When I was in High School , I was involved in a debate on this topic and I used that very example. So true Jbean. I think as adults we lose credibility with our youth when we contradict ourselves. Making laws that can't reasonably be enforced. Imagine when troops come home from tours, the young single guys hitting the bars their first night out having a beer, defended our country, then haul him to jail for buying and drinking a beer.
Interstingly, when I was a youth, we were allowed to drink beer and wine at ages 18-19 and 20. But no hard alcohol until 21.
As the mother of kids between the ages of 15 and 25, I have to admit I am glad that the legal drinking age is 21. The risk is too huge and these kids just make me nuts with their drinking!
