***NEW TRIAL*** - Jury selection begins today in MA v. Dr. Ingolf Tuerk. The Massachusetts urologist is charged with felony murder in the 2020 death of his wife, Kathleen McLean. Tuerk allegedly strangled his wife to death and her body was found in a pond a half mile from their home. In this case, a little Karen Read cross-over as it involves Michael Proctor in a small way. He was involved in the investigation, however in yesterday's hearing, we learned his role was minimal, ie: standing outside a room when it was searched, etc..

I watched the first day of the trial. From opening statements, it appears that Tuerk's defense is that he did kill her, but only because he was in a state of extreme emotion caused by the fact that they were drinking and (according to him) she hit him first. He then went into "fight or flight mode" and panicked and put her body in the pond. His defense attorney seemed to suggest that this was not first degree murder but voluntary or even involuntary manslaughter.

One quote from the defense's opening: “Those hands saved hundreds of lives and took one."

Don't know if there is a rolling eyes emoji but if there is one, imagine it here.

In opening statements, Tuerk’s lawyer admitted the doctor took his wife’s life, but not the way the prosecution claims.

The prosecutor described a fight the couple had at their home in Dover in May 2020.

“She wouldn't let the past go, like, she agreed. And so, he put his hands around her neck,” said prosecutor Lisa Beatty.

Beatty said Tuerk told police that he strangled McLean and then dumped her body in a pond, weighed down by two large rocks in her pants pockets.

DAY 1- 3/27/25

  • The prosecution began their opening statement by reading a text message Tuerk sent a friend, calling his wife a “vindictive devil” who “played us all.” Tuerk was taken to a hospital after authorities found him with injuries during a welfare call. Prosecutors argue Tuerk strangled McLean to death during an argument and sank her body in a pond.
  • The defense argues Tuerk grabbed McLean after she smashed a glass over his head, admitting that sinking her body was a “bad move.”
  • Vannessa Pettigrew, a friend of McLean, testified about the couple’s relationship timeline. Pettigrew met McLean in 2015, and later became colleagues at the same hospital as Tuerk (referred to as Harry).

    • Pettigrew testified that she received concerning text messages from Curt Pfannenstiehl and went looking for McLean.
    • On cross-examination, the defense focused on instances of McLean monitoring Tuerk’s activities, including tracking him through a phone app and her concerns about him dating others during their separation.

The case of a Dover doctor accused in the 2020 murder of his wife returns to court again on Monday as he seeks to get rid of his defense attorney and represent himself against the charge at trial.

Guess this was a short-lived request! What a narcissist. JMO

Just after 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning, a friend of Kathleen McLean and her husband, Ingolf Tuerk, received a text message from Tuerk: “I am sorry brother but she is a vindictive devil, she played us all, I am really sorry brother, but she manipulated us all love you Harry.”

The recipient shared the text with other friends of McLean, and McLean’s ex-husband contacted police later that morning to report that she was missing.

The last time she’d been seen was with Tuerk, who used the nickname Harry and was once a well-known surgeon in the Boston area recognized for his use of robotic surgery, around 1 a.m. in their home at 29 Valley Road in Dover.

The following day, police allegedly received a confession from Tuerk, that he had strangled McLean to death and dumped her body in a pond near the home.

Now, Tuerk is being charged with murder. He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Monday. He’s being held without bail with his next court date set for June 10, according to the Norfolk district attorney’s office.

The most dangerous time in a relationship is when the woman is trying to leave. Sorry for Katie and her children that she failed to escape safely. I also think many abused women fell through the cracks during COVID. :(

‘One of the most amazing people’

Among her friends, McLean is being remembered as someone who had a passion for Reiki — she operated her own business, Birch Tree Energy Healing — and who loved helping others.“Anyone you can ask; she was one of the most amazing people,” Danielle Boland, one of McLean’s friends, told MassLive. “She spent days of healing and helping people.

He was very, VERY grateful to get off the stand.
Goodness, this defense attorney is going hard at the ex-husband, too. What is the point?
IMO.
