Lovely bones movie

I have been waiting soo long for it to come out ,it's one of my favorite books but I could never imagine that a movie could do the book justice....well,I must say,I think it almost does....there are parts however that were left out that I feel were really important, like the mom having an affair with the detective,I think that part really showed how distraught the family was dealing with Susie being gone,I really wished they wouldn't have changed that in the movie....I also think the racism the indian boy and his family had to deal with after Susie went missing should not have been left out....but overall I think the movie captured the sensitivity, magic, darkness and yes,the humor of the book.....

this movie was great. really got to me, especially at the end. I loved the acting. I just wish they would hve included the background of mr harvey in the film.

When they got to the tree and the others showed up, that was it. I just cried like a baby!

oh a lighter note, my DH liked it and calls it that websleuths movie!

BBM: LoL LoL LoL!!!!!

yes, that's true Mr.Harvey's background was missing....really I think if i would not have read the book I would not have like the movie as much,if you don't already know the characters from the book a lot gets lost in the movie...I think it's just too short,it's a good movie but it kind of misses the point ....

I did not read the book...I just got home from seeing the movie...it was wonderful. No sobbing, very teary eyed....and the MEN...who were crying. I guess being on WS we are used to situation like this.....nothing really surprises us....

I have mixed feelings about going to see it. I loved the book, but it sounds like the movie deviates alot from the book.

On the other hand, the setting is my turf and the filming was all around here. I used to drive by one of the set neighborhoods almost every day to see what they were up to. It was fun to see the vintage cars.

'Here' came to my mind often throughout the movie especially in that scene you mentioned above cos many posters 'here' have referred to this same scenario mostly after the murder of a child..I honestly never believed it but now I'm thinking 2x about it.

I just saw the movie last night on the internet (yes! there is a free site with many of the recent theater releases) & thought it was amazing even tho the reviews have been mostly bad. :waitasec:

The acting was fab by all except MW..imho..I heard he was a last minute replacement but not sure if it's true.

Kewl! It was also fun to see how everyone looked in the 70's again..The clothes & hair styles were pretty realistic.

Fav character? Grandma..What a TRIP! lol

The book is truly incredible. It hooks you with the very first sentence.

I have been an avid reader my entire life, and come from a family of writers.

The Lovely Bones is without a doubt, one of my top ten all-time favorite books.

I just couldn't wait to see this movie after seeing the previews but then I found out there was a book. I like to read the book first before seeing the movie.

Well, a couple of days ago, I downloaded the book to my iPhone. I CAN NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!! It did hook me with the first sentence.

The only problem I'm having now is my battery life on my phone. lol

I'm sure I will finish it this weekend and try to see the movie sometime next week.

Like you, I love to read so I'm so glad I found out there was a book out there before I did see it.

Thanks.

I went to see it last night and really enjoyed it (as much as you can enjoy watching a movie about a child that's murdered). I think the young lady that played Suzie did a wonderful job.

It's been years since I read the book and while watching I kept thinking something was missing. Reading everyone's posts I now know what was left out of the movie.

I really want to read this and not see the movie first. If I see a movie I usually don't read the book, and I want to see the movie too so I have to get this book.

I read the book and it captivated me. Could not put it down.
I wanted to see the movie, but so far, I have not gotten up the courage. The trailer gives me intense chills and makes me cry/shiver.
I noticed it is on On Demand, so I really want to try to watch it.

Maybe I should get someone to watch it with me. Not really my DH's kind of movie.

I'm not sure 12 year old daughter should see it, any advice on that? She has been talking about seeing it since it first came out.
The book went into a lot of detail about the attack/murder. How is that scene in the movie? Is it really violent?

ETA: The movie has a great website. Chilling. Link: http://www.lovelybones.com/#home

FINALLY saw & cried the whole time-LOL- seriously though I was not disappointed and I think it was probably the best adaptation that couldve been done.LOVED IT just as much as the book even if both make me bawl the entire time! :)

Just got done watching the movie. LOVED it!!! Very emotional. I cried so much my whole face is puffy.
Although I had already read the book, the part where Lindsey is in Mr. Harvey's house and he hears her and starts running after her, almost made me have a heart attack. It's odd because I already knew she was gonna get away, but I still was very anxious and scared for her.
Great book, great movie.

I agree with the other posters who say the affair and the racism should have been addressed. IMO those were major parts of the story line.

But, all in all, I loved it.

And the scenery/special effects were amazing!

I could not get over Susy's eyes. They were stunning. The actress was wonderful. Very talented.

If you have not seen this movie, grab some tissues and order it on demand or rent the dvd. It's worth the 2 hours.

Now, how will I sleep tonight w/out seeing that evil face? Will have to snuggle extra close to hubby.

Goz - did you ever get a chance to see it? It's now on pay per view on my television (4.99), and I think at the rental store. If you wanna really go for it, you can buy it on Amazon.com.

Hugs,

Mel

Wow, my son and I just watched The Lovely Bones on PPV last evening....it was really, really good....Mark Wahlberg was excellent (as always!) as the broken hearted father. The actress who played Susy was amazing and yes, I agree, her eyes are so expressive and beautiful. She really has a captivating quality about her. Also, Stanley Tucci is unbelievably creepy in this film....he is such a great actor....I just don't think I can ever look at him in quite the same way again (!) but he really WAS so great in that part. Definitely two thumbs up all the way around!

I had been wanting to see this movie and it FINALLy came via Netflix! Of course I cried..That night I had a dream about my best friend that had passed away in 1997. She would have believed in an "in between" place. I have felt her near me so many times. She left a beautiful little girl behind that used to call me Aunt Ceci that I never got to see again due to an unwilling step-mother. WELL, I decided to look on Facebook and much to my surprise..THERE SHE WAS!! I found my girlfriends little girl..all grown up now. Haunting grey eyes just like her Mom! She accepted my friend request and I have gotten 2 emails from her..Coincidence? I don't think so!!

I saw the movie, I cried quite a bit. I would like to read the book. I had a close cousin that was taken away from me too soon. This movie reminded me of her alot.
