My opinions only, no facts here:

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I have been enhancing digital images for ten years, a necessity for my scientific papers. It is shop talk to me that enlarging an image and increasing the pixel density is putting your faith upon the people who wrote the software. That is why I SELECT MY SOFTWARE CAREFULLY. I have been involved with computers for 36 years.

I use strong, absurd, and even sublime disclaimers (including the word "fantasy") to prevent readers from misinterpreting my uploaded images from the originals. In spite of that, a few have accidentally mistaken my enhanced images for originals (and now I hear that even the so-called 'original' images may have been altered before being released to the public!).

Anyway, to make a long story short, I was going to present a close-up enhancement of the driver's face in the 1st white truck (Circle-K) image, but you have successfully convinced me not to. Trying to ID the driver or the vehicle is probably impeding the discussion here.

Hey there,

I wouldn't put it like that.
I had an issue with your Photoshop that had black pixels - a "driver's head," in place of white pixels.

Could you explain to me whether you actually painted in black pixels with a brush, or did you use some kind of filter that turned white pixels to black? I'm a veteran Photoshop user, and it threw me to see a black mass where before there was white. Yes, I criticized it heavily - my main criticism being that there wasn't a large label right on the photo. Someone apparently cropped your image without your permission, and so others began taking your creation as the real photo - and it made the discussion become wildly OT.

So I hope you won't be bitter about it, but will realize that on a blog people can alter your posted images and then it has a domino effect. It happened to me too - someone improperly cropped one of my "bike-drop" images and steered the discussion wrong.

I see in your latest images you explained more of what you did, and I appreciated that.
:)

I am sorry to see that some folks have been taking logical discussion and debate of theories/images as a personal attack, and complaining. Yes, I saw some people get more personal than others, and the WS TOS says to address/criticize the post, not the poster. There is no room to be criticizing posters who are here to add ideas to help find Mickey. But I for one, think it's very valuable for people to propose theories, and then for others to use logic to pick them apart or support them. That constant critical process serves the purpose of identifying valid possibilities and discarding others by finding the logical flaws. So I hope people will continue to propose theories, and also that they will grow a little bit thicker skin. If people are free to propose theories but others aren't free to evaluate them, and that constructive criticism isn't allowed to happen, then I think that WS loses a degree of effectiveness, and then just becomes a place to voice opinions but not have them evaluated. I think that that critical evaluation results in theories and valid avenues to pursue in finding Mickey.

In summary, folks please continue to submit ideas, and don't take it personally when others dispute them with logical criticism. Logical criticism is constructive. It's not about shielding one's ego; it's about vetting ideas to find Mickey!

I have to point out to you that your choice of the word "hostages" is akin to calling firemen hostages who leave the Thanksgiving table to respond to a five-alarm fire with people trapped on the upper floors.

I can understand how you're thinking, based upon that a lot of people don't understand something about drilling oil. In oil drilling, emergency situations come up more often than you know. I have several cousins offshore at the moment, including a rig manager, my uncle worked his whole career for Texaco, my grandfather worked his whole career for Texaco, and my great-grandfather was present at Spindletop in Sour Lake, Texas, when the first huge strike was made in the early 1900s that made Texaco.

Deepwater Horizon blew out due to unmanageable pressure coming from under the ground. What allows you to drive your car, if you drive, is that men and women are working tirelessly, 24/7, to manage incredible pressure from inside the earth's crust, without a Deepwater Horizon happening once a week.

That mammoth pressure has to be managed vigiliantly, 24/7, through a series of valves.

The pressure is not constant. As the drill bit proceeds, core samples are brought up, and examined by geologists such as Mr. Shunick to determine what sort of stratum the bit is getting into. Hitting a different stratum as the bit goes deeper can make the underground pressure change suddenly and violently, and result in a blowout. The earth's underground pressure doesn't respect high-school graduations, weddings or funerals. Mr. Shunick is a specialist - not a roustabout. There aren't as many Mr. Shunicks to go around as your everyday roustabout.

It is part of Mr. Shunick's job to be available to fly out to a rig in a hurry to evaluate a rig whose pressures are changing, so as to prevent a disaster.

If that rig needed him - and if that particular company had only one geologist on call - then Mr. Shunick may well have been needed immediately to look at the samples - to prevent a blowout of the well.

Even had he asked for the day off... the earth doesn't care. That's his job.

I hope that helps you understand better, and also helps you realize why questioning Mr. Shunick's absence at his son's graduation reflects more on his job than on his character or choices.
:)

You said that very well. I would never consider employees of these industries "hostages". In my immediate family I have three oilfield workers, one firefighter, and one police officer. Their schedules may not be ideal, but nobody is forcing them to go. They go because they love their jobs. Being out in severe weather conditions day and night while drilling (or whatever) may not be right for everyone, but it's right for the people that do it. These people come from all walks of life too. Educated, non educated, wealthy families, poor families, criminal history, clean backgrounds. They do it because they want to, not because they are "hostages".

snipped

I am not speaking for Mr N, just explaining what it might be because I did it.
I wanted to highlight the section that showed the what might be someone leaning on the car on Versailles. I had been working with PSP text in my last PSP session, so when I went to highlight that part of the picture, the default color was black. I was ready to save it but then I caught myself because someone might criticize me for saying the perpetrator was African American when that would not have been my intention at all, it was merely to emphasize. So, I changed it to bright white.

