Unbelievable and that’s me being polite. I’m upset for Quawan, his loved ones and friends

Why the enmitt till comparison??
Are the friend and his mother Caucasian??
It's a little presumptive to compare a body to that of Enmitt Till and suggest a lynching.

Dead bodies are never a pretty sight. A body left to the elements for a few days will likely decompose faster. Insects or birds, etc, often target the mouth, nose, eyes and lips and can cause drastic changes in appearance. The ME should have been able to determine if the victim suffered any injuries before his death.

Still, it's a good idea to get a second autopsy if the family is concerned. If LE is investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, maybe they will find evidence of foul play.

The people who last saw him might have some information. It's unfortunate LE didn't start looking for him on the first day.

I don’t think this case meets the criteria for an Amber Alert.

Guidelines for Issuing AMBER Alerts | AMBER Alert
  • There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
  • The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
  • There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child.
  • The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
  • The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.
Family, activists demand justice for Quawan 'Bobby' Charles, Black teen found dead in rural Iberia Parish

Bobby left his father's Baldwin home without permission on the afternoon of Oct. 30 with a 17-year-old friend and his friend's mother, according to a family spokesperson.
<snip>
Breaux said her agency wasn't alerted to Bobby's disappearance before deputies discovered the teen's body, although she did say his parents were "aware that he went to someone's house in Loreauville."

The Sheriff's Office regularly receives alerts from other agencies about missing persons cases, but not always, Breaux said.

Bobby had not lived in the town of Baldwin in St. Mary Parish for long. He moved there recently after getting involved with "the wrong crowd" in his hometown of Youngsville in Lafayette Parish, according to his family.

AMBER Alert Criteria

The following criteria MUST be met before an AMBER Alert is activated:

  1. Law enforcement confirms a child, aged 17 or under, has been abducted.
  2. Law enforcement believes the circumstances surrounding the abduction indicate that the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death.
  3. There must be enough descriptive information about the child, abductor, and/or suspect's vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help the case

Maybe they felt he wasn’t in danger because he was with a friend?

However I read that

If the current case does not meet Louisiana's criteria, there is a Level II action plan called an Endangered/Missing Child Advisory. Louisiana State Police can take the available information from the requesting law enforcement agency and forward that information to all media statewide from the agency's current statewide media contact list.

Snip:
“I’ve been crying all day. I wake up in the middle of the night. I’m missing my son. I’m missing his smile. I’m missing his jokes,” said Nelson at a vigil later held to remember him.

The family now has an attorney, who questions how seriously detectives treated the missing person report.

“To pacify the family, law enforcement said that Bobby was probably at a football game and dismissed their fears. Despite the family’s pleas, no Amber Alert was ever issued,” wrote attorney, Ron Haley.

Stoking the family’s demand for answers is a graphic photograph leaked online of Charles' body.
...
The authenticity of the photo has not been confirmed with law enforcement.

This poor boy was found dead. Of course the family wants answers. We've seen nothing from the people he left with. I'm interested in what they have to say.

Is sugar cane still being harvested right now?
Yes, we are the height of the cane harvesting season. The cane is cut and burned to remove the excess material. Every field has a headway where the tractors and or combines prepare the came for hauling. The farmers were 12+ hrs. a day 7 days a week. It’s hard and messy work. Oftentimes the machinery needs to be towed out of the fields.
People are seen riding motorbikes and 4-wheelers all year, legally and illegally. Cane season usually ends at Christmas or shortly afterward. Farming is the primary business in this area. Most Acadiana parishes have a sugar refinery that processes local cane. This area is pro-gun and I would venture to say that each household has multiple shotguns and rifles for hunting deer, duck, wild boars, etc. However, this area has some of the kindest and hardworking individuals. Many of us speak English and French and have a joie de vie like no other place.

He moved there recently from Youngsville.

A 17 year old friend and that friend’s mother picked him up and took him to their house in Loreauville. (Wonder why the mother came too) Was Bobby’s father not home when they came to pick him up or did he make plans to sneak out of the house and go with them?

Was this a friend from his old school? Is that why they didn’t want him to go to this friend’s house? Or was Bobby grounded?
Not allowed to associate with former friends?

Sounds like Bobby’s parents knew he had gone with a certain friend and knew where he lived. Did they go there and Bobby wasn’t there? There’s a big piece of the puzzle missing.

I’m confused by the surroundings of Ed Broussard road on the map, the supposed drowning and the mother and son he left the house with

including the fact that Quawan’s bedroom was reportedly locked from the inside,

Reading your post was enjoyable. Interesting. I could almost see myself standing in the field listening to nature and regional game. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Glad to see you here!

It was said that QC was found face down in a creek. There are a few ponds and drainage ditches but no creeks in that area.

I was able to find the mother and son that he supposedly left with but not in MSM yet. My guess is that he met them when he lived in Youngsville.

Maybe the 17 year old friend did not have a license yet and his mother had to drive him. It's not clear if they picked him up at his home or somewhere else. One article said QC left the home and another says he was "taken."

If he went with them to their house, I wonder what they had to say about when he left or the last time they saw him.

Why would he be in a sugar cane field near a creek? Did he die there or was his body moved there? I wonder why LE is not investigating the case as a homicide. The manner of death must have been listed as "accidental" or "undetermined." Apparently the COD was drowning. It should be easy to determine whether or not he drowned in the creek or was placed there after death. Hopefully the second autopsy will result in some answers. I don't see how they can already have the final results for the first one.

This disturbing case has been putting little stinging spikes into my thoughts all day. I feel so badly for this family. 15 years old ~ he was just a kid. My granddaughter is almost 14 and I can’t imagine this happening.

  • #36
Wonder when the last time his father actually saw him? I’m guessing he went out a window if the door was locked.

  • #37
Would toxicology already be back? If he moved to dads because he was in trouble in the old place maybe there are drugs or alcohol involved here. They have said drowning is COD but there could be other factors. Surely there has to be some kind of investigation!

As a parent, I would demand a second autopsy.
The groups, Unity 7 and The Village 337 are aligning themselves with families that have loved ones killed by LE in Acadiana. IMO: these groups love to quickly claim murder at the hands of LE, protest, and scream at parish council meetings. It’s been interesting to see the fighting between the group, NAACP, and the Not Your F***ing Army militia group. The groups want to ****** the police department but called police when someone allegedly threatened him/her on social media.
I'm a former LPC who has an interest in social justice. I’ve been following these groups from a distance.

BBM
After reading the summary on the 🤬🤬🤬 page which has over 125K raised already, and seeing the horrible photo comparisons (which is violence-enticing to me) together with the LE press release there is obvious tension here, with history. This is horrendous on all parts. I pray the family gets answers but see this will be very ugly. Poor Quawan.

Is it reported that he was located in a creek? We have bayous and tons of private fish ponds and lakes.

Right I only saw two bodies of water on Google. Yes I’ve found them they are listed in an article I posted on page 1.

“There are certain circumstances where I absolutely understand - and I think anybody would - why things aren’t made [availble] to the public,” said attorney Ron Haley in an interview with WAFB. "But let’s talk specifically about Bobby Charles. His family should know...His mother and father should be made aware of every step of this investigation. "

Haley says besides the impacts to his clients, the community’s peace of mind is being eroded by the possibility that someone connected to the teen’s death could be living among them.

“The entire community should be frustrated with that because whoever is responsible for both his murder and coverup needs to be in jail and right now they’re roaming free with no restrictions in that community. And they are a danger to that community,” said Haley.
