Looks like war. . .

It must be nice to be "down under" there, where you don't have to worry about a missile coming into your backyard,

or a nuclear bomb coming into your port.

Oh, my goodness! One might come into your port! Who ya gonna ask for help??? Ghostbusters!????
Who says we dont have to worry:waitasec: We are just as vunerable as any other country.
And yes, if we were attacked we would have to call for help, most of our troops are in Iraq...backing the Americans

And thanks for y'alls help. Don't worry, I'm not any happier about it than you are; you're preaching to the choir here.

I know it looks like I am anti America, but I'm not....
As a citizen of planet Earth, I don't condone half of what goes on here , I'm just telling it like it is!
Our government is shonky too :p

Hey I love America for as many reasons as I don't like it lol
When I come visit, I promise to have my little flag waving (so I fit in) and will not mention Vietnam, promise :D
I think that there is a lot of America bashing going on. That is okay though. Americans can take it. Some of us don't agree with what is going on either but it it happening. I think many, many of us are worried and that it is coming out in some not so pleasant ways.

You don't have to wag your flag or avoid mention of VietNam to fit in. I do have a flag hanging outside but it represents true freedom to me. I hate that so many people died during the horrible Vietnamese conflict and I cringe at how soldiers were treated for having to go there. I pray that the ones who have had to fight find peace.

I am very much anti-war. I also live in the South so I suppose that makes me a commie. I don't care.

I am so worried and upset about this war. I teach my children to love and respect people no matter what. Love, charity, compassion. These are supposed to be the important things in life. Yet, they are hated simply because of the country of their birth. This makes me very sad. To the point of tears.

Why, why, why do people teach hate? Why can't everyone just live and let live? Please let this stop.

That's a good post. If you're a commie in Tennessee, I hate to think what I am in Texas. :p

MT - Did you see the information that Tom'sGirl posted? Canada is indeed our largest supplier. ;)
It's amazing that many of our citizens -- and those in other countries -- don't know this and assume our largest supplies come from the middle east. :(
I'm glad that posters like you and tom'sgirl can help set the record straight.

Thank you :)

Thank you so much for attacking the Democrats in return for my honest compliment of both Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

I sense alot of anger here; but lo and behold we the Dems didn't make the present mess we are in.
It is my understanding that Democrats and Republicans alike who are elected officials into office voted FOR this war. Not all democrat or republican officials, but most of them. Right?
United we stand, divided we fall.
We're one nation, under you-know-who .... indivisible.
We are not to be divided. The only people trying to divide this nation are the people arguing against each other, against a unified nation.

We may not all agree on what our elected officials do, but we as a nation should be united and take the good with the bad. Yes, it's America and we are all entitled to our opinions. But damning everything doesn't do any good.

...America is greedy and looks after itself, it's that simple.
Hmmmm...Every country is looking out for its own best interest...Why does that make us any greedier than the next country? I also want to add that Hitler's crime of killing 6M+ Jews far outweighs any war crime that I can think of.

I for one am PROUD to be an American. I think that our country has the best standard of living and the most opportunity available to its citizens than any country on earth. Is that perception true? It doesn't matter because it is true to me.

I might add that it must be true to many others as people are beating down our door, so to speak, trying to get a piece of the American dream.

Excuse me, but if you go back and look at the original post, I'm not the one who damned anyone. Have you read this thread? I'm pro-Israel and pro-America.

My original post was about our respect in the world today, and had nothing to do with the Iraq war. I was complimenting President Reagan and President George H.W. Bush.

But if you want to make it look like something else, that's fine. Right, we do need to get together, especially regarding the present conflict in the Middle East.

Now, I think I'll go play with my Air Force One cards, which my Daddy brought me years ago. I always enjoyed them for gin rummy. :)

and we Americans certainly appreciate having Australia as an ally dingo. Not that all of us are happy with the war in Iraq, but we are all happy to have your country as our friend.

I hear you. We are very fortunate to be Americans. As such we have a responsibility with our power to uplift the world so to speak.

Not everyone feels "patriotic" per se. Surely we all feel passionately for our needs and the needs of others.

If I am "proud" of anything, it is not related to my country but to the opportunity I have as a human being who has been blessed with great fortune.

We give billions of dollars to help with aids, the tsunami, you name it. The United States does not have a history of just minding its own interests; far from it.

We went into Bosnia to stop a terrible slaughter; while Europe stood by and watched their neighbors do this.

By this assessment, China will soon be just looking out for their own interests, and that may well be. All countries do that to a certain extent, but we are now a global community and things should change.

I would recommend the book, "The World is Flat", by Thomas Friedman.

The amazing thing this morning, as per the New York Times, is that many Arab states are criticizing Hezbollah. That is a start.

We can only hope.

last year, Canada supplied about 16% of total Oil Imports for the USA;
Mexico supplied about 15% of the total,
Saudi Arabia about 14%..
Venezuela about 12%..
Nigeria about 10%..

OPEC/NON-OPEC import was almost 50/50,

roughly 22% of our total oil imports comes from the Persian Gulf States

Thanks for the link/

In the countries that are part of Opec, we are receviing the majority of the oil from Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Nigeria. Venezuela is not in the middle east.
Nigeria is in Western Africa. And Venezuela + Nigeria account for nearly 50% of the Opec total.

So thank you for posting that link :)
... it further asserts what many of us know:
The war in Iraq is not about oil ... we get it from many other places in mass quantity, not "mostly" from the middle east. In fact, less than 5% of the oil came over from Iraq!

I have been blessed, too. However, I am also proud of my country.
