I know this is off topic, but you guys are so lucky! I pay $60 WEEKLY during the hot months and $60 Bi-Weekly in the "winter" just to have my grass cut, sidewalks edged and weed-eating done.

In the summer, you can actually see the growth of the grass by sundown......
I know, I know.. my yard guy was great. I had to get married to replace him! lol

Reportedly, KH earns a good salary and TH wasn't working as a teacher anymore. Just wondering who was watching the pocket book.

Where I live, landscapers are expensive. This doesn't seem like the kind of work you could have done without your spouse asking where did the money go.

I think it depends on what is meant by "landscaper."

If what is meant is someone who designs garden plantings and trees, etc, yeah, that's a pricey service.

On the other hand, if what is meant is someone who mows the lawn, strimmers the fencelines and hauls debris, that's something that I can get done for less than $100/day.

Different couples run their finances differently but I don't think it is unreasonable to think that in a household with an annual income of around $100,000, that a couple hundred stray dollars would go unnoticed.

Besides, Kaine may very well have known about the landscaper's legal services and not known about any alleged illegal services being solicited. If you see what I mean.

"this family had a secret gaping hole in it sooooo big that the dear little boy fell right through it."

Indeed, the very portal that Desiree's sister referred to that opened up and Kyron fell into it.

Oh, my.

I think putting a hit on her husband had more to do with hate of him then it did with any money factor or insurance.

Sounds like maybe she just got frustrated in her attempts to have Kaine killed and her anger was displaced on to Kyron.

No real rhyme or reason.

The hit couldn't have been for financial gain as she reportedly offered a LARGE ammount of money to the landscaper.

Attorney's always pop up in big cases.Looks like other media sources are popping on the story, they don't want to be outdone in any breaking news. Now they'll be so much info on this and it will be conflicting because it will be from friends and family on both sides who weigh in.LE will be the only to trust on this one when they decide to tell what they want out there.

Terri sounds like a patient woman with long term plans. This started quite some time ago. She wanted to get rid of Kaine. First her older boy moved out, now Kyron's gone missing - what was the plan? It seems too ambitious to do something with Kyron then go in for the actual getting rid of Kaine. It just seems like a bigger plan than you'd expect from a deraged person, much more cold and calculating. Where's Kyron!

Scandi that is pure rumor that gets the thread shut down.
Thanks Dr. Crazy that was written here. I'm going to go delete my post, and thanks for clearing that up. xox

Yes it could have been a LARGE sum of money that was based on a percentage of a LARGE, LARGE , LARGE, insurance policy or estate.

I'm imagine and hope so.

BBM

I don't know about that ... it depends on how big an insurance policy Kaine had.

$3 million policy and give $500k to the killer? Still leaves a good wad of cash.

It sounds to me like the sheriff didn't want to see that story printed. It is private. It conceivably could hurt the investigation.

RC, I thought that too. But think about this also: $300,000 spent on the investigation and not once shred of progress is seen by the public. You have to bet he was getting calls about that. This way the public now knows what he's had to deal with and why all the secrecy.

Portlanders say "Ah Ha! Sheriff IS doing his job".

I believe though she is a very disturbed individual who's hate for her husband got projected onto Kyron.

I live in the Sierra Mountain Range of northern California on land very similar to the Horman's.

Because of the danger of forest fires, there is a tremendous amount of yard work that needs to be done including removing all dead wood off the trees, clearing leaves and pine/fir needles and cones from at least 30 feet surrounding the propane tank, firewood pile and all structures.

Roofs have to be cleaned of all debri and all grass needs to be cut down to ground level, regardless if it is a lawn or native grass, along the road and around the wood pile, propane tank, house and outbuildings.

Ponderosa pine trees drop an amazing amount of needles and the black oak lose all their leaves each fall.

In California, anyone who does not perform their yearly fire hazard reduction requirements can be given a fire hazard reduction violation notice which indicates all the work that must be done to come into compliance. Refusal to comply will result in a citation to appear in court and a fine.

Where I live, very few people have lawns and the houses are located in the woods as the Horman's house is unlike houses that have been built on a bare lot. Because of this, there isn't the need to have a landscaper but someone to maintain the native trees, shrubs, grasses, etc.

I've been a wildland firefighter in your neck of the woods ::waves::.

As far as the fire break around the house. I don't think this would be the case in Portland--no wildfires right in town there. It's damper here than down south. The media keep saying that the Hormans live in *rural* Portland, but it's really a relative term. Yes, their property is wooded, but I wouldn't consider it rural. The wildland firefighting term "rurban" or "rural-urban interface" might fit here, but I'm thinking not.

But there would still be work for landscapers. Now I work for the state government, in a government building, and the landscapers are constantly busy in the winter, even without snow. Laying gravel and deicer, cleaning up after gravel and deicer, cleaning up leaves and branches after the numerous wind storms, pressure washing, tree trimming, fertilizing, etc., etc.

Why is the Oregonian protecting this guys identity? All he can do is testify now. Saying who he is does not change that at all. The sting part of the operation is over.

Release this guys name, he is an alleged criminal for not reporting the murder for higher scheme and there are people that might have seen him the day Kyron disappeared.

They should release his name and release his photo.

Is he really an alleged criminal? What crime did he commit?

I wish he had said "no comment" only. Not, "we don't get involved with things like that," or something to that effect.

He did not report an attempt to hire him to kill someone. I believe that is a crime.

  • #656
She may have tried to hire other people too???
And how does she afford to hire the top defense attorney in the state.

I hope we don't ever see a sell-off of family photos (like in the Anthony case) or 'a million bucks for my story' situation like Joran is attempting.

Being ASKED to kill someone's spouse does not make you a criminal; saying YES does.

"Large amount of money" is a vague term. That could be $20,000 or it could be $200,000. Personally, I've been amazed at how little money people offer prospective hit men. I've read of cases where as little as $5,000 was offered.

Do we know he did not report this? Maybe it was blown off by LE.

I am looking online for any law about this but have recently lost a large chunk of my bookmarks (and if you know me, you know I am devistated!)

Red highlight by me.

I said on here this morning that the "Kaine was abusive" angle would rear it's head, and there it is right on que.

I bet that's what she told the gardener - that Kaine was abusive/violent to her and the kids, that he would kill her if she tried to get a divorce, blah blah. That's why she needed him killed rather than just divorced. This is so typical.

I still think whatever happened to Kyron happened because he saw/heard something he was not supposed to see/hear.

IMO

Sounds more like "affair" to me. Maybe he cheated on her. That would definitely hurt!
