I remember Alan Jackson when he was a prosecutor in California-----
I respect him and believe he would not represent a defendant if
He believed she was guilty

A defense attorney never asks his client if they’re guilty. That’s not their job. Had Karen Read confessed to him, he could not put on this defense.
There is no shame in being a defense attorney, even for the guilty. Our system requires a vigorous defense. It’s a noble job and someone has to do it.
It’s not personal

I understand what you are saying, but what I believe is that defense attorneys evaluate
Their client and decide if they think their client is guilty whether the client confesses or not.
I am saying that IMO Alan Jackson would not represent this woman if he believed she was
Guilty.

Then he’d have no clients
A defense attorney would starve to death only defending the innocent.

So attorneys just represent every case that comes to them? There's no defense lawyer who declines to take a case?

Guilty or not guilty every single defendant in the US is entitled to a defense attorney.

It's silly to claim no attorney asks his/her client about what actually happened, including whether the crime was committed as alleged. Of course they do. But even if the client confesses, they're still entitled to the best defense their attorney can provide.

In this case, it seems Read's attorneys are quite convinced of her innocence, with Alessi working free of charge.

There is enough crime and defense atty's around to snap up dollars. I know a few well. They do ask and need to know, whether they fully believe their client or not, easy to tell in the short run. Sure there are some on here to add in if they like, people that actually KNOW as well. Not starving.

Defense attorneys are bound by ethical rules and professional conduct codes, such as those outlined by the American Bar Association (ABA) in the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. If a client confesses to their attorney, the attorney cannot knowingly present a defense based on lies or fabricated evidence.

Specifically, Rule 3.3 prohibits lawyers from knowingly making false statements of fact to a tribunal or offering evidence they know to be false.”

Publicity is often the reason lawyers take cases -imo

THOSE particular lawyers, no. :) They are all pretty WELL set for long time in their profession if you read their professional backgrounds, if you have not come across their names and cases, but.

If their client confesses they can not create a false narrative.
Their job becomes poking holes in the prosecutors case.

I believe Jose Baez created " a false narrative"
he lied thru his teeth about CA's father - it was sick and sickening
It worked for various reasons: but the entire defense was despicable.
The prosecution should not have gone for the death penalty without a cause of death but the jury had the option of finding her guilty on a lesser charge.

Jose Baez did his job and he did it remarkably well. Like it or not.
You KNOW Casey never confessed to him or anyone else. That left him free to create a defense. Just like in this case. IMO

In all my years following trials, the only one that comes to mind that I watched and always believed she was innocent was Cynthia Sommer - her murder conviction was eventually overturned.

In KR and AJ's latest interview aired on Super Bowl Sunday with Boston 25, the defense attorneys are no longer billing KR for their services.

Thanks. Mark Bederow was going to come on board pro bono as well. Judge said no. Says quite a lot about what all of these attorneys think about what is going on here.

No doubt about it, clearly, also judge not allowing MB pro bono. Scared enough, oh someone needs to come for her, do not understand, but I do. Must take A LOT to remove, a billion more times a lot.
