Any verified sources on the log? The original tweeter of this info...what entity is he with?

See this has been answered. I was off to FB to find out but got sidetracked by some lil girl chewing me out for posting the update that it was a log on KSMB's status. Then I forgot why I went there in the first place!

I'll just betcha the Lafayette Consolidated Government CAO is very happy that he had to drive that far at this time of night for a log. OMG

Man, it's got to be the boat launch canal ot the east. Old discussion, I know, but it's pretty hard to stop on the Whiskey Bay bridge and dump a body and bike without having a car come upon you. You would almost have to spend your whole time on the drive out there trying to maximize the distance between you and the car behind you to give you a cushion to stop.

But then the bike supposedly is placed under the Basin bridge - not the Whiskey Bay, yet is found in water. I'm telling ya, if that bike was PLACED, then those perps had a boat. There's no way to place it there without a boat. Now you could DROP the bike from the Basin bridge. I truly don't think the bike was dropped from the Whiskey Bay bridge, because this had to have been done at night, and at night, what are the chances that they drop the bike at the perfect spot so it ends up only partially submerged?

I think they're going to find that you had two perps who jumped out. One tossed the bike over the right side (shallow side) of the Basin bridge, while the other dragged her to the left (deep) side between the twin spans. They had to act fast, so I bet the passenger screwed up and threw the bike over the right side not realizing how shallow it is there.

On the other hand, if they stopped and did it at once, you'd think that bike and body would be close, and would have been found.

She still may not be there.

Well, it will be interesting to see IF they are back out there tomorrow.

I believe they probably did find a log, but I would be surprised if there isn't something more to tonight's search than that. :moo:

I agree. Just saw Mike Shingleton's tweet about finding a log, but I didn't get the impression at all he was implying they found a log INSTEAD of "crucial evidence."

Seems instead like a tidbit of info to keep readers reading. :/

posting mish-mash arguments now.....

I still wonder why they didn't hide the bike better?

I'm not sure if her family is there at the search site, but I would assume LE would tell the family if a body was found, before the released it to the news.

I know in most cases, they say a body has been found but they don't release the victim's name pending family notification, but this is different. Everybody knows if a body is in there, it's probably Mickey's :/ I'm sure if that is the case, LE wants to tell them before they hear it on the news.

Can't help but think they had good reason to be back out there searching again. After finding the bike, they said they were done searching Whiskey Bay. Then, back out today for most of the day.
I understand finding the log and using sonar to rule it out as potential evidence, but the log couldn't have been something that was just spotted by someone if sonar was needed to identify. LE must have some sort of lead or info to have even gone back out after they said they were through there.

I'll answer my own question. The bike wasn't hid better because the perp was slick at abducting people but ignant about whether there was deep water under the Basin Bridge and just chucked it.

After the officials arrived and an unmarked van arrived, they announce it's a log. OK, maybe it is. Or maybe the officials arrived to consult with the LE at the scene about how to proceed, and it was decided to announce that it was all a "false alarm" so that they can contact family members before news breaks.

Chicken I'm pretty sure I heard the girl on Klfy say it was to the east of the exit where the boat launch starts...so that's the canal correct?

"... sonar image seen today, turned out to be some sort of wooden item, possibly a log of some sort. No evidence was found relating to the Mickey Shunick Case tonight."

That makes it seem like "instead" but yeah, I don't see how they could have gotten all their resources ready without knowing more definitely that they had something serious. And they still might!

Yeah. If you heard it then it confirms what I'm thinking. They either threw the evidence over the side of the Basin Bridge, east of the exit, or had a boat.

I was in a way hoping Mickey had been found...nearly all of the cases I've followed here from the start still have missing victims; Kyron, both Hailey and Haleigh, Katelyn, Lauren, Sierra, Holly, Ayla, Aliayah, Lisa, Joshua, good grief, the list goes on.

I was also hoping she'd be found! I feel so sorry for her family. I also have followed many cases like you. She reminds me of Natalee Holloway :(

No kidding. It's not like there's one, lone log in the water. What was it about this particular log that stood out? :waitasec:

Would the Basin Bridge be easier and safer to stop on at night? Place to pull over?

Well, what not one single reporter, this ENTIRE time has yet told us, is which side of the exit area they are searching - west or east. Fantastically bad reporting that just keeps chanting, "Whiskey Bay, Whiskey Bay" You have two entirely different water situations on each side of that exit - the deep pilot channel to the west, and the shallow boat launch canal to the east.

But I've been listening hard for days. Maybe there's a news blackout on that info.

my friend who was driving on the basin bridge around 10:30 said all the lights were by the pilot channel.

I see. Thanks for sharing that. I thought (errantly) that the BR station was the only one reporting that, and via Twitter.

Wow. If all that resulted in nothing more than a log, I'm thinking this search today in particular may go down in the books as one of the most expensive mistakes in Louisiana investigative history. And I mean that respectfully and snark-free!
