Thank you again Mr. Hornsby for taking time to answer our questions..

I think this has been asked, yet haven't found your answer..

Do you see this trial happening during the summer of 2010? Or do you foresee further delays?

I believe in all Yuri posted around 30 times.

Dick Tracy Orlando is his handle.

Thank you, now I remember. I was going through the thread and found this. I have thoroughly enjoyed some of the members here and in the absence of my own parents I have grown very fond of a few of them. One that I admire is Bond. Here is what he had to say about Yuri. I agree with him, this is a guy that gets up and goes to work each day dealing with the worst of the worst for VERY little pay and certainly no appreciation. And still, he fights the good fight. I thank you Mr. Hornsby for posting, but I am standing with Yuri, not for being perfect, but for doing what he does to protect me, your average citizen. I think of LE much like the troops with much love and affection, they keep me safe at night and I am grateful. So here is the old post for your edification tonight:from one of my favorites, BondJamesBond

"If you'll pardon a brief tangent to the topic...I'll bring it back around.

Mine is a small family. Last 3 generations were 1 or 2 children each. My maternal grandfather lived hundreds of miles away when I was a kid. That could've been the other side of the world as far as impacting a kid's life back then. Saw him once/5 years or so. Never really knew him before he died. Paternal grandfather died the year I was born. Dad died the year I graduated from college. Not whining here. I've been very blessed. Just kinda tellin' you that to tell you this...

When I was ~15 my Dad and I went to visit his only uncle. We were there to borrow some farm equipment. Only there for an hour or so to get things loaded up on a trailer. I'd never spent much time around this uncle (my great-uncle I guess), this hour was by far the most ever... but the man forever made an impression on me.

He was tall, probably 6' 2", and the very definition of, "barrel-chested". In his early-60's if I'd guessed. Hair was silvery-white. Imagine a John Wayne or Brian Keith kinda fella. Had a faded tattoo on his forearm...no idea what it was...simple...green ink was all I remember. Seemed to have a twinkle in his eye. Not a man of many words. Kind. Soft-spoken. Looked as strong as an ox though.

As we drove off in our '63 Chevy pick-up, pulling whatever behind us on a trailer, I mentioned to Dad that it was pretty cool just being around Uncle Brooks. I dunno what words I used. I'm sure I didn't say, "pretty cool", but, YKWIM.

Now, in a '63 Chevy pick-up there is no AC, and no radio. And on a 30-minute drive down twisting country highways you first, pay attention to the trailer your pulling, and when your not doing that...you squeeze in a little conversation. This is where & how almost every single man-to-man conversation I had w/ my father ever took place.

On this Saturday one fall, with the windows rolled down driving past the harvested corn & bean fields my father explained that Uncle Brooks was a retired marine. That his unit was a landing force @ Iwo Jima, and that many of his unit didn't survive. Said Uncle Brooks had seen things that he didn't really ever talk about. Never bragged about his experience, never boasted, and never hung his head 'bout it either. "Salt of the earth", he said - although I didn't know what that meant at the time - "a rock".

Now...I looked up to my Dad as much as any son ever has. And hearing my Dad express these things...well..it wasn't common-place. It was reserved for something special.

So...while this kinda impression wasn't just for men (tell you about my great-grandmother another time) it became for me the model of what it means to be a man. It wasn't so much the thinking...it was the feeling. In that moment I felt secure. I felt protected. I felt proud to be counted among them.

Lately, IRL or portrayed someway, I see men cast in a negative light. Either the butt-end of a joke, the perp of some malicious act, or in some other less-than admirable fashion. I...I have that memory of my Dad, my Uncle Brooks as a touchstone. I often wonder what becomes of the boys that don't have these experiences. In no way could I ever slight a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, etc. imparting to boy what it means to be a man. I'm just relating my personal experience. I was blessed to have it.

...and to bring that back around to topic. I see Yuri M. and John A. in this same light. Giving us an example of what it means to be a man. To give us security in the face of things they'll surely never share with another soul.

"Salt of the earth" they are...for us, for me anyway..."a rock"."

You exchanged emails w/ Baez...so isn't that talking w/ a lawyer for the defense??

Mr Hornsby, it's been an enlightening past few days for me, readiing your patient (and maybe sometimes not so patient) responses. Sometimes you have been very eye-opening for me, sometimes I agree, but sometimes I don't. I don't always approve of your treatment of certain people. Let's just say . . . . if we were to meet for lunch (hypothetically!!), it would be interesting, but by the end of it we would be lobbing chicken wings at each other!

So obviously you are a prominent central Florida attourney. Obviously you read (even participate) in our fabulous WS board. DO YOU THINK, pure speculation here, that JB also reads here? How about your "friend" BS? Any other members of the prosecution or defense teams? How about members of the press? I realize you can't answer for all of them, or any of them, but do you think it would be in their best interest to read here?

