FL Large amounts (over 100) of recently missing children in Florida. Dec 2024

is there any way to get on the namus team or apply to like... moderate or something? Same here on Websleuths; is there an easier way to mark a thread as found? I tend to sort by first posts, and it's annoying doing a first pass sometimes to scroll down to a "found" post

The best way get a thread marked FOUND or GUILTY or any other change is to use report under a post. Forum Coordinators are who move and mark threads - there aren't enough to read every thread, so we rely on the members to let us know.

Anybody who is interested in becoming a Forum Coordinator or Moderator should email [email protected] (that's Tricia) or DM @Sillybilly. Websleuths could always use more help!

I'm not sure about NAMUS - maybe somebody else will chime in.

Could it be that a lot simply haven't been taken off the list once found? Like an administrative issue?

i’ll get something together and shoot it a message! i’m also a web dev (front and back ends);

i tend to not hit report buttons on forums unless someone has done something highly offensive, maybe it could be a chance to update some wordings? MOO would be “mark”ing a post found/solved/deceased and then having the report button be for violations; it might get more closeouts too

Yes, I believe that. I've contacted the sheriff's office for a few that I've seen them report on Facebook have been found, but they are still on NAMUS.

Sadly, that's a fairly valid number and not too far off from what is seen in other states. In 2023 the National Center for Missing Exploited Children (which Partners with the FBI in missing/endangered child cases) had 29,000 missing kids reported for the year 2023 which works out to be an average of about 50 kids per month per state, obviously some states with higher population densities and more urban areas having high numbers. Endangered Runaways FBI page with the involvement with the program and links for parents and other caregivers: https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help-you/parents-and-caregivers-protecting-your-kids
But because they are minors it is illegal for 'found runaways' to be named publicly. The true numbers are not known to the general public