Yes, our goal is to find Mickey!

I just have a question about the images that LE released to the public.

It continues to be my belief that LE only wanted help in ID'ing the vehicles and nothing else.

What if LE already blocked out the driver/passenger areas of the truck before releasing the stills? If that is effective in finding Mickey, I'm all for LE doing whatever "enhancements" they want, including deleting parts of the video and blocking out certain areas they want to keep to themselves.

I guess, from the experts on here, I would be more interested in knowing if the driver/passenger areas, and areas by the truck were colored over or blocked out purposefully.

And, if they were, I'm good with that, if it is effective in finding her.

Checking the news and there's nothing new for Mickey, sadly.

How will this case be solved if nothing pans out from the surveillance videos... IMO then, it goes back to checking into cases/reports of other women who were bothered or pestered by someone(s) driving around... also robberies and attempted robberies of women should be locked into.

My hope is that reports before Mickey were not discarded/discounted because nothing serious had previously happened..

Odds favor this attack not being a first time offense.

Those did not look blocked however some programs can make images transparent and they can be filled in w/out being too obvious.

It's my opinion after looking at the truck images that the driver is partially blocked by the window frame of the passenger door. In other words, he/she is too far back to be seen clearly. That is only my opinion. Some of the pictures do show manipulation because they have the dark lines associated with sharpening images and some have fuzzy lines that would not be there, however, I don't think that LE purposely blocked the faces in the truck. They probably never realized there would be people studying the images as closely as they have been studied.

I bolded this sentence, because, ain't it the truth. Many people just don't care, until it happens to them, or the rich and famous are too busy buying their 500th pair of shoes, rather than giving that money to finding the missing. Pathetic, IMO.

I bolded the above sentence. And, that, has always intrigued me. If the driver could sit back far enough not to be ID'd, that would be one cagey driver.

Just spent hours reading/rereading posts. My head is spinning, but also a little clearer.

These are my gut feelings:
Mickey as hit while riding her bike due to the damage of her bike
(bent rim and dislodge tire)
Z71 involved
(traveling same direction-appears also from photo that tailgate is down and a person sitting in bed of truck)
Two(or more) people involved
(seems improbable to me for 1 person to stop the truck get out/get her in the truck-I would assume she was somewhat aware as there was found not to be any debris found-put her in the truck-without her running-and turn around and pickup her bike too)
They are not from Layfayette
(1. Truck if it was owned by someone in town-would have turned up already with all those looking/BUT they are familiar with area due to the location of bike found under Wiskey Bay Bridge/I feel they continued down I10 to neighboring areas)

Things I feel can be looked into(and I am sure the LE has or is)
-Possible charges at buisnesses open possibly between 10-2/bars/restaurants/gas stations/convienient stores for out of town charges/could be hard since this is a college town as I am aware.
-Seems to be an expensive truck with bells and whistles
truck clubs in the area as guys love to brag about their vehicles!!!
trucks for sale-looking to sell or trade to take heat off of them/craigslist/dealers/used auto sales/etc.

Sorry for thinking out loud again! I just wish we had another clue that could be released that could help us narrow in where Mickey is to bring her home!!!!!!!!!!!1

Only one comment regarding the anonymous donors to getting A.C.I. paid to investigate this: Hope none of them is a perp.

megsy said:
That's the nature of the oilfield business. It's just the way it is.

I disagree. Both my father and my stepfather, uncles etc are in the oilfield. <snip>

This is the point I was trying to make about how it may be a difference in location causing this. Like I said previously, I feel that it's the idea that so many people are involved in the oilfield here that it's accepted as the nature, while others may not see it as such. I honestly believe that people are not understanding what chicken.fried and others are trying to say, though -- there are enough oilfield workers here that, in their experience, when they're called, they go, no questions asked. And, in that same experience, the families of these workers understand that and accept it, because it means that that's income coming in, both for that job and for future jobs.

I think we need to drop this line of questioning, though. It's established that Mr Shunick went offshore on an emergency call, missing his son's graduation. Anything else, to me, seems like sleuthing, and I really don't think that's acceptable according to WS TOS; I'm not comfortable following that line of questioning and I imagine I'm not alone in that.

Hey, thanks there for that. At this point, I'm more interested in what isn't in the published stills, than what is.

They're anonymous as far as the public is concerned. I know who hired me though and none are the perp or perps

It may not be nefarious, the driver might just have long legs.
To clarify, I am not saying with anything close to 100% accuracy that the driver cannot be seen in the picture. I am only saying that I cannot see the driver. That doesn't mean that he/she could not and is not seen by others.

Mr Hamlett: How many times have you been the focus of quotes from Shakespeare's: Hamlet?
