Leslie Van Houten up for parole again

  • #361
LVH is getting older, kick her to the curb. Let her get a job, and pay her own bills, buy her own medication.

My Mom is older than LVH, and with Medicare, literally cannot afford her medications, they cost over $300 a month, which I pay.

Our prison system has a crisis of aging criminals. Who receive better health care and treatment than seniors not incarcerated.

LVH gets 3 hots and a cot for free, and has been on the system for decades. I say, throw her out, let her figure out how to manage everything on her own.

Hey, mickey! :)

Here's my only concern with that:

LVH is going to have instant, overnight celebrity status if she gets paroled.

She will have lucrative book offers, tv/radio offers, public speaking offers, etc.

In other words, the woman is going to be rolling in dough if she gets out of the pokey.

LVH will not experience financial hardship, IMO. She's a smart, savvy woman.

So there's that.

The other issue, though, to me, really is that she was initially sentenced to death and then when CA abolished the DP, her sentence got commuted to life in prison.

This is JMO here, but I really don't think anyone guilty of a murder who was sentenced to death should ever be allowed to walk out of a prison.

As always, though, I greatly respect your opinion!

You make some very good points in your post, which provide great food for thought!

Probably right, it is California, after all. She would be elevated to some sort of celebrity cult status. Sigh.

I want her sleeping on the cold cement, without food, except what she gleans from dumpsters, after scraping off maggots.

BBM:

As per, I like the way you think....d'you suppose we could petition the warden to remove her cot from her cell?

It doesn't address the dietary changes, but it would be a start.

Guess it depends where you live. Wyoming considers 19 year old offenders as juveniles.
No, Wyoming's juvenile age is under 18. They also have the option of trying juveniles in adult court.

Ages of Juvenile Court Jurisdiction

The age of a youth who comes within the jurisdiction of the state’s juvenile courts is defined by state law. In Wyoming:

  • Juvenile court has jurisdiction over offenses alleged to have been committed prior to a child’s 18th birthday; after age 18, the youth is charged in adult court, Wyo. Stat. Ann. §§ 14-1-101, 14-6-201;
  • “Unless sooner terminated by court order, all orders issued under the [Juvenile Justice Act] shall terminate with respect to a child adjudicated…delinquent, when [they] reach[] 21 years of age.” Wyo. Stat. Ann. § 14-6-231(c)(ii).

Let her rot in the hell she has created for herself.
Opinion only.

Hey, Tuff, this isn't directed at you at all, as I'm sure it was Crazy Charlie who referred to them as "the girls," but let's call them what they were: women.

They weren't "girls" any more than Charlie or Tex were "boys."

Referring to LVH & the other females who participated in the LaBianca murders as "girls" is a subtle way of minimizing their culpability for their actions.

LVH had reached the age of accountability. She was an adult.

JMO.
Crazy Charlie and all his minions need to die in prison where they belong.

Back then, Hippies referred to themselves as Freaks. It still fits.

I don’t think they can be called hippies. They are murderers.

I am reading the story by the youngest family member, Dianne Lake. It is nauseating. Charlie was like a god to them.

According to her, it sounds like the murderers loved what they were doing and Leslie had no clue if Rosemary was already dead.

I am not done with the book but I highly recommend it to see about the daily life of the cult.

It seems like the people who stayed with Charlie all had issues. They were not your average middle class person

Leslie Van Houten was granted parole on January 30. This is the third time the California parole board has recommended she be paroled. Jerry Brown reversed the board the previous two times. Unless Gavin Newsom reverses it, Leslie Van Houten will be a free woman this year.

Nope. Keep her locked up for life. No parole for people initially given the DP. JMO.

California governor won’t free Manson follower Van Houten

June 3, 2019

"SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom overruled a parole board’s decision to free Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten on Monday, marking the third time a governor has stopped the release of the youngest member of Manson’s murderous cult.

Van Houten, 69, is still a threat, Newsom said, though she has spent nearly half a century behind bars and received reports of good behavior and testimonials about her rehabilitation.

“While I commend Ms. Van Houten for her efforts at rehabilitation and acknowledge her youth at the time of the crimes, I am concerned about her role in these killings and her potential for future violence,” he wrote in his decision. “Ms. Van Houten was an eager participant in the killing of the LaBiancas and played a significant role.”..."

Let her continue to do her good work in prison- where she belongs forever. IMO....:D

LVH must be the only one who forgot that she initially was given the Death Penalty...She's lucky to be alive, IMO, unlike her victim, Rosemary LaBianca; she went along for the ride, fully knowing what would probably happen. She could have refused to go with that bunch of folks that night, but she didn't. She had a choice that Leno and Rosemary never had.
Sleep well, Leslie, you're doing all right just where you are.
