Found Deceased MA - Kim Kelly-Oberhauser, 56, Lowell, 18 Jan 2021

  • #101
Another strange finding is the law firm that she has/had ownership in, hasn’t posted anything about her missing. On the day she went missing, the office was just making posts, like it was business as usual. They haven’t mentioned her once? The company’s last post was yesterday. I’ve attached the post that was made on the day that she was reported missing. To be fair, there is an option to schedule posts, but even so, the behavior of anyone that’s represent the firm is bizarre and them not making mention of her being MIA is highly questionable in my opinion. https://twitter.com/oberhauserlaw?s=21

Strange.
I'm surprised that MSM hasn't made any comments one way or the other. You'd think they would be in contact with LE on a daily basis, trying to get the story, and would mention even of the police had no comment.

There's only one explanation that makes sense to me, and this is speculation.
If this woman is being treated for something medically, HIPAA laws would prohibit anyone from disclosing that. Which means....

Law Enforcement wouldn't be able to disclose any information relating to her mental health unless she is still a missing person. That would include disclosing any hospital she may be at, if that's the case.

Any business associate, or business contract wouldn't be able to either. (The law firm)

The same holds true for the media.

To be fair: On January 20, the law firm retweeted a missing persons post from the Lowell PD concerning Kim's disappearance.

Yes, and the vehicle was found and pulled from the river on January 22, when MSM reported they were asking the police about her and stating they would report back. Then silence. Could it be she was in a hospital someplace? Checked in without leaving a contact number of someone in the family?
Maybe staying at a friends house and decided to notify a family member once the car was found?
I believe they were looking for her before the car was found, and then she was no longer a missing person for whatever reason. I believe she's somewhere getting medical attention, but it's just a guess.
Maybe someone here can give us a reason as to why the family, the police, the law firm, and the media are not saying a word after LE made a public announcement about her being missing, then not a word. HIPAA is the only thing I can think of.

I feel like that in that situation, LE would be obligated to issue a short statement saying she's been located and thanks everyone for your concern with no other details.

This may sound kinda stupid but could this have any connection to Susan Willand who also went missing a bit ago? They're from around the same area, Susan's body was found in the same river where Kim's car was, their appearance description on their missing posters were almost exactly identical and they both left everything at home (except for Kim who took her car).

You have a good memory. I remember Susan's case. I never learned exactly what happened but I believe she wandered from her home one morning disoriented, across a ball field and ended up in the river near some sort of boat ramp. I'm not sure what caused her to be disoriented though people speculated. I don't feel like there's a connection with Kim but I've been wrong before.

If I lived nearby, say in Chelmsford or Lowell, I'm pretty sure I'd be calling: Lowell PD, Local newspaper and even the Law firm that retweeted the missing person's post. I'd probably say something like.... "I am a local resident concerned about Kim's disappearance. Has she been located?"

Thank you -my apologies I missed that post? Was that on Twitter or another platform? I suppose it it doesn’t change anything, but thank you for correcting me.

Agree. One would think the PD would say something, anything, even if it’s short and to the point, so that the public isn’t worried that there’s a murderer on the loose or that she’s been abducted.

As I've previously stated, I think this is most likely a suicide based primary on the (non) reaction of LE, press, and family plus her pending divorce.
However, it is possible that we have a crime here. I feel like the two top motives for violent crime are love and money and we've got some of each in this case. Absent a suicide or a crime motivated by money or relationships, we could have reason to worry locally as suggested by @Chelly.
I also wonder about life insurance....

My point was if I was a "local" I could justify an inquiry to authorities by revealing that I was a resident of the area and concerned about Kim's disappearance. I doubt I'd have "reason to worry".

Just something to think about. Just because there is no visible indication of a search still going on does not mean that the LE isn't working on the case. My experience with this is with my own father who went missing in the winter; there was a lot of media coverage for a few days when his car was found and then nothing for a month when he was found. There was an active search still being done without media coverage the entire time. The LE has to do their job but what they know isn't always something they can put in the media.

Thanks for input @Genealogy lady . Your posts as a VI are especially welcome and appreciated.

Appreciate that perspective. I am sorry to learn that you’ve been through this as well.

This twitter was released by the Lowell Police Dept. last night:
No signs of foul play as search for missing Lowell woman continues

What are the thoughts on this?
I believe it, but I’d have more confidence if the police would announce a bit more detail on the investigation to date. So we would know it’s not just an absence of data.

Eg. While the investigation remains open and active, surveillance footage, dozens of interviews, and digital and phone records analyzed to date have thus far given no indication of foul play.
