Wowowowowowow

Okay—let’s not say anymore: “what’s wrong with men.” I saw a bunch of men behind that podium—exhausted, sad, filled with grim satisfaction that they got that b*****d with ten times as much evidence as it’d take to put him away for life. (My words, not theirs.)

By the way, the charge seems to be tougher than I’d realized: kidnapping resulting in death, which evidently carries the death penalty or life without parole.

Suspect charged in death of woman who vanished after leaving Boston nightclub

A Rhode Island man was charged with the death of a woman who vanished after leaving a Boston nightclub last month, federal authorities said Sunday.

The suspect, Louis D. Coleman III, 32, was charged with kidnapping resulting in death, said Andrew Lelling, United States Attorney for Massachusetts.

[...]

Coleman had been at the same nightclub as Correia, Lelling said, and surveillance video captured them interacting at 2:15 a.m.

Authorities didn’t say if they knew each other. Lelling declined to say if Correia got into Coleman’s car willingly, adding only that she got into the sedan “on her power.”

“She could walk,” he said.

[...]

It wasn’t clear what happened between the club and Coleman’s apartment. Lelling said investigators were still determining the route Coleman allegedly took home.

Coleman later went to WalMart and bought three Tyvek suits, duct tape, an odor respirator and bleach, Lelling said. He was also seen wheeling a large suitcase into his apartment, then wheeling it out on Feb. 28 and lifting it into a truck, Lelling said.

It wasn’t clear why Coleman drove to Delaware, Lelling said.

When Coleman was stopped by Delaware State Police, Coleman allegedly said "she's in the trunk," Lelling said. Authorities found Correia’s body bruised, bound in duct tape and wrapped in a sofa cushion cover that appeared to be missing from Coleman’s apartment, Lelling said.

“There are indications that she did not go quietly,” Lelling said.

Lelling said Correia appeared to have died from blunt force trauma and strangulation.

Coleman could face the death penalty or a mandatory life sentence if convicted, Lelling said.

Amazing work by LE across multiple agencies.

I found it interesting that the US Attorney, Andrew E. Lelling, said camera footage at his apartment showed Coleman carrying a body, rather than Jassy.

It makes me wonder if the authorities now believe she was already deceased by the time he took her back there. I also noticed Mr. Lelling said it was about two hours after Coleman and Jassy were seen in downtown that they arrived at the apartment.

Contrary to earlier reports, the body was not dismembered or mutilated.

However, LE also found inside his car a pair of pruning tools, a butane lighter, a gas container, a pair of pliers and more. I’m glad they caught him when they did.

“Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney’s Office
District of Massachusetts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sunday, March 3, 2019”

“[SBM]

BOSTON – Louis Coleman III has been charged today in federal court in Boston with the kidnapping of Jassy Correia, who had been missing since Feb. 24, 2019.

Coleman, 32, of Providence, R.I., has been charged with one count of kidnapping, resulting in death. Coleman was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, in Delaware and will appear in federal court in Delaware on Monday, March 4 at a time to be determined. He will be transferred to Massachusetts at a later date.

According to the charging document, after learning of the disappearance of Correia, law enforcement reviewed surveillance tape from outside of the Venu nightclub, the last place Correia had been seen by her friends, which showed Correia leaving the area and entering a vehicle with a man later identified as Coleman. Surveillance footage from Coleman’s Providence, R.I., apartment building showed Coleman, at about 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, parking and exiting the vehicle, and then returning a short time later carrying a blanket. He then walked from the car to the front of the building carrying a body with long hair and clothing consistent with the description of Ms. Correia. Once he entered the building, surveillance video showed Coleman dropping the victim on the floor and dragging her towards the elevator, and subsequently towards his apartment unit. The victim was not moving and her body was limp.

It is alleged that on Feb. 26, 2019, surveillance video from the defendant’s apartment building showed Coleman enter the apartment building with Walmart shopping bags. Law enforcement subsequently obtained video surveillance and a receipt from a Walmart in Providence, R.I., that revealed Coleman had purchased three Tyvek suits, duct tape, two candles, electrical tape, one mask, surgical gloves, two pairs of safety goggles, an odor respirator and CLN release bleach bath.

At approximately 9:58 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2019, Coleman is seen on video surveillance entering the apartment building with what appeared to be a new, large suitcase. At 1:15 a.m., on Feb. 28, 2019, Coleman is seen in the video wheeling the suitcase away from his apartment unit towards the elevator, eventually out of the building and into the parking lot where his vehicle was. Coleman appeared to have difficulty lifting the suitcase into the trunk of his car.

Additional surveillance video showed Coleman on several occasions exiting his apartment building with other items, including trash bags, cardboard boxes, a bottle of bleach, a laptop case, a computer tower and a small duffle bag.

Later in the day on Feb. 28, 2019, a search warrant was executed at Coleman’s apartment, where two packages of hooded coveralls and two respirator masks were recovered. A sofa with four large cushions, one of which was missing a cover, was also observed. In a dumpster outside of the apartment complex, white trash bags, a bag containing plastic sheets, men’s jeans with bleach stains and a belt, a white nylon hooded coverall, an empty box of baking soda, clear safety goggles, a respirator mask, duct tape packaging, rubbing alcohol, Walmart bags, used plastic gloves, an empty package from a car air freshener, three empty packages of purifying charcoal and a sponge were recovered.

