Why is the Judge asking so many questions? That's for the Crown to do. Wake up Crown!

I like the Judge. He is engaged and is asking a lot of questions to make sure he has the information correct. It's better to ask the questions then to say "I didn't understand a word of that", especially if he is a dinosaur and it's technical stuff. Not saying he is. I expect this will help inform his jury instruction before deliberations and his sentencing. I like the way he speaks and find myself looking ahead to this when he interjects with his questions.

Sure but the judge had to clarify to the jury that the ipad was Laura's. I would hope the Crown would have made that perfectly clear since it is a major piece of evidence.

But can they discuss known prior convictions when they are in deliberation? Even if they cannot use that knowledge to sway their decision?

I guess I can just wait for instructions to the jury though

Jurors are only permitted to consider evidence which was properly presented to them in Court.

Everything else that they may know or not know about a case cannot be used because it is not in evidence and was not subject to the scrutiny of cross-examination..
