Its so hard to comprehend the rising numbers of death R/T stabbings, shootings, beatings, etc. I know I'm older than I feel, mentally, but I remember it was a real shock when I was in Jr. High and High School if somebody got in a fist fight and somebody came out bleeding. Now, that's considered minor. My son and a friend went to sign up for the service when they were 20, and he said there were two others there whom they neither one knew. Roger said they tried to stir up something there, and he and his friend just ignored them.
Later that eve, the troublemakers got behind them and deliberately hit the back of the PU. By then, Roger had had enough. They got out ready to fistfight, and the other two got out with tire irons! They got back in the PU, and pulled into a busy, well lit store, and the other two drove off. The next day, they went early to the recruiter's office and told them about what had happened. When the recruiter and other staff heard about that, they told the troublemakers they were not acceptable candidates for armed svs. I was happy to see it end that way, and nobody got hurt. We never found out why this transpired in the first place. And now, 16 years later, we hear alot about random people being targeted for no particular reason.
I almost dread the fact that I have two grandsons in their teens, and soon to be three. I guess all I can do is pray they won't get hurt, or worse for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