On the afternoon of Feb. 28, 2019, Coleman’s vehicle was stopped by Delaware authorities on I-95 South near Wilmington, Delaware. Officers ordered Coleman out of the vehicle and asked him if anyone else was in the vehicle with him. It is alleged that Coleman stated words to the effect: ‘She’s in the trunk.’

[SBM]

A duffle bag, a pair of new long-handled loppers, plastic garbage bags, clothing, a red plastic gas container, a green butane lighter, black gloves, charcoal air purifiers, air fresheners, tinted safety glasses, plastic Walmart bags, work towels, cloth work-gloves, a new set of DeWalt pliers, a laptop, a computer hard-drive/tower, and disinfectant wipes were also recovered in Coleman’s vehicle.

It is further alleged that photographs of the defendant’s vehicle depict a windshield that is cracked in two locations on the passenger side and a white substance, believed to be baking soda, in the trunk of the vehicle.

Coleman was taken into custody and transported to a Delaware State Police barracks. There, it was noted that Coleman had a large bandage on the right side of his face. When asked about it, he allegedly replied, It’s from the girl.“

The charge of kidnapping resulting in death provides for a sentence of death or life in prison.
Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

[SBM]

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kenneth G. Shine and Robert Richardson of Lelling’s Major Crimes Unit are prosecuting the case.

Pliers? Loppers? Garbage bags?

I really don't think Jassy is his first murder. Someone earlier mentioned how on his site, he wrote of "helping people with insomnia" being a lifelong dream, and perhaps he was using Jassy as a "subject". Makes me really wonder.

Cracked windshield? Did he kill her in his car between Boston & Providence?

Has there been any follow up on the Brockton murders?

I'm glad she fought back. I hope it gets around in prison that she messed up his face. Poor Jassy.

Shown on surveillance carrying her in early morn the 24th. They caught him the 28th. What was he doing all those days? Googling what to do with her body? I'd love to know what was on that laptop and tower he was running with.

He bought the most elaborate array of "tools." SO SO glad he didn't use them.

Maybe it was his own conscience "knocking on the door" that kept him from fleeing earlier.

RIP Jassy

I find it REALLY bizarre he apparently brought her body into his apartment, and kept it for days.

The part about dropping her, and dragging her to the elevator!??! What on earth would he have said/done if a neighbor had also been taking dog out, heading for a 5am gym routine, etc?

That but makes me wonder what his original plan was? Did she try to escape the car, and he freaked out?

All of the info in the link IMHO provided above leads me to think he is NOT a Ted Bundy type.
There have been serial killers that work where they eat before, John Wayne Gacy comes to mind, but that was well before there were cameras everywhere, and he had a house.

There is a shocking amount of video! He's clearly not an idiot, he had to know there was video.

Did he want to get caught?

It sounds as if she may have been dead before he even arrived at his apartment. What time was she seen going to his car from Venu? (ETA - left the club at 12:15AM , LC is seen carrying her into his building at 4:15AM)

If she was already dead - WHY TAKE HER TO HIS HOME? Good lord. Video of him putting her on a bus bench and leaving her would be less incriminating than everything that was captured.

He bought the supplies afterwards, which leads me to believe this wasn't planned.

This is a weird one.

Understand your point and hope there are not more victims out there. Agreed, technology has made it harder in one sense, but has shifted crime more on sex workers, illegals, marginalized individuals and people that slipped thru the cracks. The Ted Bundy reference refers to the high level of intelligence of the individual that was unhappy with some aspect of his life. The troubling aspect of going to Walmart after the fact to buy materials lends itself this might be one time deal.. hopefully..

Where did you see he bought the things from Walmart in advance? I only saw this:

'It is alleged that on Feb. 26, 2019, surveillance video from the defendant’s apartment building showed Coleman enter the apartment building with Walmart shopping bags. I made the leap that he had purchased the items after she was in his home, though he could have had the bags in his car already and just brought them IN on 2/26.
corrected in my post, your points are valid.

I'm curious about how his computer and laptop play into this as well. My initial thought was that he was searching for what to do/how to dispose of her, but there would still be a trail of those searches even if the hardware had been destroyed (I think).

It sounds as if he was taking everything somewhere to burn. Why the computers?

Possibly thought if his home was raided to remove evidence that could be scanned.. probably running scared..

This IS weird.

If not planned in advance, maybe this is some sort of a hook up/one night stand gone terribly wrong? Maybe she accepted a ride back to where she was staying in Lynn,he got weird, she changed her mind about him, and he then became violent?

I thought I read her shoes and phone were found at her "apartment" ? Does anyone remember reading that?

There's at least an hour missing from the time the left the club, allowing drive from Boston to Providence.

I Agree.
I think that after she got into his car at the club they went to her friends house. That might be where she was killed or drugged and he carried her out forgetting to gather her items she removed. Then he took her to his house which is shown in the video.
