Bampumim Teixeira murder trial begins in Boston | Daily Mail Online
UPDATED: 04:29 EST, 22 November 2019
The trial has begun for a former doorman who is accused of attacking a prominent British doctor and his MD fiancee in their South Boston penthouse, binding them with handcuffs and stabbing them to death.

Bampumim Teixeira, 32, looked on quietly, dressed casually in thermal shirt and yellow sweatpants, as the jury heard opening statements and witness testimony on Thursday in Boston.
[...]
Pappas said that during the day, while the couple were working, Teixeira snuck into their condo with 'implements of destruction' including knives, handcuffs, duct tape and pliers.

When Bolanos arrived home around 5pm, prosecutors say that Teixeira was already inside the condo waiting for her.

Around 6.30pm, Field arrived at the condo, where he must have been met with a horrific scene.

Over the next two hours, Field attempted to make a number of 911 calls on his cell phone, none of which lasted long enough to provide dispatchers with information.

Eventually, Field was able to text a friend who alerted police, and officers rushed to the penthouse.

Witness in Bampumim Teixeira trial describes doctor’s desperate texts for help – Boston Herald
November 22, 2019
One of two prominent doctors who were handcuffed by an intruder in their South Boston penthouse in 2017 sent desperate texts for help before he and his fiancee were bound and stabbed to death, witnesses testified Friday in the double-murder trial of Bampumim Teixeira.

Matthias Heidenreich, a Vertex scientist and friend of anesthesiologists Richard Field and Lina Bolaños, said he went to CVS around 7:30 p.m. on May 5, 2017, and found a series of text messages from Field on his phone when he returned home.

“Call 111,” read the first — an apparent reference to 911 — then “Gun man,” then “in house.” Five more texts followed, ending with a single word: “Serious.”

“At some point, I realized what it could mean,” Heidenreich said on the witness stand in Suffolk County Superior Court. “I decided to text Richard back and then got worried.”

When he got no response, his fiancee called the concierge at the Macallen Building on Dorchester Avenue, where their friends lived, and then she and Heidenreich took an Uber there and found police cars parked outside.

Man that is a shame that he didn't have his phone on him. I wish he would have called the police instead of just the building. But maybe it was already too late by then. That's awful.

I don't see any reports of this testimony on twitter. Doesn't seem to be any one reporter who is giving consistent coverage.

So upsetting that all of those dropped 911 calls didn't lead to any sort of additional investigation at the time. I guess not every Police Department has the same sense of urgency or access to the technology that could help save lives. I guess my assumption about Boston being technologically advanced in their Law Enforcement techniques was just that. . . an assumption. IMO

Back in court for day 3 of the
trial for the man accused of brutally murdering engaged doctors.

Back on the stand today is Matthias Heindenreich. He was a friend of the doctors and he was the person Dr. Field texted for help the night of the murders. He is being cross examined about how well he knew the victims.

Next person called to testify is Fabiana Fagundes. She is Heidenreich’s girlfriend and was with him the night he got the frantic text from Dr. Field.

Fagundes recalls that her boyfriend got texts messages from Dr. Field he had a puzzled look on his face. She says she was surprised or shocked by the word gunman.

She says she reached out to Dr. Lina Bolanos by text then phone call but did not hear back.

She said she then called the concierge at the doctors condo and told him to go check on them.

Fagundes said she and her boyfriend decided to go to the doctors condo and check on them

Prosecutor John Pappas shows Fagundes surveillance video from the lobby of the doctors condo building. She identified herself and Heidenreich in it. Now defense attorney is cross examining.

Defense Attorney Steven Sack asks Fagundes if she saw anyone being taken out of the building on a stretcher. She says yes. He asks who. She says she thought one of the Conceirge because he had on what looked like a black uniform.

Dr. Fields brother is sitting in the front row. His head is in his hands.

Next person called to the stand is Amanda Gibbs. She is Dr. Lina Bolanos’ godmother

Gibbs says she was there when the doctors got engaged. They were planning to marry in early 2018. You can hear crying from family as she testifies.

Gibbs says on May 5, 2017 she and her husband were watching the news. She says when the saw the incident on tv, they called police and found out the people killed were Lina and Richard.