ALSO, another speculation, would potential jury members (obviously us locals) be rejected from the jury pool due to our involvement in this forum? I'm not overly worried; I served last summer & I get a year pass at getting called back. It was a complete honor to serve, but much harder than I ever would have expected. I'm proud that I did it, but I hope I won't be called back.

I was about to say the same thing about posting during the trial. I also want to ask Mr. Hornsby if I have to pay him royalty fees to use the phrase "Peace and Chicken Grease"? :D

Please do not take what I am about to say out of context, but... I personally think Casey Anthony is guilty, I am just not sure of exactly what yet.

With that said, Mr. Kronk does not come to the table with clean hands. There are so many questionable things about him that I do not lose a second of sleep over him being vetted by the defense.

Let us not forget, we all originally thought Ms. Kerley's claim were recent fabrications because she had an ax to grind. And Kronk had previously denied he had anything to hide.

HOWEVER, the next day Kronk's lawyer issued a statement admitting that he was not only arrested for the charges (meaning probable cause was found for the arrest) but that a Grand Jury was convened. The very fact a grand jury was convened is a big deal and it does not mean they found he did not do it, it only means they did not believe that a conviction could be obtained "beyond a reasonable doubt."

And I know this - he had the arrest records expunged, and expungements usually occur because someone has something embarrassing in their past they do not want someone to find out about.

So Kronk is no angel, is he Caylee's killer - I don't think that AT ALL. I just have no problem with him being fully vetted.

p.s. A person I know from high school worked with Kronk in his "office" job before Kronk got the axe. The only thing Kronk cared about was reward money and his workers compensation claim for his back. And he apparently bragged about putting the stick he used up for sale on eBay and other loony ideas to make a buck.

I don't even know if you are still here.. probably not- which is just as well. I have not posted in this thread, been able to resist. Until now.
Are you frigging serious in this post?! I mean, come on- you are a defense lawyer, no? Or am I thinking of the wrong guy here?! Really.. I am shocked by this post!

Shocked by what? Other than my post script, what was there to be shocking?

Repost: in case it was missed.

Mr. Hornsby,
I want to personally thank you for being here and giving your insight to this case and answering everyone's questions. I have looked at your website and record and am quite impressed. If I lived in FL and found myself in trouble and could afford your services I would not hesitate to put my life in your capable hands as an attorney.

My only question is quite simple. It is said this trial should happen early to mid of 2010. Do you think this will actually happen or in your opinion do you think a plea bargain may possibly still happen in this case.

Again thank you for your time no matter that you say your doing this for selfish reasons.

I cannot speak for any other lawyers, but as they say: Curiosity kills the cat. (As for the press, some have indicated in their reports they have.)

As for the jury pool, it will depend on where the jury is selected from. But if you indicated you were active on here, I would almost surely think you wold be struck for cause. Because even if you indicate you can be fair and impartial, you also must not have done any independent "investigation."

Here's my problem with the "accident theory." If it was an accident, why doesn't Casey just say so? Instead she lets innocent people like JG and RK get scrutinzed and blamed on national media? They are ruined for life just because she doesn't want to admit it was an accident (which would be nothing compared to what she's charged with)? She wastes tons of the OCSO's time and resources looking for this alleged "nanny?" and lets people go on thinking there's this dangerous baby killer on the loose (because she didn't do it of course). She allows her lawyers to go on national media and flat out lie to the entire country, saying someone else did this. I just don't get it. She has so much more to lose if she keeps saying someone else did this than if she admits it was an accident. If it truly was an accident, I believe she would have said so by now for a lesser charge and to sway the public's opinion of her. What it comes down to, she is a sociopath who is thinks this is all fun and games, is enjoying the limelight, and thinks that she's above the law and will get away with the murder of her daughter.

Mr. Hornsby,
Do you really think the defense deserves a change of venue when they are the ones going on NATIONAL media to say their client is innocent? I know people who live out of FL who said they hadn't heard about the case until they saw her lawyers on TV. Is it really fair that they get the advantage of a COV when they are playing a huge role in the media attention?

  • #537
You exchanged emails w/ Baez...so isn't that talking w/ a lawyer for the defense??

Um, I posted a response to a listserve that we were both members of - but if that qualifies as "talking" to the defense, well then, I am a big fat liar and will stand in the corner for 15 minutes.

I agree with where you are coming from, but yes I do believe they deserve a change of venue - notwithstanding the defense media circuit.

Because the local press has made it impossible to have a fair trial here, notwithstanding the national media appearances.

I think what happened for the first 8 months after her arrest were solely due to Baez - no one else. He allowed this case to get out of control, remember Casey was in jail for the most part. So I think the blame lies with him.
