Everyone thought I was weird back when I was in high school because I got the cartilage pierced in my ear. I have one tattoo and am not against more, but I am of the belief that tattoos are for you (not everyone else) and should be easily covered. Piercings don't generally bother me except when people stretch their ears ridiculously large and then work at a restaurant. Can you say unsanitary?

Dermals and septum etc piercings have been around along time. I knew of quite a few friends who had them when we were growing up some 12-15 years ago and this was in rural Canada. And justa side note that a reputable piercer with needles is far far safer than a mall piercing with a gun.

Most state health departments do not allow facial piercings or anything other than one earring in each ear. I think the issue is with them falling into the food, however unlikely that may be. But, I know that when I wear earrings, I have an allergic reaction sometimes and there are some pretty gross bodily fluids. My boyfriend has his ears "gauged" and the same happens to him sometimes, only it is a lot more fluids because the holes are larger.
