in the advertiser article, the PI says he thinks she's still alive, so that's positive and snuffs out the drunk driver rumors

"I have no guarantee, but personally, I think she is still alive. That's really all I can say. We're going to continue until we find Mickey."

I imagine he feels it's part of his job to look for a live MS - he is working for the family and trying to stay positive. I would be surprised (but very happy) if she is found alive.

I thought so too but if she was THAT cautious whereis her helmet?

(It's the mom in me...)

It's uncommon (around here anyway) to see young hipstery cyclists like Mickey wearing helmets. I live in an area with a lot of bicyclists and rarely see anyone who isn't riding for exercise who is wearing one.

Today when I was walking home from work I saw a guy about my age riding in the extremely busy rush hour traffic with no helmet. The road is six lanes and turns into a state highway only a mile or so away - it's a major conduit for all the people who work in one town and live in another. There are bike lanes, but cars have to cut through them to reach the turning lane, and people have been killed this way.

In trying to conjure up other scenarios of how to get MS off her bike, I got to thinking abut rope. Could one literally lasso a person on a bike? Sure they could, right? I am NOT saying I think this happened! I am just wondering if it is even a plausible scenario. Perp could be on foot or in a vehicle in that scenario. Then, use the same rope to tie up the victim?
Probably just a crazy idea...right?
Ya know we are close to rodeo country when a rope is mentioned to lassoo..lol.

If I can add one more reason on why MS is not under, over or inside the truck...There would have to be some noticeable forward movement. In this instance, from the point where MS was seen to the area being discussed, there is negligible to no forward movement from what I've seen.

Just to clear up the quote - I had to edit to say MS was NOT a novice biker. She was quite skilled.

Really sad when we have 22 threads and the missing person is not home yet. Thinking of Mickey tonight.....

You're not alone in having developed these habits during the DTL days. I did too, as well as configuring my keyless entry on my car to only open the drivers door, locking my doors immediately when inside my house and car, always having my keys out, never being alone in a secluded place (night or day), etc., the list goes on and on. But I am glad I'm not the only one it stuck with. We need to keep these habits all the time, whether a crime spree is going on or not. I'm a firm believer of living your life alert and aware, but not in fear, in believing in the goodness of people but protecting yourself from those few bad eggs who take, advantage of that belief. Keep up your good habits!

Ladies, I understand how you feel. I lived in fear for along time because of a crime committed against me. I no longer do that but I am cautious. Reading on here or watching tv about crime cases sometimes will just make it worse depending on what you may be going through.

I finally came to the decision that I wasn't going to allow fear to control my life. I wasn't going to allow the perp to have that control over me. I decided I was going to take control back over the perp.

I know it doesn't help much to say this, but the odds of being the victim of a serial killer are extremely low compared to dying in a car accident along with many other things.

the only people i ever see wearing a helmet while biking in LA are those hard core cyclist in skin tight biking suits that probably biked all the way over here from San Francisco or something

Please lol, I've now asked this three times, could SOMEONE post a little about why they are so excited. Thanks

"He declined to talk specifically about any particular leads or any direction his investigation may be headed, citing the ongoing nature of the case.

Asked whether he believes Shunick is still alive, Abdella said he remains undecided."

I used to live in LA as well and noticed the same thing. I couldn't believe that anyone actually rode on the streets there. The entire time that I lived down there I worried about seeing someone get hit.

I know my kids are19 and 20! The shoes she was wearing, no helmet, late at night... typical!

I just can't see cadavar dogs being brought in for nothing. I know they are wonderful trackers, but honestly I can't see how she could still be alive. Hope I'm wrong.

who knew, you can say who knows again. that's for sure! who knows?

goodnight all. hopefully tomorrow's search with TES etc. will bring us closer to Mickey.

"We've had some things come up in the last two or three days that we are pursuing and that I'm excited about," said Abdella

If there is a true psychopath involved in this case, which IMO is entirely possible, his cause for optimism may stem from a hope that this person is holding her.
