Volunteer searches for Mickey Schunick are back in full swing (katc.com, updated 6:23 p.m. CDT 05/31)

the rest at link above

Not suprising only 8 groups' worth showed up. I think people felt like there was no need. I fully expected a major annoucement when I woke up, with them still out at WB last night when I went to bed. I bet a lot of other people were thinking the same :( If they are ready to get back out full force, then let's go. She has to be somewhere!!

eta: Some of the volunteers are taking off work to search and can't afford to do that indefinitely. Some are tired. Some hadn't taken a single day off until yesterday when they had to. And I think that it's only natural that the number of volunteers will decrease with each passing day. But there is still a strong network and hopefully it will find Mickey soon!

Sleuthers, can we utilize our talents to nail down the year of the z71? Perhaps there are clues here for us in the photo. It cannot be a 2011 or newer because the body isn't square enough IMO. Also, take a look at the height of the tailights, there seems to be a nuance in the newer Chevy Silverados. It might take a little math and concentration, but it seems like it would be a productive for this thread.

There's been a large amount of information that is circulating between friends/husbands/wives/cousins, etc (which accounts for much of the area) ...precise details available from two or more sources that implies legitimacy, oftentimes with a reference to having gotten it on the QT from someone in LE or someone who knows someone in LE ...but nothing official released to corroborate one way or the other. Everyone (rhetorical use of 'everyone') knows it's out there but no one is confirming ....I think this is why Lafayette is so on edge right now.

I've lived in Lafayette my whole life and 10 minutes south. I've grown up swimming in the same bayous and rivers with alligators and never paid them no mind. We used to hydraslide and waterski right next to them, and then fall off 10 seconds later and never get nervous. We would just wait for the boat to come back. I've also been out at night on the water catching frogs and hunting right next to coullee's, river, and the Atchafalaya Basin.

With that being said, I believe I am prone to thinking that our wildlife is no different than people who live in the desert seeing poisoness snakes. You get used to them.

So, my point is, I may have overlooked a theory because of this.

If this was indeed an accident and someone hit her, which I don't know how hard you would have to hit someone to dislodge the tire and such, but if they did and this turned into a tragic accident. If they picked her and the bike up, drove to Whiskey Bay, and left the bike and the body.

I have no idea what our wildlife is possible of at night with a body.

I'm scared to even think about it. But it could be possible and the reason we haven't found her.

I really hope most of what we are thinking is not the truth, and we will find her alive.

BRING MICKEY HOME!!!

With the bike being so far away, is it being considered that she is really local, in town someplace? That doesn't seem believable to me, but I know it all has to be searched...

How are we back on the truck again? :floorlaugh:

Really, a possible answer to why the driver hasn't come forward is that, as people have said, they're out of town, or not a local, etc. I drive a pretty common vehicle as well, and I can tell you that if it was plastered all over the news of where I went last weekend asking for information about me, they wouldn't be getting it, because I have no idea and I wasn't visiting with anyone who would be like, "Hey...you drive a ____, were you on X street around Y time?" Perhaps I should go check the news for that place! :innocent:

That's my usual wishful thinking though. In this case, I honestly don't think that's the answer.

Is there activity at Whiskey Bay? I saw comments about frozen cam looking east and same here, but noticed there were at least two vehicles parked near the water. Thanks

Hello All :seeya:

I think they are parked maybe to preserve the location until they no longer need it. Does that make a s sense?

:lurk:

Reporter from KATC told me LE denied each part of the rumors out there. I know that doesn't prove or disprove anything, just sharing info.

Let me elaborate. Say she Kept straight and the other truck thought it easier to cut through the neighborhood, but got turned around and headed back toward st Landry. There is a weird intersection at st Thomas and st Patrick where it's hard to see and traffic comes from different directions. Say he plowed through the yield sign and clipped her there? Hypothesizing. I'm just trying to wrap my brain around this

This was discussed in the last thread. User ACI, apparently a PI, stated he confirmed with the owner of the camera at 215 St. Landry that the camera is a steady film. That said, police have stated she was last seen on the camera across from the Circle K.

Based on this, we have concluded she must have cut right through the LCG lot or left.

The local searches are actually for ANY clues such as her belongings that may have been left behind. And not all searches are local either. Places outside of Lafayette are being looked at as well.

I thought I remembered something about the steady movie film. Thanks! These threads are making my head spin!

Is there an actual APB for all white Z71's? I mean, we don't know for sure it has Louisiana plates. LE may know but they haven't said that. Or have they, and I missed it? Do we know?

Since police are asking the public for help, I have to assume that there is also an APB - that was most likely sent out as soon as soon as they realized it was a Z71. It is true that we do not know for sure if it has Louisiana plates, but it may be mentioned as a possible addition for other State Patrols to investigate. Just a thought.

I still remember my dad being asked to come in to the local PD for a voluntary DNA swab by the task force for DTL. It was very close to the end before DTL was finally caught but LE pulled vehicle registration for hundreds of males who were in the age range (and I'm sure other criteria- my dad happens to work in Baton Rouge and travels over DTL dumping spot daily). My dad did give a sample to help the police. Anyway... I'm wondering if something similar could be done for the registered z71 owners in Lafayette?

** ETA: I realize it's not very realistic to do so. Such a large task. So back to hoping someone does the right thing and comes forward.

We can only hope LE has at least a partial read on the plate. It's amazing how many white Chevy z71's are in our area. Not just Lafayette, but all of south Louisiana. Praying for some answers for the family.

I understand but rumors do tend to fly in these high profile cases. A good example is when Holly Bobo went missing in TN last year. There were persistent rumors that she had been found alive and was taken to Vanderbilt hospital. A local talk radio blowhard even went on the air and the web and claimed it was true. Except it wasn't and Holly has still not been found. These rumors aren't fair to the family and loved ones of the missing.

The fact that LE still hasn't narrowed down what type of Z71 it is makes me think they are probably still very much in the dark about who is responsible.

Where are all these people who have LE friends? Ask if there is an APB on all white Z71's. My dad is retired but I know he can call and find out. I haven't seen any of them pulled over but I haven't really been looking either. I was looking for that Olds 98!

If anyone wants to take a break from WS, tonite at 7 central time .. on the A&E channel is an episode of The First 48, called "Missing". For those that haven't seen it, Amber Elkins went missing .. her car was found. EquuSearch got involved 3 or 4 days later and after 3 days of searching, TES members found her body about 20 miles away under a bridge. I still hope Mickey is found alive somehow.

I am watching.
