I want to give this baby a hug so bad.

I'm with you. I read this yesterday and as angry and appalled as I was I couldn't think of anything to say. Even after reading these boards there are some cases that just make you feel like someone has kicked you in the chest.

I just canNOT imagine in a million years WHY this woman left with the husband. Are you kidding me?! poor baby! I feel horrible for that little girl :(

I'm glad the mom at least took her to the hospital instead of letting the abuse continue until she ended up dead. Not that I think the mom should get a mother of the year award or anything but she may have saved the child's life. I definitely agree they should both be in jail.

Mr. James was wearing a stained Boston Red Sox T-shirt and a bloody bandage next to his left eye. He and Ms. Silveira exchanged quick glances in the courtroom but didn’t speak.
Assistant District Attorney Silvia Rudman sought protection for the two because of threats that have been made since the story became public on Tuesday.
The child suffered bites to her face and head that were so severe they horrified the staff at Children’s Hospital in Boston, who called the case one of the worst they had ever seen.
Eric Offley of New Bedford, the father of both the 3-year-old girl and a son by Ms. Silveira, sat in the courtroom along with some friends, tears running down his face during the proceedings.

I'm glad he was hurt during his arrest. I only wish she had been too. They deserve every threat they're getting and I only wish they weren't offered protection.

wouldnt it be nice if the mom had loved her child enough to have taken her to the doctor.... i mean yes the mother would still be a monster but i would like to think somewhere deep down she loved her child at least this much. seems not. http://kdka.com/topstories/topstories_story_186134722.html

New Bedford police began investigating the case in mid-May after the girl's maternal grandmother took her to Children's Hospital in Boston for treatment.

Officials at the hospital called it one of the most horrific cases of child abuse they had ever seen.

Also meant to add, once caught mom will most likely blame it on the boyfriend and abuse of herself and get the poor kid back in no time, only to hook up with some other loser who will abuse the child also, if not worse than the former.
http://kdka.com/video/[email protected] listen to her friends on the video. its not moms fault she was a victim.....:furious: :furious: :furious:

I don't care how scared or intimidated I was there is no way someone would do that to my child a second time or even the first if I was present. She disgusts me almost as much as the boyfriend does. I can't believe the biological father is making excuses for her too. I don't see any bite marks or wounds on her. As a matter of fact she looks pretty healthy.

  Injuries were caused from resisting arrest.
Snip:
Such a finding could result in the pair being held without bail for 60 days. They were arrested yesterday in a police dragnet on Route 140, and he was injured as he resisted arrest, police said.

Mr. James' court-appointed attorney sought protection for the two because of threats that have been made since the story became public on Tuesday.

Somehow, some way at some time, their "protective" custody won't mean a darn thing. They will get what's coming to them...I'm praying for it.

a little update http://www.boston.com/news/globe/ci...s/2007/07/too_much_destru.html?p1=MEWell_Pos4
NEW BEDFORD -- A doctor who contacted child welfare officials when she examined a 3-year-old with severe bite wounds testified today that the girl was so badly mutilated that she will never fully recover.
"She is essentially missing her top lip," Dr. Alice Newton said at a dangerousness hearing in New Bedford District Court. "I've never seen a child who is missing her upper lip."
Newton, the medical director of the child protection team at Children’s Hospital Boston, said that plastic surgery will not be able to repair the damage allegedly inflicted by her mother’s live-in boyfriend, Bryan M. James, 34.
"She will never have a normal appearing lip," Newton said. "There is too much destruction."
James and the girl's mother, Jessica Silveira, 26, were both ordered held without bail today for the next 90 days. They will be held at the Bristol County Jail.

Police and prosecutors said there were indeed numerous red flags signaling the toddler was in danger. On Jan. 5, a report was filed that Jayla’s father, Eric Offey, 33, a convicted sex offender, was having unsupervised visits with her and her 5-year-old brother.

Two days later, a New Bedford dentist called DSS saying that the girl had a human bite mark on her arm and an infected lip.

McClain said that the reports prompted an investigation into the abuse allegations that was closed on Jan. 15, after it was determined that Jayla “fell in the bathtub and was probably bitten by her sibling,” he said.

On Jan. 17, another DSS case worker was assigned to conduct an assessment of the family to determine if the agency needed to continue its “ongoing involvement.”

“The assessment never got completed,” McClain acknowledged.

If it were me, I would be brusied and beaten and bit trying to DEFEND my child! The picture of the "mother" does not show any brusing or biting on her FACE!

I am so saddened and tired of hearing of the abuses to our children. The laws are too leniant on "mothers" that allow abuse. If she could walk, crawl, talk (communicate) breath then she should have done something to protect her child!
