My opinions only, no facts here:

Over the many decades I have spent working in the wilderness, I always carry a firearm, preferably a twelve-gauge shotgun with four to five magnum slugs. A formidable weapon, even against a very big bear. But you MUST have the weapon in your hand at all times and instantly available 24-7 in the wilderness. If you put the gun in your back back, then it is just deadweight and of no security value. When you sleep at night in your pup-tent in the Arctic, your weapon is draped across your chest, not at your side.

I stood down an endless array of 'griz' and black bears over +30 years without ever needing to use my gun. But when my day ultimately came, I had about zero seconds and only time for one shot at point-blank range. Since I am still here, my philosophy must be sound. I was resting on the ground in the middle of nowhere without any sense of impending danger, leaning against my backpack and tuning out, but my right index finger was firmly on the trigger of my shotgun.

If you carry mace in a dangerous city, then keep it in or VERY NEAR your hand at all times or do not carry it at all. You must remain vigilant for the city 'bears' that could attack from any side at any time (I won't bore you with the rules of cougar country, where you could also be attacked from above!).

Anyway, I am still working on enhancing the Circle-K images. I intend to post a provocative enhancement of the driver of the white truck. But keep in mind that the white truck is NOT SHOWN to be involved in the disappearance of MS. So, I might be enhancing the pic of some guy going to pick up a six-pack of beer! Heck, with that possibility, I might be enhancing myself!

Strangely, I have never carried a weapon in the city, even though the city is becoming equally dangerous as the northern Barren Grounds when the bears are abundant. But, I am still holding out for now.

She ate at BW's...after returning from Taco Bell the timeline doesn't add up... At least not for me "medically" speaking...

Unless something just didn't agree with her because she was already feeling ill...
who knows!

Drugs will take at least an hour or so to hit her. She may have been given something right before she left Artmosphere. It may have made her nauseous or light headed and she asked to leave and get Taco Bell.

DTL didn't abduct/kill any kids that we are aware. But yes, same time frame.

Well I thought ACI was talking about a girl around Mickey's age. So not a child, but the same age as at least the one victim of DTL that was here in Scott.

I want to say it is way more likely to be killed or hurt by a car accidentally hitting you than to be abducted. I would have to look up exact stats, but I get why bicyclists and runners light themselves up when running or biking at night. Just on my university campus we have had multiple cases this year of a car accidentally hitting someone who didn't have any reflectors or lights on them. I guess sometimes you prepare for the statistically more likely thing to happen to you and logically you want people to see where you are when you are biking/running on roads at night. Of course, it is unfortunate that in this case it may have made her a target :(

I would normally agree with you on your opening sentence, but did you go down the entire bike route on googlemaps? I'd want to be as invisible as possible--or don't go there at all!

....just kind of meaning a glaring "here I am"....can't you see me coming from a mile away kind of light. The lights were on her bike....one large one on the front and a lot of reflectives.
In other words, it was not subtle, not stealth-like....it was an awkward announcement of where she was. Some might think it is a good thing, I don't agree at all.

capice?

Exactly. This is why I would not ride in that area at night without Betsy strapped to my back. Betsy is my shotgun.

Our police department did a show on self defense when DTL was on the loose and gave suggestions on different points of self defense. One of the recommendations was that ladies who had acrylic nails should keep them up to date and don't hesitate to take an eye out cause they are perfect for this!

I have beautiful natural nails. During BTL I had fake ones. I WAS ready. LOL

One thing that puzzles me is the mindset that Lafayette is "safe". When I was 19, I worked at a quick-e-mart near the Settlement at night. My Stepdad, a lifelong resident of Lafayette/Duson gave me a Lewisville Slugger to keep in the car. He told me if anyone came near me to "knock their lights out". I never had to use it, but it taught me that the world is not all fairy tales and bunnies.. and yes, a petite blonde is always a target. -- That's why I am now a redhead. LOL.

Been lurking, not much to say. Seems like you guys have covered every possible scenario of that night. Thanks again to all of you who cared enough to devote time to try to piece Mickey's story together. I keep hoping for good news, new evidence, any news at all...refreshing local sites, waiting to hear something about our Mickey, wanting an answer. Every mailbox and tree in her neighborhood has a big yellow bow tied around it. But people have moved on to "newer" news stories. People can't just forget about her, about what happened to her. How can life just go on after something like this happens?

(snipped)

No matter the outcome, even if she comes back alive, I know I'll always remember Mickey - as well as other missing people from the past. There are some cases that just touch you, and you never forget them.

I know it doesn't really help in the present situation, but she'll never be forgotten, no matter what.

I wasn't sure what "The Settlement" was exactly so I google mapped it. Across from Target? Is that supposed to be a dangerous area? Sure I know any area can be, but is it known for that?

I feel that Lafayette is safer than a lot of other places! I have been out at all times of the night when I was younger, and never run into any trouble. Of course I make it a point to stay out of places like Ille des Cannes and the Pontalba area...although I have even been there after dark on occasion and still, uneventful.

ACI you indicated that whatever happened to the POI's family member happened about 10 years ago. Wasn't that about the same time that DTL was on the loose?

Its unrelated and not in that exact timeframe

Back in the 80's the Settlement was Lafayette's River Ranch-- or whatever the fancy neighborhood is called now. I do not live in Lafayette and have not since 1990.

I think that this case will change the way a lot of people feel about their safety in Lafayette. I don't live there anymore, but it will always be dear to my heart and maybe one day I will move back there. When I did live there, I was fearless about going anywhere at anytime. I lived on campus for a while and we had a rule within our group of friends that nobody walked alone at night. After college, I lived in Illes des Canne for a while, but it was relatively new and was very safe.
Lafayette will always be a great community, but I think people will be more aware of what goes on around them than they were pre MS disapearance.

Oh okay, I was just a baby then. I have never lived in any of those subdivisions so I only know the names of the ones I pass regularly.

bbm. Yes, definitely. I hope so! We all need to be aware. During DTL I was at UL, and we were on edge even before there was a victim in Scott. And then after her, it was so close to home and there was a panic but I think it quickly faded, esp. after he was captured. I was still in that young and invincible phase maybe. Now that I'm a bit older and a bit wiser, and a mother, MS's experience will definitely stick with me.

This isn't my first rodeo. Do you think I would say exactly when he lost his child? Or the exact age of his child? Did I say what state it occurred in? And are the vague circumstances of the disappearance I gave completely accurate or any of the other details for that matter? I said what needed to be said to get the answer I was looking for.

Lots of people have lost children in their twenties in the last 20 years or so.

A.C.I., I hope you have your answer, but if not, please contact any experienced missing/murdered person advocate's forum or attend a missing person conference. The majority of folks attending are families of the involuntary fraternity of the new life's normal of the M & M, and SAR members.

The answer to your questions, of his behavior will come very easy for them.

Just poking my head in for new news. These beaten dead horses are feeling a little offensive to me. My own fault... having a down day.

I'm trying to convince myself that LE actually has something that will bring Mickey home.

Lafayette is not a safe area from everything I saw on my re-enacted MS bike route via googlemaps. Not even close.....

Has L.E. warned it's citizens publicly?

I did get some very useful information, thanks
