Multiple agencies are on scene at the Woods at Long Pond for a search and rescue. There are no risks to the public. We are currently searching for an adult male. At this time we ask that the public and media avoid the area. Any media concerns can be directed to the Brimfield Police at 413-245-3442.

Brimfield Police Department

The search for today has concluded and will start again tomorrow morning with a focus on the area of Long Pond.

The missing person is Eric Malerbi, age 54. He was reported missing Friday evening. Eric is approximately 5’5 and about 140 pounds. It’s believed that he was last wearing a dark fleece jacket and blue jeans. He frequents places in both Brimfield and Sturbridge. Anyone with information is asked to call the Brimfield Police Department at 413-245-7222.

We have been assisted by numerous agencies each providing valuable man power and expertise. Special thanks to the Brimfield Ma. Fire Department, the Oxford Police Department, Sturbridge Fire Department, the Tolland County Dive Team, Massachusetts State Police dive team, the Warren Fire Department, the North Brookfield Fire Department, and the Monson Fire Department and many others.

Search in Brimfield for missing man enters third day
Crews were back out at Long Pond early Monday morning. It's now day three of the search both on land and in the later for missing 54 year old Eric Malerbi.
Malerbi was reported missing on Friday and one theory is that he may have fallen through the ice at Long Pond.

They have not released a photo of Malerbi yet, but we do know that he was last seen wearing a dark fleece jacket and blue jeans.

Brimfield police enter third day of search for missing man
People who live in Brimfield told 22News that people come to the Long Pond area for outdoor activities year round.
"Mostly ice fishing, but it's not really safe," said Roland McCurdy, noting that the pond isn't fully frozen. "No where is safe."
