I'm not so sure that Mickey was headed home when she left BW's??

Howdy folks,

Noob local here. I've been following the threads for a few days. Glad to see everyone coming together as community both on and offline.

Here's my perspective on the car. Initially I thought it to be a frankenstein hooptie with some serious body damage. After googling around and trying a few photo correction tutorials, I have some new thoughts.

* I'm no expert. I probably distorted the car alot. The paint job is what I wanted show. It's a fairly popular custom paint job (especially on older model Monte Carlo's)

Here's what I did:
- rotated the original image so the curb is on a horizontal path
- removed the curve of the road using a lens distortion filter (tutorial)
- adjusted the contrast (made the dark colors darker and the light colors lighter)

Sorry if all of this has already been addressed, it's been hard keeping up with all the threads. If I had to bet money on it, my guess would be on an late 70's mid 80's Cutlass or Malibu.

I Hope this all makes sense. I think my brain needs a nap after all that googling and fiddling with that software.

WOW, it's great to see so many people hammering on the car!!!!!!
That's a good guess. But where's the side spear? And that car seems too long for a Cutlass or Malibu, unless distortion did that... but look up an '83 Olds 98 Regency... it even has a smaller back window! Side marker light is a perfect match, AND the taillight slant. Our bud JBiggoose just cracked the case, i think!

I bet this has been discussed before and if it was I'm sorry. Can anyone shed some light....

Why do you suppose LE are asking for video footage for a 2 hour window of time here: http://www.klfy.com/story/18570540/missing-mickey-shunick

snipped...Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are asking business owners and those residents with video surveillance equipment to review footage from May 19, 2012, between the hours of 1:30 am and 3:30 am

If the timestamps are correct on the released photo's of Mickey and her ride home was to only take 20 minutes...

:waitasec:

I suppose it has something to do with the footage of those vehicles we aren't seeing...

I hope they know oodles more than they are letting on.

I wished all day something B I G happened to bring MICKEY safely back home.

Maybe overnight...

Where are you Mickey?

Could it be that Mickey was not heading home, but went to another bar? Could LE have information they are keeping very quiet, like some one stated they saw Mickey at XYZ after the last time she was caught on video?

Possible a drink was spiked with date rape drug and someone 'gave her and a her bike a ride'????

Great idea about the paint job. I didn't think of that. But the wheel wells are squared on the Caddys and Olds and round on the Cutlass, etc.

Can you use Google to help really nail the year of the car?

I am almost sure now that we're looking at a ca. 1983 Oldsmobile 98 Regency

DUDE, I think the side marker light just cinched it! The "Caddy" is an Olds 98 Regency!! Probably ca. 1983!

Congrats!

Now, I know nothing about cars, except that they need gas, but it appears to me from the pictures I've looked at on google that the back glass is bigger on the regency compared to the unknown hoopty car.

I don't think Mickey was ready to stop partying when she left Artmosphere. And, she didn't want to party with BW!

  • #131
And would that be the text about going out with her?

If you can wait a while, I'll rewind my VCR (seriously) and watch the tape of Charlie's interview tonight. brb.........

One would assume. From what I remember, there is a stairwell on the front side of the building. It *might* be capturing that area. But the photo must have come from something near the back entrance to the offices (first turnoff into Sq. 224) as it more directly faces that stretch of the apartments. There is a chance that it's coming from 221 (and I can't recall if that's a lawyer's office or what).

Do we also know what camera snapped the lone picture of her on Versailles? I thought I remember hearing people say the white truck was down that street also but I don't recall seeing the actual photo. What place of business would have caught this on Versailles? I think if the truck was on Versailles, then that alludes that he was following her.

Yeah, I see it too. But look at what the motion has done to the rest of the car... the windows and the front. The angles aren't even all the same as they go down the car. It's tricky. I hear you, but don't quite trust it.

Look at the front of the car in the "good" photo and then look at it in the blurred one. The front is straight in the first, angled in the second. The best thing I see in that photo is the red marker light at the back. It's got a nice horizontal streak, so we know how high up it is. The placement is what needs to be researched.

Hahaha......next someone will say its two different cars!!

If I was Mickey's mother, dad or sister, I would be canvassing all of the lounges/bars/hangouts with her picture to see if anyone recognized her as being at any of them after she left BW's.

My guess is they widened the time window a bit to maybe catch any "prelude" or "aftermath" goings-on, and also perhaps to allow for any non-synced times on the various cameras. JMO

Well hello fellow female! It takes one to know one!

Yes... but most of the vinyl-top redos I have seen in Lafayette have been "puffy" - plus theres motion blur from the white top. Who's to say this isn;t a decent restoration that didn't recently get in a wreck and so has a primered fender?

That side marker light blurred horizontally in the second, "blurry" pic cinches it for me. There's no comparable vehicle with a light in that spot.

Awesome! Good job fried!!

I'm going to redo my flyer tomorrow. That thing's an Oldsmobile 98.

'
Back ATCHA!!!! The constructive criticism and your sticking by your guns got the final puzzle piece together!!

Look at that rear side-marker light... does that cinch it, or WHAT?
