Massachusetts State Police and other teams continued their search this week for Giuseppe Musto, 75, whose truck was located Sunday afternoon parked in a Department of Conservation and Recreation lot at Mount Washington State Forest.

Police have not resumed the search since Thursday, but will continue at some point, said state police spokesman David Procopio.

MOUNT WASHINGTON — It’s been more than a week since Giuseppe Musto headed to the Berkshires in his pickup truck, telling his wife he needed to take a ride.

“He went because he wanted to have a day out to refresh his head,” said Caroline Musto, reached by phone at the couple’s home in Boston. “He loved that place — he always wanted to go.”

That place is the forest and mountains in and around Mount Washington. But he didn’t tell her where he was headed, and he didn’t return on time.

(...)

Cellphone signals are of no use in this instance. Giuseppe Musto never brought his old-fashioned flip phone into these woods, where he’s hiked and hunted for 50 years, his son said.

“He’s not into technology,” Marco Musto said. “Whenever he would go hunting, he would leave that behind.”

(..)

The elder Musto moved to the U.S. from Italy 55 years ago, and is long retired from work in construction, Caroline Musto said. She said her husband has suffered with grief after a number of family members died over the last few years, including their grandson two months ago.

including their grandson two months ago.
<snipped>

I read the obituary for the grandson - he was very, very loved by all and only 28 years old. He was also the father of two, including an 8 month old. I hope Giuseppe is safe tonight. His great grandchildren will need him.

The last update I've found was from last May:
The family did not believe that Musto, a hunter, had brought a rifle or a cellphone. If he did have his flip phone, he would never have brought it into these woods, his son had said, while also pointing to the trouble with cellular signals here.

The family, Marco Musto said, continues to struggle with the loss and the uncertainty of not knowing what happened to his father.

Such a long hard wait for his family.
