You know the old saying, war is the Americans way of learning their geography
:p

I'm not bashing any one [American] here, but as a country I think you have a huge karmic debt.

Oh btw Tis, the thread goes where it goes, I was responding to something someone said in one of their posts, I'm pretty sure that's acceptable :)

Not all Americans voted for President Bush or wanted to go into Iraq.

Our American leaders took us into Vietnam, almost before alot of us knew what was happening.

But I imagine there are some places that were glad to see American planes - Bosnia, for instance, Afghanistan, Kuwait.

Sure is nice we all stopped ole' Hitler wasn't it? Alot of American lives were lost.

It's easy to bash Americans these days, but they are not all representive of their government or any particular war.

A couple weeks ago my son stated that one of his friends, who is now a marine, told him that North Korea is "next." I told him that is possible..... but from a military standpoint - Syria and Iran are more probable.

Iraq, Syria, Iran, Somalia and North Korea. These 5 countries were labeled the "Axis of evil" by the Bush administration. The same administration said it will take 27 years to beat the war on terrorism.

I personally didn't vote for Bush nor did I think it was in our best interest to march up the middle of Iraq and squat. But that is the path our country chose to take so now we make the best of it. And it doesn't matter who is in office, at this point - Republican's or Democrats because we aren't leaving the Middle East. We are positioned and poised to act accordingly.

For those afraid we might get drawn in to this war.... we are already there.

The Prime Minister of Lebanon stated today that with the pounding they have already taken by Israel, their country has been knocked back 50 years. Well too bad, they should have taken appropriate measures and disarmed their homebred terrorists in the Southern part of their country. By not doing so they have actually jepardized their own government. It will implode and their will be a civil war if they are not careful.

What I find fascinating is that I've always heard Israel can hold her own against multiple mid east countries. Now I think we are going to see it. We are being conditioned by the U.S. media that some of the missiles have Iran's fingerprints on them. Iran gets these weapons to Lebanon via Syria.... and all bridges and roads into Syria just got blasted.

I would recommend everyone to fill up their gas tanks now, while it's still hovering the 3 dollar mark and keep it tapped off. They are saying by the end of next week it could be 4 bucks a gallon.

What I find amazing is that somehow this is going to get blamed on the current administrations choice to go into Iraq. Although I question whether that was the right choice, what is happening now,has nothing to do with the US policies. When will people wake up?!! This war is about the whole Western way of life vs radical Islamics. The Green Party could be in office and eventually we would get hit. What about Bali, what about London,Spain,India. The world needs to understand this or we will never defeat terrorism. Then the other wack job in Korea will join in just because, and we are in big trouble. The UN is about the most worthless bunch of crooks going. They are half the problem.
The rational people in the world need to ban together and cut the whole middle east off. Take a strong stance. Demand the religious leaders of the supposed peaceful religion speak out!! There aren't 72 virgins waiting in heaven. Murder of others and ones self is not honorable!

Totally agree, not a bush voter here, not a war lover, but we SUPPORT our troops, we show patriotism. If some confuse that with arrogance, so be it!

I don't want to get into a a big arguement here, but I take offense when people portray the US as an aggressor. When have we engaged in war to take over a country? Basically its been when we are being threatened or someone asks for our help. Would the world be the same today if the US didn't step in during WWII? Ask a Frenchman or an Englishman that lived through it.
Despite anyones views on Americans being arrogant, the world needs us,as we need the rest of the world. Slowly, but surely in the 1930s facists, and dictators took over Europe one country at a time and people chose to believe it wasn't going to affect them, but it did. I see the same thing happening now, only the enemy is even scarier with no regard for any "codes of war". I don't mean to be a reactionary here, but our whole way of life could change if we don't learn from history and get on the same page.

Well, the G-8 has come to an agreement, of sorts, chastizing the terrorists for starting it, and asking Israel to use restraint. No cease-fire as of yet.

Well you might not see it as bashing but since your not sitting on this side of the fence then I beg to differ, I do see it as bashing and quite frankly I am sick of it.

It must be nice to be "down under" there, where you don't have to worry about a missile coming into your backyard,

or a nuclear bomb coming into your port.

Oh, my goodness! One might come into your port! Who ya gonna ask for help??? Ghostbusters!????

Ok tisherself I found who it was ...........

Ambrose Bierce Born in a rural area of Meigs County, Ohio,
an American satirist, critic, poet, short story (horror) writer, editor, and journalist.

I remember him because 1 of my classes was Political studies. I was an adult student at Tafe 4 years ago (Tafe =similar to Uni).

You have a huge karmic debt because yes, you have helped different nations at different times but more than often you have helped yourselves!
I get that you don't understand why the rest of the world perceives you the way it does, but it sees you that way for good reason.
Yes you saved Europe and the rest of the world because you came in late when other countries were exhausted basically then used that post war power to become the superpower.
America invades other countries under the guise of freedom and democracy, then exploits them and their resources.
The amount of war crimes that your country is responsible for far outweighs that of any other country.
America is greedy and looks after itself, it's that simple.

I had no idea there were bad feelings between Australia and the US, in fact thought they both supported each other as close allies. Hmmmmm

Anyway, was thinking tonight, should I sell my Iranian antiques now or after somebody bombs Iran and we are in the thick of it over there too!

Scandi

PS: I'm trying to be a bit facetious {sp} about the antiques to lighten the mood you know, and since my parents bought them when the Shah was in power, guess I'll keep them!
