what is this adoration ... maybe someone followed them home from it
are other people present at it
It is a Catholic religious practice / custom.

Basically, the consecrated host (Catholics believe to be the actual presence of Christ) is taken out of the Tabernacle and placed in a holder known as a monstrance. The monstrance with the host is then displayed to the congregation for adoration. This cannot be done with out a certain amount of preparation as it is viewed as extremely sacred.

Once the consecrated host / presence is displayed, it must be accompanied by somebody 24/7/365. I believe this comes from the passage regarding the 'Agony in the Garden '. People volunteer for certain times. Usually the times are in hour blocks. People use the time to pray, be alone with Christ, read the Bible, think etc*.

Some adorations last years and some people keep the same adoration time for years. As for other people being present, one does not need to be on a scheduled time to enter. Likewise, one can enter for adoration purely on impulse for prayer without being scheduled. The 2:30 time would make an impulsive adorer less likely, but by no means impossible.

*The less devout like myself in my younger years would spend too much time glancing back at the clock.

Just coming to say the same thing.
This thread is for the elderly couple murdered in their home in Jeff Davis Parish this past weekend.
The Michael T Collins reference in the article written on October 31
is to the murder of another elderly couple at their business in Livingston Parish.
yes i apologize about that!

It must have been very violent?
“It saddens me deeply to have to stand here before you and talk about what is certainly the most heinous and senseless crime that we’ve encountered during my career with the Denham Springs Police Department.”
Chief Shannon Womack, Denham Springs Police Department
i agree. but maybe whoever did this wanted money? i wonder if they had any enemies

Sorry!
I hope that you don't feel that I may have been criticizing you. I surely wasn't.
I was just trying to clarify that we had two different cases of elderly couples being murdered in the same state within a month of each other. Very unusual to me. My first thought was to see if either of them could have been connected to each other or to the Dermond case in Georgia.

I see you are a new member.
Welcome to WS.

IMO I’m confused about the Lake Charles church adoration. Perhaps it’s just me but I wouldn’t do a 2am in Lake Charles when there’s a church in Laccasine, St John the Evangelist. Just thinking out loud.
Not all Catholic Churches have 24 hrs. of adoration.

Dear evpw,

They do sound like lovely people who were a solid part of their community.

Do you think maybe they walked into a robbery taking place?

The timing of them leaving in the wee hours of the morning to the church and then their bodies found hours later seems like there is a connection with the timing.

Does the timing have something to do with this? I keep thinking that somehow it played into this.

Did the perpetrator happen to see them leave for the church and think (because of the early, early hour) that they wouldn't be back for the rest of the day or week? Sometimes people leave for the airport if they are going on vacation super early in the morning. Was someone already watching the house?

I hope that the police find whoever did this horrible crime and fast.

I honestly do think that this was a robbery. But if the perpetrator saw them and had been stalking them for awhile, he/she could’ve seen them at church and assumed they were easy targets, and rob them.
The church could have security cameras! They could check and see if a vehicle could’ve followed them back home or check the street cameras maybe?

Great thinking evpw!

In addition, surveillance cams from the surrounding area close to their house could help identify vehicles which were driven in the early morning hours.

If it was a robbery, why murder the elderly couple.
Surely this couple could easily be controlled without murder.
MOO.

i’m sure they could’ve controlled them but there’s also the possibility that they would’ve told police what happened

Elderly couple’s deaths appear to be ‘targeted act’
guys!!! they said they were found in their bedroom!!! okay so maybe whoever did it was planning to rob/kill them and so when they kicked open the door maybe they ran to their bedroom? maybe asleep but i figured they would hear the door being kicked in

Dear epvw,

Thank you for the link to the news article.

Those words "targeted act" are chilling to read.

When the neighbor/farmhand helped the couple inside after returning from the church, he reported that everything seemed fine. Around 12 hours later, the Sheriff saw that the door had been kicked in.

The authorities are asking the public to contact them if they have a surveillance cam along that highway.

I am praying that the perpetrator's vehicle is captured clearly on a surveillance cam somewhere along that area.

Excerpts from article: Elderly couple’s deaths appear to be ‘targeted act’

"Anyone who may have seen anything, or may have a security camera showing the highway near the victims' home, is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 337-824-3850.

"Mr. Gotreaux has a neighbor that works with him helping him feeding the cattle and everyday little chores and Mr. Gotreaux wasn't answering the phone and he tried several times, so he got nervous and called 911," Woods said.

"We went out and surveyed the property and seen that the door was kicked in and we went in and discovered them."

i wonder if they got stabbed? i know this isn’t important but if they got shot couldn’t they find the bullets and match it to a gun? then they could look in the area to see if a gun had be registered to anyone. or maybe finger prints? when my house got robbed the back door was kicked in and they left a boot mark on the door, again probably not important but it could help to decide if it was a male or female
