And theyre not lying either. I attempted to ping her phone very early in the investigation. No dice. Came back as a fail. So just in case there were any doubts...there ya' go

If the battery was out of the phone or damaged this would be true.

If it was damaged/destroyed you would not be able to ping it otherwise you should be able to.

Her phone was most likely on when she left Brettly's house, so couldn't they have pinged/tracked it all the way until she disappeared (assuming that's when her phone was cut off)?
Sorry to keep wondering about the phone. I'm just trying to understand why they couldn't track it even though it wasnt a smart phone. Non smart phones can't be tracked at all? Even when on?

This also makes me think, (and this is just my opinion), that this was planned by someone she knew somewhat. Not very well. They knew she didn't have a smartphone so they knew she eoukd not be able to get tracked (also the fact that he/she knew to cut her phone off right away) and also how they knew where to abduct her without getting caught on camera. I believe that ditching her bike where they did was to throw everyone off.

Unless it was someone she knew that none of her friends/fam had met or knew about, I am suspect of this line of thinking because they would stick out like a sore thumb if they had a white Z71 and had not spoken to police yet. Surely a mutual friend or her sis would know this person too and be able to tell LE so they could talk to them. Also that the truck has a distinct gas cap would be an even better indicator. JMO

IIRC, cell phones are always pinging, even when turned off, so that when you receive a call or a text, the communication knows where to find your phone. It's my understanding that you have to remove the battery to cease the pings. When I go to church, I turn my phone off. After church, when I turn my phone back on, I oftentimes have new text messages or voice mails, received during church. I believe that this necessitates pinging. I could have the terminology wrong, but you know what I mean.

I could be wrong, so I hope that this does not derail the thread.

As a generalization, when a perp murders a complete stranger, the body is found in a relatively short period of time since the perp often takes no special care in the disposal of the body.

It is often when the perp is an acquaintance or family member that the body is hidden. In Mickey's case, I am leaning toward acquaintance.

Returning to theory that evidence was dumped in basin by boat

Via Google Earth street view:

Stallion Construction in Butte La Rose. Large industrial building at the end of Herman Dupuis Rd. It sits on the water's edge. Building faces road with large paved lot in front surrounded by a fence with electric security gates.

At the end of Herman Dupius in front of Stallion is a boat dock at with an adjacent parking lot for boat trailers.

Given the presence of security gates, there could also be security camera in the front of the Stallion building. If so, our perp could have been caught on video.

The 216 St. Landry cam is continuous "real time" recording. As for LCG I dont know. I plan to find out Monday when I go view the footage from Sterling Life Insurance. But if theyre anything like the rest of the city owned cams theyve got a pretty laggy framerate with a few second gaps. Ill confirm this Monday. Ive been more concerned with video further along her route, so I never bothered with LCG cams

Yes, it's a simple trip to the switch. Of course, depending on the name on the account a police warrant would need to be secured before Verizon would release. ( I worked for Verizon in management for years, I handled this type of thing frequently.) As for pinging the phone, as long as it's on, it can be pinged.

Non-smartphones arent constantly transmitting data and signals to towers like smart phones do. They basically only do when receiving/sending a call, text message or whatever or if pinged. Thats why those are a **** to trace....and why someone doesnt have a smart phone in 2012 is beyond me *shrugs*

Correct. Its a very small black infrared camera (for nightvision) mounted in the front. Took me a while to find it too. Its pretty discreet

No cell phones CAN be tracked contrary to popular belief but the phone must have the battery in it and it cannot be damaged. They do NOT have to be smart phones.