Now prosecutor is playing a 911 call from that night. Family sobs loudly. Gibbs identifies voice on line as Lina

Defense Attorney gets up to question Gibbs. He asks how many times she had to hear the 911 call to identify Lina’s voice. She says a couple. She leaves stand teary.

Next person called to the stand is Zuruf Tongo. He is a Conceirge at the doctors building.

He was working on the night of May 5, 2017.

Tongo confirms he knew Dr. Field and Dr. Bolanos.

Prosecutor shows Tongo surveillance video of lobby that day. Tongo points out Dr. Bolanos.

There was a brief break then @bostonpolice officer Sean Wallace was questioned without the jury present. The attorneys arguing whether statements Bampumim Teixeira allegedly said in the building that night are admissible. The judge ruled they are..

Now jury is brought back into courtroom and testimony from Tongo resumes.

Prosecutor shows Tongo video from the garage lobby. Tongo identifies the man in it is Dr. Field.

Prosecutor asks Tongo if he was working around 8:20pm on May 5, 2017. Tongo says yes and then says he took a call from a non-resident saying she received a text from a resident about a gunman in the building.

Tongo goes on to say he called both Dr. Bolanos & Dr. Firld but neither answered. So he called 911.

Tongo says the first crew of police arrived and he called the elevator for the officers but did not go with them to the penthouse floor.

Tongo says non-resident who called showed up at building. They were all in the lobby and heard gunshots.

Defense is cross examining Tongo. He has identified the doctors in two surveillance videos but attorney Steven Sack questions him about how sure he was ... says videos are blurry and Tongo initially had problems id’ing then for police.

Teixeira has patted his stomach several times as his defense attorney asks questions of Tongo.

After a lunch break, the trial resumes with Officer Scott MacIsaac of @bostonpolice on the stand. He responded to the murder scene May 5, 2017.

Officer MacIsaac says he was the first police officer to get off the elevator on floor 11 that night. He describes the layout.

He says his gun was out of the holster and in the “low ready” position. This was because of the nature of the call : person with a gun.

Officer says as they approached penthouse A, they saw two packages and a set of keys on the floor.

MacIsaac says when he saw that scene, he interpreted that there had been a struggle.

MacIssac says it was raining that night and he had on a yellow raincoat. He says he took it off as not to be a target for a gunman. He then radioed to dispatch they were going in the condo.

MacIsaac says the police used the keys on the floor to enter the condo. Once inside, he says they announced themselves ... as they made their way through the apt home, he says a silhouette stepped out towards them

MacIsaac says the person’s arms were outstretched and hands met in the middle. He says it appeared the person had a gun. MacIsaac shows the stance with his body. He says they told him to drop the gun. He says the person walked towards him and MacIsaac fired his gun.

MacIsaac says he shot the person 3-4 times. The person then left the condo with MacIsaac following. He says several officers helped get suspect on the ground and cuff him.

MacIsaac identifies Teixeira in the courtroom as the suspect.

Now defense attorney is questioning MacIsaac. Attorney Sack asks about the officer banging on door and saying BPD. He asks about the officers route on the penthouse floor. He asks about the location of boxes outside the unit.

Sack asks MacIsaac if he saw a shiny object in the suspects hands. He answers yes. Sack asks did he order the suspect to “drop it”. MacIsaac says he does not remember doing that.

Sack says “you now know he did not have a firearm on him”. MacIsaac responds “I don’t know what he had in his hands but we did not find a firearm.”

MacIsaac says he sprinted down the corridor and caught up with suspect. Helped bring him to ground.

Attorney Sack asks MacIsaac if he went to the hospital after this incident. MacIsaac says “yes”, he went to @The_BMC for injury to his hand and stress related issues.

Now Officer Sean Wallace is testifying in front of a jury. He was questioned earlier without jurors present.

As the killer closed in, a man sent eight frantic text messages. It wasn’t enough.
November 25, 2019 at 3:57 p.m. EST
In the moments before his death, Richard Field sent eight desperate text messages.

“Call 111,” he wrote to Matthias Heidenreich around 7:30 p.m.

The messages that followed said:

“Gun man.”

“In house.”

“Serious.”

“Serious.”

“Serious.”

“Serious.”

“Serious.”

Heidenreich, a friend of Field and his fiancee, Lina Bolaños, returned home from CVS to find them waiting, unread, on his phone. By then, though, it was too late.
