I would say that this is the first witness that's got the better of the defense lawyer cross examining him.
He's not like the other lame CW witnesses that clearly had an agenda.
I don't see that here. Just a dweeby, anal-retentive type of personality who honestly (in his mind) answers the questions and those answers are not what the defense lawyer is looking for.

Must be a perspective issue that people see things in a different manner because I find him very disagreeable and similar in attitude to previous witnesses the defense has called out on their inconsistencies. JMOO

He said if the vehicle was going more than 8 mph it would likely break the taillight. Under direct.
Ridiculously not true, and calls into question how much of an expert he really is.

By this standard, if im jogging and bump into a car tail light, it will break. That's so wrong. (It might bruise ME of course, because my body is not as hard.)

He's clearly done no testing and is making stuff up.

Welcher: “Don’t have enough information to determine that”

Over and over…..good job Alessi

  • #204
He keeps acting like he’s ’too good’ to be doing these equations. ‘The test showed it’ - that’s not how science works! MOO

  • #205
The 'ear-digging' he does while under cross is soooo gross.
🤢

"My slide shows this quite clearly."

Um......no, it doesn't.

And the white jeep has entered the testimony.
I'm curious if BH still has his office in the Canton Police building and if he still owns the white Jeep.
Oh, and has he checked into a re-hab yet.
imo

Welcher has no proof he actually considered alternate locations, positions of the body, etc. Wow. I mean, not surprising… but still wow.

So weird he doesn't have proof of things that didn't work. I think he is lying.

They are going to do a voir dire...

Think the judge wants to send the jury home soon.

Or he just only ever had one solution in mind. MOO.

He was too afraid he'd have to defend it in court. She he didn't actually try and determine it. Welcher is quite the expert.

But his arm was blue and JOK had an arm! Need I say more?

tomorrow will not be a full day, not sure when it will end.

Welcher might be the last witness for the CW?

Defense to start on Friday or Monday?

He didn't apply Newton's 2nd law to JOK's arm, but the arm position in the Blue Paint test was "physics." It's a very broad field, ya know.

I agree. I don’t think Alessi is floundering. This guy is talented, sure - talented at navigating around the question. Alessi is having to pin him down because he won’t answer straight. But still over and over, we’ve heard Welcher say he doesn’t know/they don’t have the data on actual details of the crash. MOO

Alessi's lack of criminal trial experience has really cost the defence today.

I always felt it was a questionable decision to give such a key role to an attorney whose experience is all in big litigation. He doesn't have the chops for a jury in a murder case in the way AJ does. Alessi is responsible for the DiSorga mess, and now he's spending all day drawing attention to his client driving 24 mph in reverse.

He ought to have had a hit list of points, come in for an hour or two and hit those points and end it.

All IMO.
Alessi's experience in technical and scientific matters is quite extensive.
He is the natural choice for cross for this witness.
He's doing very well with this extremely difficult "expert even though his CV on his employers website says otherwise" witness.
IMO.

It’s just insulting. If you are a professional, you should be willing to explain your work when YOU ARE HIRED AS AN EXPERT WITNESS IN A MURDER CASE. Instead he scoffs and poo poohs the idea of actually showing his work. MOO

I hope the defense asks him why there was no DNA on the light since he brought up DNA in closing with the CW
Yes, ask him where was the dna. And why wasn't there dna on tail lights.

I thought Alessi was guaranteed a ‘robust cross’

Give the expert enough rope and if he is unsure of the validity of his findings and opinion he will hang himself...this appears to be what is happening to Welcher. Jmo
He is so impressed with himself. It is just absolutely sickening.
