Just a quick note....

I know the search was called off at the Whiskey Bay exit, but there's still activity out there this morning. Anyone with better eyes want to take a look at the cam and see if that looks like police or if it's just Joe Schmoe out for a fishing expedition?

Does anyone have the link handy so I don't have to go back and dig for it? TIA

If the white truck in the LS case was ruled out and the person cleared, why is the white truck in the MS case of interest to LE in Lauren's case. Strange.
IMO, I find the Anthropology connection to be a more interesting connection in these girls disappearing. Wonder if either of them went on any Archaeological digs? Not sure why I wonder that, but I do.

Were Louisiana student Mickey Shunick and Indiana's Lauren Spierer abducted by same man? Police join forces after white pick-up truck spotted where both girls went missing
Mickey Shunick, 22, was last seen cycling home in early hours of May 19

Lauren Spierer, 20, went missing after night out with friends on June 3, 2011

Interesting. Lauren's disappearance was the first thing to come to mind when the white truck pics were publicized in Mickey's case.

IIRC the white truck was captured twice the morning Lauren disappeared, it circled the block.

It seems along shot that the cases are connected. It sure gives me an eerie feeling tho that there are two college students with strikingly similar features disappeared approx a year apart. Both were alone in early morning hours and a white truck is photographed trolling the area. It just gives me the creeps to think this guy(s) is trolling college towns after the semester has ended and there are fewer students around town.

Just thinking and typing......

It gives me jitters up and down my spine to think someone may be going from town to town with his whitetrucks PERPING and circling around. tears in my eyes....freakout actually.

Becky and are going to do video this am. We will upload video of her whole route for everyone. Better than going to Blackham!

Clicky!

Just make sure you're checking out the East facing cam, though. It looks like there's someone by the water at the moment.

You're right, Mathilda. Those of us who have followed Lauren Spierer's case closely are experiencing deja vu. So far, I haven't seen anything to convince me it's more than just a coincidence, but an eerie one, for sure.

Regarding the truck in LS's case, it didn't circle the block twice. LE initially thought it did because of a time discrepancy between the cameras that captured the truck's image. Also important to remember that the truck's driver was subsequently questioned and cleared by LE.

I actually think I see two somebody's out there, but cannot tell if they are LE just too tiny to depict.

I remember reading something like that too. I think I also read that Brettly is a vegan and that ruled out his eating anything from Taco Bell.

We have a vegan poster here on Websleuths. That poster has said that there ARE vegan friendly choices at Taco Bell.

DUDE, I think the side marker light just cinched it! The "Caddy" is an Olds 98 Regency!! Probably ca. 1983!

Congrats!

You know what? On the Find Mickey Now FB page, a guy identified the car as an Olds 98 Regency within hours of the photo being released. I will have to see if I can find his post, see if he had any other insights.

Oh great thought about the antropology program, andalso! It''s been awhile since I've followed Lauren's case closely but I recall she went on a dig in Israel. (she was a fashion major tho)

I thought the police ruled that white truck out too. Perhaps BPD revisiting it since Mickey's disappearance and a white truck is seen in surveillance vids.

Actually there are several items at TB that are Vegan. Bean burrito with no cheese is a favorite....Also the seven layer with no Sour cream and no cheese...IMO

Yes this before video and bike emerged; probably around wednesday or thursday last week. My days are running together and I am a bit frazzled from it all. Does anyone know if they are offering free counseling to anyone in the immediate vicinity of where this took place? This is THE CLOSEST I HAVE EVER BEEN TO a missing person case. I do not feel safe.

Bless your heart. I do not live in Louisiana, but I will try to ask around and see if there is some counseling being offered.

Hun, just some strong advice. Sometimes even the best sleuther has to take a step back now and again. I am just worried about you. As far as counseling free in your area, I heard you mention your a student, please check with your school. I am willing to bet they have free counseling at this time. If you are feeling "freaked out" or "unsafe" follow your gut, do not do things when searching that make you feel this way., You don't want to rake yourself emotionally over the coals. There is no shame in taking a time out, for an hour, day or week. Just saying your input here from the safe confines of your home is helpful too. Don't feel the need to put yourself out there if its going to cause you emotional damages or pain, we at the websleuth community do care....

I figured someone would find one! ;) But yeah, like I said, none of us are truly invulnerable and we should all be careful. With all this happening right under my nose, I've been thinking about looking into a self-defense class. I wanted to take one in college but I was doubled up on classes and didn't have time.

Carried over from T-5, but wanted to respond.

I carry mace on my keychain and have taken a self defense class. What really shook me to the core was the case of a young women who was jogging... with her dog...and had a black belt, and was still attacked and murdered. He hit her in the back of the head and gained control over her. THAT is scary. She couldn't do anything. I can't remember her name, but I want to say it was in CA. Just chilling.

Shelley, I am sorry people made you feel so bad and made you feel rejected. I don't think this had anything to do with 9 USD and if it did how petty. I think this had to do with ego's... Just keep doing what you are doing. I really wonder about that list of people they are rejecting however, that is very negative to the cause of finding M. Between that and the negativity on her page about MSM releases, makes you wonder. I am just saying everyone needs to work together, no room for ego's on a search team. Rant over...lol.

Excellent "Rant" Portabella.

Also, Mace is not 100 percent foolproof. (for lack of better words). I have been O.C. certified for my job. For this cert. we had to take it to see how it would feel, and to see if we could function after being sprayed. I was so worried and dreaded that day so badly. Well, I really had no problem with it surprisingly. It smelled bad, but I really did not react badly as many others did in my class. They say that if you are a mother and have many children it is less likely to react with you. Also if you eat lots of hot foods it can also make it ineffective. Also, during class they mentioned that if you don't spray it properly and miss you might just make the perp more angry, and yes they can still function. Just figured I would add my :twocents: as its really not a cure all. If M. was attacked then tried to use her O.C. then its very possible depending on weather, and the fact she may have been already panicked that the O.C. never met its mark. I have seen many an officer spray himself or a partner also and they are trained. Just thought it was worth mentioning....IMHO

If you feel unsafe, take a self-defense class. I am not sure what the laws in Louisiana are for concealed handguns, but if you are comfortable with that, buy a gun, take the course, and carry your weapon. I don't leave my house without mine.

I didn't follow Lauren's case. Was a description of the driver ever mentioned?

I really think there should be a way to find out if LE is interested in the Cadillac-do any of the locals have any LE connection at all, just enough to know if they are trying to locate it, or already have? It would be a shame to find out later that they ID'd it right away. JMO

cluciano63, I contacted the LPD & discussed this with a detective-response: can't discuss that info...

Sent LPD PIO an email:

Please update the info on the LPD website of the vehicles of interest in the Mickey Schunick investigation; year model, color, & body style of cadillac-whether owners have been identified, etc. if possible..

An aware American public is a very valuable resource in missing persons investigations..
LPD & all involved are doing an excellent job..

Thank you

Also, in many states, it is pretty easy to purchase a taser for protection if you are uncomfortable with a handgun, but still want some sort of weapon to carry. They are generally inexpensive and you can conceal them easily.
