One of the things that frustrates and worries me about this case is that there seems to be very little to go on. In most of the cases, there is usually a suspicious cast of characters with ties to the victim or crime. Heck, in this case we don't even have a crime scene - at least, not that we're aware of. All we know is that Mickey and her bike vanished into thin air. How? Where? Why? Who? When? Do we have an answer to one of those questions? :banghead:

Katelyn Markham disappeared sometime during a 6 or so hour time span, apparently from her apartment, never to be seen again. No one saw her leave her home, no crime scene, etc...and 10 months later, LE doesn't even know if she left on purpose or what, nothing can be ruled out.

Honestly, I am starting to almost believe in the theory of "spontaneous combustion."

At 10:59 am on 5/9 a post is made on Bike Lafayette's FB page saying the bike was missing. Updates are added listing distinguishing features and asking for people to keep an eye out for it. At 2:34 that day a FB post is made by LE on that page saying they'd found it with a number to call to claim it.

It had been found hidden behind some bushes in the cemetery on St John St that is on MS's path the night she disappeared.

Maybe searches wouldnt be ending if they would share some 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 information with the people working night and day to find Mickey. JMO

I agree with you.

I thought the bike (BW's) was turned into a security guard, who turned it over to police...

  • #125
I remember reading that his bike had been stolen, but not that it was by a security guard.

A.C.I. were you able to listen to the old scanner feeds?

yes. I would need to know what day though and around what time. A lot goes on in Lafayette

Well that's really odd, and two weeks before Mickey went missing? There could be something to this, a connection.

I guess I'm the only one not seeing the humor and I have a great sense of humor.

I was making fun of the way LE presents info to us.

What does this mean..."may or may not be a missing person"?

I'd like to that to be more defined also. Could be things that may belong to MS that were lost before she was missing?? We can only hope she is not missing and that she is ok!

I don't see anything on the "Find Mickie" page about searches ending soon...? And I could not open that article linked above...

I have been following a few missing people at Websleuths for a year now and Mickey Shunick's case prompted me to join. I have to say the similarity of Mickey to Lauren Spierer was startling, they have so many things in common. I know it has been said that the two cases are not related but it makes me wonder, even so.

I have a daughter who is 30 years old but I still worry about her when she's out and I still call her almost everyday. Things have changed so much since I was young, my grandchildren will never know what it's like to run outside and play and be care free. When I was young we had to be close enough to hear my mom's whistle. Now our children need to be in sight of someone, even if it means using a buddy system or going in groups. (Grown-ups should do this too.)

Even as an adult, I no longer walk or ride alone at night and I don't go to isolated places during the day. I miss my solitary nature walks, but it's not worth the risk to go alone. It's not fair but it does seem to be the "new normal" more like the "new ab-normal".

Many people also seem to believe in the notion that bad things don't happen to good people, the idea that if we are a good person that our goodness will protect us. I wish it were so, but it is not. We must teach ourselves and our family members to think in a different way now. We don't want to always assume the worst obviously, but we can no longer just assume that we are safe, either. Vigilance, awareness of ones surroundings, don't travel alone at night, be somewhat guarded when you encounter strangers etc.

Maybe these bars could put up posters to remind people, especially young women, to be careful walking or traveling alone at night.
:please:

It seems to me this case has many more similarities to Morgan Harrington's case than Lauren's (I have my own ideas - as do many WSers - about who is probably responsible there). Morgan's case seems much more like Mickey's- out late at night alone, belongings found later in a seemingly disconnected way from body or the young woman in an attempt to divert from the woman's location (Morgan's t-shirt, Mickey's bike), etc. That said, I don't think Morgan's case is connected to Mickey's, either, though. Unless that perp made a serious move in the past couple of years. Morgan was also probably very much under the influence of drugs/alcohol and we know Mickey was sober.

Both cases scare me, but Morgan's (the t-shirt, the curtsy on the bridge, etc) down right gives me the chills. Holly Bobo's case as well. I think we can also compare Holly's cell being found later with Mickey's bike and Morgan's t-shirt. I guess we can see similarities among anything if we want, though.

I've found it strange people who keep comparing Mickey's disappearance with Lauren's and Holly's don't include Morgan Harrington....

Ok, he was being sarcastic...

That bike theft incident was kind of strange to me. Why would someone bother stealing the bike and then turn around and ditch it two blocks from where they stole it??? What was the point of stealing it in the first place lol??

LE is going to lose the publics interest in this case and thats THEIR fault. People are more than willing to help, but we need guidance on what they are looking for.

Add to that all of the turmoil within the department. Fear focus on this case will be lost!

Yeah...I just pulled up the guy that found it (works @ Lafayette Parish Sheriff's)...well actually he said one of his "employees" found it behind bushes.

You find this odd at all?

It's really easy to stalk people nowadays with constant Twitter updates and Facebook statuses. And now, people are checking in everywhere they go and the location is linked to their updates. No thank you!

This might seem crazy, but if you look at the white truck on googlemaps at 1290 West Congress Street, Lafayette, Louisiana, (stopped at intersection) it looks to me just like the still unidentified truck.

So no taunting plot?

Ok, he was being sarcastic...

I suppose I should've put a "sarcasm" disclaimer like my post today that many people took serious when I named a Chevy Sierra as a suspect that was considered armed and dangerous.

I apologize
