Local experts say Prince almost surely planned for his estate — but we may never know how

But just because there’s no initial sign of a will doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

Andrews said a person has up to three years after the date of death to submit a will to probate.
.....
There’s also a possibility Prince had one or more trusts — an arrangement to hold assets for the benefit of another. Unlike a will, which becomes public after a death certificate is issued and it’s filed for probate, trusts remain private.
.....
"This is by no means a race to the courthouse, it will go on for a long time,” Andrews said.

Thanks cubbeegirl...Soul Train always brings a smile of past memories. My sister absolutely loved Soul Train! She would actually arrange her Saturdays so she could watch it. She died many years ago.

Great video of Prince and Mayte!

(I had to google the title and pull up on YouTube)

Longtime chef: Prince fought throat, stomach pains recently

By KEVIN BURBACH, AP

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — On stage, Prince was still captivating audiences at recent performances in Australia and California. He hosted a pop-up party at his Paisley Park studio, and there were few outward signs in his final months that anything was wrong.

But off stage, something was different. Prince began wanting meals that were easier to digest and was fighting off waves of sore throats and frequent upset stomachs, the musician's personal chef told The Associated Press.

A law enforcement official has told the AP that investigators are looking into whether Prince, who was found dead at his home on April 21, died from an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks beforehand. The official has been briefed on the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media...

I'm sure it would take more money than what the average Joe has to take care of something like this.
The professionals will all be working of the top of what they know is there.

From what I read, this $20k loan is to float travel and personal expenses.

I would speculate that Prince was floating some family members with financial care.

I'm just saying - if they couldn't afford a plane ticket to get to his funeral - it will likely get ugly before it gets better.

Hats off to Lopez. That's a kind heart during a difficult time.

I found a court document that was printed by the Star Tribune, the lawsuit is dated April 27, 2016.
The court document states that a man named Rodney Herechio Dixson filed the suit against the estate of Prince and Paisley Park estate PRN Productions.
He states that he had an implied agreement with Prince for all intellectual property including the property in the vault. He also sued in the early 90's.

He claims that he was associated with Prince under the following names;
Aeric Alexander Mercury
Ramiees America Mercury
Long read, but here is the link to the document http://stmedia.startribune.com/documents/1probate042816.pdf

Yes I'm sure it is going to definitely get ugly. But I do hope Lopez gets his money back. Just wouldn't want something like that hanging over this.

Isn't is great ...ill try to fix the link ...it definitely brought a smile to my face ....especially the very beginning....
Sooooooouuuuuuuul train lol
Prince and Mayte were beautiful together ...I watched the Oprah interview with them right after the death of Gregory yesterday ...so incredibly sad, they were so in love and Prince was so cute ....I truly feel they were soul mates and that tragedy tore them apart.
I never saw him look at a woman in public like he did Mayte . She makes no secret of the fact that she never got over him.
He wrote some beautiful music for her .Im thinking , how does one move on from that ?

Wow, this is a must read. Thank you Thora Jay. Here is page 11:

ETA : deleted page 12 due to personal address published on PDF

The verbiage used throughout the document ("Simply put...") rubs me the wrong way. :hearno:

There's nothing simple about any of this IMVHO. This situation is extremely complex, and I'm having difficulty deciphering it. The twists and turns that have been recently revealed via MSM leave me feeling sad.

Something is just not right!

:'(

Is there any hope at all that any of this can be fairly and peacefully resolved? :dunno:

:sigh:

I also watched that video of Prince and Mayte on Oprah this morning. Yes, they seemed truly in love and I think their son's death was just too much. I had read that he would no longer sing The Most Beautiful Girl In The World because Mayte wasn't there to dance to it...

....so tell me...he never had anything in place to secure his estate for his family? (I mean Mayte & his son...who died)

You are very welcome Kimi :cheerful:

Yes, that document rubs me the wrong way also. Oh yeah, line #25 page 4 is dumbfounding! here is that quote.
"Simply put, as ascertained by years of communication and counsel between Prince Rogers Nelson and Mercury/Dixon, Rodney H. Dixon is the one and only person Prince Rogers Nelson could trust to be the executor of his estate."

Apparently not...
So sad...

Re the Oprah video, was he not just the cutest when they were talking of their love being forever and he got all shy and put his head down ? Made me so sad for how things can go so tragically wrong .

CARVER COUNTY, Minn. (KMSP) - Prince's six siblings and 10 attorneys gathered on Monday morning for a 12-minute hearing at the Carver County courthouse to confirm Bremer Trust will remain his estate's special administrator. The hearing was quick, but the process of dividing the estate should take years.

Prince’s only full sister, Tyka Nelson, had already petitioned for the bank to become the estate’s special administrator, which allows it to manage affairs at Paisley Park. At the hearing, Judge Kevin Eide determined there's still no known will, and Prince's siblings had no objections to the appointment.

I hope they don't fight , its hard enough to know that he's gone, I usually laugh at people sad about celebs dying but I totally get it now :(

Any speculation about when we will find out (or will we?) cause of death? It's driving me crazy. I read that the county ME guarantees tox results by 3 weeks, but that seems like an eternity. And that doesn't mean a published cause of death would be immediate even at that point.

I just can't wrap my head around Prince OD'ing from opiate meds (pills from Walgreens if that's true) in an elevator. It's just too strange. OD victims are usually found in bed, sitting down, etc. They don't typically suddenly crash while "in transit" (IMO/IME).

Something else had to have been going on. But he was seen riding his bike a day or two before? How sick could he have been if he was out riding?

It's all too strange. I'm not suggesting any kind of nefarious murder plot or anything of that sort. But medically, this is a strange set of circumstances. I could see a more sudden collapse/heart attack/seizure if cocaine was involved, but I haven't even heard of any speculation about that, and it doesn't seem like he was into "recreational" drugs.

It is indeed all too strange for the reasons you cited. He was seen by a doctor only a week before which adds another level of strange to me.
