Wanna say thanks to Chicken Fried. Now I know what it looks like under there.

I think that would have been quite a chore, someone alone putting that bike there at night, even if he/she were familiar with the area.

I suppose if the perp had help with someone holding a light, it may have been easier. jmo

There was no moon when she disappeared. So I think yes, they would have had to have a headlight or an accomplice with a light. As far as carrying the bike down that trail, I could have done it if I knew the area, hip replacement and all. The trail's not that bad and I walked it yesterday.

I saw a crime show once where some Crips or some other group of wannabe gangsters were killing random strangers just so they could get those ridiculous teardrops tattooed under their eyes.

Since it was a young lady out at night, there are so many different possible motives. The list is seemingly endless.

I live a couple hours south of chicago and there isn't a night I turn on the news that there isn't gang violence. One thing about gangs---they DO NOT clean up their mess. They would of killed her and left her there and went about their business :-/ Sad, but true.

Rain won't get rid of blood. Trace evidence of it will remain there for weeks. So if there are any chemists in here who want to mix up a 100 gallon batch of luminol, we could drive around coating the street in it until we find something :D

Thanks ACI - Just want to clarify somethings, and benefit from your PI knowledge and experience. Following a rain, if trace evidence would remain then police could conduct luminol testing outside after 20 or more days to yield results for the presence of blood? This test wouldn't allow for typing or DNA, just positive or negative for blood, right? And can only be conducted once? Secondly, if only trace evidence of blood remain following a thunderstorm, would a layperson (non LE, a friend retracing her path) notice this sort of evidence on the street?

Since police have said that they feel that the condition of Mickey's bike indicated that she was involved in an accident, the likely location for this to have occurred would have been further down (from University/St Landry) her route home that night. Lack of any evidence (blood, her belongings scattered, etc.) along this route adds to the mystery. Trying to account for how an abduction could occur without any blood or possessions being left behind.

Thanks again, it is great to have a PI on the board.

Crime junkie, that article you liked says
The tipsters say that the white pickup truck seen by police on surveillance cameras is likely driven by an older man, and that he has attempted to pick up bicycle riders before, and to offer money for sex, KATC-TV reported.
I've never read this before. Have I missed this or is the reporter confusing what Abdella said and what the girl's mother said on Nancy Grace" re the man who gave her a ride?

I had a beggar on Jefferson 3 weeks ago ask me for $5 at first, then 1/2 hr later ask me for $3. He looked a tad too well fed to be a beggar, & from the tattoos, I could see where he spent more of his money besides food.

Enlighten me. Did he use it for more tattoos?

If someone physically harmed her because of her race or sexual orientation, it would be a hate crime.

So you think someone might have killed her because she was heterosexual....?

But what the P.I. did do is to find two tipsters.

The tipsters say that the white pickup truck seen by police on surveillance cameras is likely driven by an older man, and that he has attempted to pick up bicycle riders before, and to offer money for sex, KATC-TV reported.

The Examiner's link to KATC says nothing about this. Either this reporter has inside info or she is confused.

Interesting perspective by the writer. It hadn't occurred to me that the 2 "tipsters" were women that had been approached by the driver (and possibly a passenger) of a WT. From the wording in one of Abdella's interviews (bbm):
Private Investigator: Strong Lead on Suspects In Mickey Shunick Case
KATC.com
June 7, 2012

'Don't see where the two tipsters were identified as women'.

'Imo, this statement from the KATC article was the most telling:

"They appear to be very credible and they appear to be very knowledgeable," explained Abdella. "

I tend to be very friendly with anyone whether guys or girls. I had a male friend who I got very close to. I thought it was obvious there was nothing between us cuz we never kissed or anything but apparently it wasn't so obvious to him. When I started seeing someone for real he got very angry and weird. Come to find out he had told a few people we were seeing each other. Maybe mickey had other guy friends like BW and one just didn't understand and flipped out.

I've heard a few people state that they believe ATV's (4-wheelers) would not make it down to the bike disposal site. Why?! I have seen the pictures and I still think there would be a way for one to make it down there...somehow.

We have many places, where I live, that look like you would never ride on in a million years, yet those are the most popular places for kids and young adults b/c the "older" folk wouldn't take those chances to get there. Especially w/ the artwork down there, it's obviously a place where kids would hang out (at night most likely b/c they wouldn't have the "cojones" to destroy property during the day in front of people). I don't know---we do stupid stuff here in Illinois and I have been thrown from 4wheelers, dirtbikes, and snowmobiles more than once and mudding is a past-time. You would be surprised at how skilled young drivers really can be...especially when that's all there is to do! We also party anywhere along water's edge...and most places are not accessible by a regular vehicle, but we always found a way in. I used to ride my car down the railroad tracks to get to a certain party spot...you'd be surprised at what the young know about and what the adults have NO CLUE on. I think it's very plausible that someone could of taken her and her bike or just her bike to that area via atv---they have racks on the back, storage, lights, it's easy to kill the motor and lights if a vehicle were coming so they'd never even know you were around. Nothing is Impossible.

Male witnesses that a driver of a white truck tried to "pick up" wouldn't really fit the case, so they have to be female.

As far as credibility is concerned, anyone can appear credible if they're intelligent. It is pretty easy to sound like you know what you're talking about even if you don't.

I'm on MacBook Pro, no problem with blown margins here.

Same here

ETA: Thanks Chicken Fry for the pics! I kind of had an idea what the area looked like, but it's nice to see everything clearly laid out and explained.

I don't see any refererence in the KATC article where the PI mentioned the two tipsters as being attempted to be picked up by the occupant/s of the WT.

Maybe I am missing something here. Guess, I am just chasing rabbits.

I've been in Houston since Thursday, staying right off I-10 and have not seen ANY posters or billboards about Mickey :(

Glad you shared this...if possible increasing the number of flyers that we can distribute to any and all areas that we travel can only help. I stopped for gas in Baton Rouge last week and there was no flyer at that station. The owner said that although he knew about Mickey, he had not received a flyer yet. He placed the flyer that I gave right in front of his cash register -- prime spot for all to see. He was so happy to help.
If you can stop by Blackham Coliseum and pick up some flyers- or gain access to one on-line to print - do so and please take them with you to post.

We don't generally post articles from examiner....there is a reason, as they are often inaccurate and are written by bloggers.

I live in Lake Charles and have yet to see any here. I'd do it myself but I'd be at it alone :/

I agree with your second statement and have
a strong hunch that the tips have nothing to do with the white truck or prior abductions attempts.

They weren't identified. I didn't word my post properly but have since edited it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I see how it could be misleading the way I initially worded it.

Also, just for further clarification...Adbella didn't say who the tipsters were and I was simply stating in my post above that it never occurred TO ME that the tipsters POSSIBLY could have been females that had been approached by a guy in a WT.

I blame Steve Jobs! ;-)

Not Steve's fault. Not mac or pc.

Reducing your picture size does not reduce the quality. 640 is recommended because the forum margins are 680. If you make your picture bigger the whole forum becomes bigger.

Large pictures can be put in the post as an attachment. Keeps everyone happy.

Mod Note: Examiner reporting is sketchy at best, and we generally do not allow linking to it. Thanks.
