It was estimated that about 5,000 pets were buried on its grounds, mostly dogs and cats, but also parakeets, parrots, myna birds, a cheetah, a hen, monkeys, rabbits -- even the boa constrictor named Serita who had performed on "The Tonight Show" in the 1960s and was afforded a funeral with a choir that sang "Goodnight, Irene."
And that's just the non-human body count!

I'm surprised that ghost hunters don't do Halloween TV specials there, it's really creepy.

True crime stories don't get much more bizarre!

This story could be turned into a Netflix docuseries. Thanks for sharing!

Fascinating timeline -https://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2014/07/the_eerie_murderous_past_of_st.html
Exactly! Seven human deaths - guy in the 1845 duel; possibly murdered Jack Thompson and his murdered wife, Mary; murderer and asylum escapee Grace and her murdered daughter Dorothy and her murdered pair of hubbys, plus Jack's possible buried treasure and his connection to the crooked Pendergast regime; jazz age Kansas City and always evocative New Orleans....and all set in a Louisiana pet cemetery! Great thread just ripe for a docuseries!

Definitely has a "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" tang to it! Add kudzu, azaleas, bougainvillea, "There was the hum of bees and the musky odor of pinks filled the air," and dead pets!
