Is there an exact trial date set in December.

 • #782
Well I tried to search for a date and found none so it must not be set yet.
Did find something intersting though.
Conrad's father was one of the rescue tugs that rushed to the U S Airway flight that landed in the Hudson in N.Y. in 2009.

Is there an exact trial date set in December.

Carter’s Friday court appearance was her first since the Supreme Judicial Court on July 1 rejected her attorneys’ attempts to dismiss the charge against her.

The judge will hear the 21 discovery motions on Sept. 2. The motion to suppress will be heard Oct. 14.

“A police officer will come testify as to his questioning of Michelle Carter and whether or not they can use her statements against her at a trial,” Cataldo said.

Thanks Dexter. I have no idea why that did not come up for me or I just plain missed it! I hate to say it but I can see this girl getting off, just a feeling and I hope I am wrong.

IMO It could go either way in a trial. I think there is enough outrage regarding, not only her texts, but her and her lawyer's attitude as well. She could have texted or called his mother to get him help. She even says things to that effect in her texts. She knew she could have helped. But instead of helping, she was texting friends about her worry, etc. Phony!. Then she texts the Mom pretending to be distraught and encouraging; "You did all you could, I did all I could, etc."

The judge has denied all attempts at dismissal, mental evaluation, etc., and she will go to trial. I see a guilty verdict, but honestly I don't think the statute the state is using will hold up to appeal.

Yes all true. I just can not in my wildest dreams imagine both helping and forcing someone to commit suicide especially when he was trying to chicken out. He did not have a terminal illness where he was going to suffer for a prolonged period of time.
Both healthy young people with no reason to die. Conrad could have been a wonderful productive adult if he had continued with the mental help that he needed. But no, he got wrapped up with this vixen. And it makes me wonder what their verbal conversations were like? LE has the texts but I am sure there were many conversations between the two of them. And i wonder how many of her friends have stuck by her side now that much of what she has done has come out.A very sad situation and I feel she is very at fault. Honor student, blah blah but she is old enough to know better. Just what was she thinking to proceed to do such a thing.

Her behaviour and her urging him to see it through, would make some small amount of sense to me IF there was a suicide pact and they would both be dead but this, this is just disturbing.

Surely a jury will be just as disturbed as us? After all, te texts are black and white evidence.

I lost my wife to suicide 4 months ago yesterday. I would have done ANYTHING it took, including bodily picking her up and dragging her to hospital if I had any clue what she was going to do. I can't imagine what possessed MC to claim that she loved Conrad and yet text and text and text him asking him when he was going to kill himself and why hadn't he done it yet, never mind telling him to get back in the effing truck!

If I had found out someone had been texting my wife telling her to jump before she did I would have to be held back. Conrad was vulnerable because of his mental state. She convinced him that his family would be ok with him gone. People who are that mentally ill can be made to believe anything. Had she not badgered and badgered him I don't think he would have gone through with it.

My feelings of fury at MC are simply indescribable. She could have got him help. Yet she was the one who was bringing up suicide and implying that he was stronger by killing himself rather than letting his family know. Rest in peace Conrad. Your time wasn't up young man, you should still have been here.

I'm sorry for your loss. I agree with everything you said. MC is an evil, empty, heartless, cold, uncaring, selfish soul. It breaks my heart that people don't or can't understand that with the right medication and support things really do get better. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Yes they did live towns away from each other and I do not know how they hooked up. Does anyone?
I get a sick feeling thinking of Conrad in his terrible final moments, thinking of his family etc.
Also anything she both said and did after it happened was to cover her a$$. Another one that knew exactly what she was doing. TERRIBLE.

Not sure if this has been answered but the two met when their families had both been vacationing in Florida at the same time. They remained in contact after that vacation.

Lawyers want Michelle Carter’s statements to police kept out of texting suicide trial

"Lawyers for a woman who sent her boyfriend text messages encouraging him to kill himself will argue that the jury at her manslaughter trial should not be allowed to hear about statements she made to police
A judge has scheduled a hearing for Friday on the request from lawyers for 20-year-old Michelle Carter."

Carter: “No, you’re not, Conrad. Last night was it. You kept pushing it off and you say you’ll do it, but you never do. It’s always gonna be that way if you don’t take action. You’re just making it harder on yourself by pushing it off. You just have to do it.”

This is almost laughable if it were not so horrid. This young idiot needs to pay a price for what she has caused. I truley feel that Conrad would be alive today if not for her insistance. He would have got the help he needed, he had just so much going for him.

What really strikes me about this case is that she had plenty of opportunity to get him help, instead she was telling people she didn't know where he was all the while texting him.
If she does not go to jail then anyone is free to take such advantage of a vulnerable person for their own attention seeking gain which is exactly what she was doing. That is NOT protected free speech!

A person wanting to commit suicide just does it. Often they seem better just before as they are at peace and made that decision leaving loved ones baffled.

Someone who wants help talks about it, goes through failed attempts thinking they have no options, expresses fear of death and honestly are pleading for help like Conrad was.

I think she did this on purpose for attention. She wanted to be the "grieving" "friend"

Exactly.....but her defense team will pull out all the stops as we know.
I honestly do not think she will get jail but can only hope because she deserves it. We really never know which way these cases will go.
I learned a hard lesson after Casey Anthony so now I find myself so wishy washy on what actually the outcome will be.

Steleheart, my above post was directed to yours.
Strawberry what a way to get attention. If so she is a very sick little girl.

<snip>
"Police alleged that Roy was having second thoughts about taking his own life and that Carter encouraged him to go through with it.
In Taunton Juvenile Court Friday, her attorneys argued that police did not read Carter her rights before speaking with her, and that her phone and computer were accessed improperly. Therefore, they argued, a jury should not hear those statements."

<snip>
"A judge will now issue a ruling on whether Carter’s text messages to Roy can be included as evidence in her trial, which was scheduled to start in early December, but which could now be delayed."

ETA: This argument may well be ruled in favor of the defense. They had a warrant and she wasn't under arrest but thy did not present the warrant or advise her of her right to remain silent. A Miranda is not required and they did tell her she wasn't in custody but she still had a right to say nothing and request an attorney. She just didn't know that.
Oh Boy.
