their home located between Haleyville and Double Springs. Was Randy another victim of the mysterious killer(s), or was he in some way connected to the crime? Randy’s friends and family feel that he somehow learned of the plans to kill the couple and was also done away with. Searches in Mississippi and near Russellville have turned up no sign of Whitfield’s remains. A briefcase belonging to the Thrasher family was later found on a rural road in Franklin County.
At the time of his disappearance, Randy Whitfield, sometimes called “Red,” weighed 196 pounds and stood 5′ 9″ tall. He has red hair and green eyes. Anyone with information concerning Randall Harold Whitfield should call the Haleyville Police Department at (205) 486-5201.

Michael doesn't look like his face would get that squishy look even without teeth. But otherwise he seems to fit.

Was this John Doe identified as Toups? Toups is listed as missing on sites (including NAMUS) still and there is nothing I am seeing in this thread that he was identified as the John Doe.

I see on DoeNetwork that this guy was ID'ed, but nothing about it being Michael Toups.

Toups is still listed on NamUS/findthemissing. They nearly always take profiles down if they've been found or ID'ed. Like, immediately and with no mention of who they wound up being (if a UID) or what happened to them (if they were missing).

Is their any proof of any kind that this fellow was indeed Michael Toups? Anywhere? I couldn't find anything.
