I wouldn't discount it until LE comes out with more details... Cranberry Plaza in Wareham is the same direction as where his family thinks he went.
Barnstable to Wareham is a 2 hour bus ride with a transfer at Mashpee Commons.

Barnstable to Falmouth (where he was apparently trying to go) follows the same initial bus route except you don't switch buses in Mashpee. If he got confused on his bus routes he could have very well ended up in Wareham by accident.

Only thing is that the remains were 'covered in thick vegetation' which might suggest it had been there a while, but I guess if you just...flopped on a bush and fell through you'd be covered in vegetation too.

I guess I didn’t think 2 months = skeletal remains. But I’m not really familiar with the timelines of such things

Thanks for explaining the location etc
I am familiar with the area and thought of this missing person immediately when I got the news alert today

Also there is a homeless population in the immediate area as well as opioid related issues

true about the 2 months! if it was warm enough I could see near-skeletonization occurring in 2 months. I agree w/ you that I'm not sold on the UID being FB, with such little information it could be anyone.

for future reference, these are some PMI stats I think are useful!
SAGE Journals: Your gateway to world-class research journals
The 5 stage scale for exposed carcasses (likely tested w/ pig carcasses):
1. Fresh: no discoloration or insect activity (0–5 days postmortem)
2. Early decomposition: gray to green discoloration, bloating, postbloating rupture, skin slippage, hair loss (1–21 days postmortem)
3. Advanced decomposition: moist decomposition of tissues, sagging of flesh, caving in of abdomen, extensive insect activity, bone exposure of less than half of the skeleton, mummification (3 days to 18 months)
4. Skeletonization: bones with some body fluids present or tissue covering less than half of the skeleton, dry bones (2 months to 9 months)
5. Extreme decomposition: skeletonization with bleaching or exfoliation or metaphyseal loss or cancellous exposure (6 months to >3 years)

Decomposition - Wikipedia
Casper's ratio is also useful; "if all other factors are equal, then, when there is free access of air (eg on land) a body decomposes twice as fast than if immersed in water and eight times faster than if buried in earth."

Where is Floyd Black? Family searching for man who vanished 3 months ago
  1. It's been nearly three months since Floyd Black vanished.
  2. He was last seen in Barnstable where he was living at a shelter.
  3. He vanished after telling a roommate he was headed to Falmouth where his daughter, KB lives.
  4. KB says her father's prescriptions to treat his bipolar condition were canceled when he lost his health insurance over the summer.
  5. She believes without his meds, her dad is lost and deeply confused, possibly on the streets in the Boston-Cambridge area where she has passed out fliers and visited homeless shelters.
  6. KB says she's met two people who claim they have seen her father.
  7. Last week, the remains of an unidentified adult male were found in Wareham.
  8. KB is holding her breath, hoping it's not her father.
  9. KB will spend this coming weekend in the Boston area handing out fliers and talking to anyone who might know where her father is.
  10. As the weather turns colder, she knows she needs to find her father now.

Bump for Floyd. I hope his daughter and the rest of his family know by now if those remains are Floyd's. I haven't seen any updates since Pom's above.

Remains found in Hyannis woods identified as missing man Floyd Black

CONFIRMED: DECEASED
Human remains found in woods off Route 28 on Monday have been identified as Floyd Black, who had been missing since August.

The Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office confirmed the identification Thursday.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner now has jurisdiction of the case. There is nothing suspicious about the death at this point, Tara Miltimore, spokeswoman for the district attorney's office, said.

The matter is under investigation by Barnstable police and state police detectives assigned to the district attorney's office.
