This 20/20 episode was frustrating to me. They didn’t seem to show much of the compelling evidence that lead to the NG verdicts. If I hadn’t followed the trial and only had that episode to go by, I would be left wondering how the jury came to their verdicts. IMO
Would you mind summarizing what was covered by Proctor.

I assume(d) it's an intervention program in place of jail. My state has a "hotel stay" where you're essentially locked in for a certain amount of time and do intensive programming for substance abuse and driving education.

It’s incredible to watch this 2020 special. Seeing all those cops lined up for his funeral is so different when not a single cop showed up in his support or for his family at both court cases. They chose to protect the people in that house instead of their dead colleague.
Wasn’t Higgins absent from the funeral?

Yeah that was my thoughts too, my comment was in response to someone saying she didn't thank them in court.
To be fair, I believe I did hear her thank them. And talking to them briefly in private is standard for a case like this.

A few that stand out: He half-heartedly said his texts were regrettable, he teared up about losing his job, he said the comment about her killing herself wasn’t serious and he makes “jokes” like that, and said he wouldn’t really change anything about the investigation except “maybe interview some people a little sooner.”

At his funeral there were tons of cops from all over the place. No cops showed up in court with John’s family. No show of support from any police. There was room because there were always empty seats, you’d think a cop that worked with John would show up once in a while for support but it seemed to always be Peggy, Paul, the ex girlfriend, his best friend, a cousin or two.

No. The experts said the head injury was not exclusive to just a car impact, which is obvious but obviously blunt force trauma is consistent with being hit by a car. He as obviously kneeling down or bent over for some reason when he was struck by the car. Its obviously a gray area because there is no 100% expected injuries from being hit by a car because of so many variables but there is no reasonable doubt.

She was at the scene of the crime. her tail light was damaged, he had serious head trauma. She went back to the scene of the crime at 6am and suggested out loud she might have hit him. The only other alternative was a grand conspiracy of at least a dozen people framing her. There is no reasonable doubt. This is comparable to the OJ case imo.
There was actual DNA - OJ’s at the scene that was proven to have been there before they drew his blood (no preservatives found in the blood at the scene like there would be in a vial of drawn blood)
Still though i understand why they said NG, the investigation was shady as all ever! & DNA evidence was new back then so they didn’t trust it due to all the shady stuff LE did. They still thought it COULD have come from the blood sample.

There was an absence of blood evidence in the KR case

Just a few drops in the snow where there should have been LOTS according to the CWs theory and none on her car or the taillight where there should have been dna evidence on at LEAST the tail light - what the CW said caused his arm wounds. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I looked it up:
Section 24D. Any person convicted of or charged with operating a motor vehicle with a percentage, by weight, of alcohol in their blood of eight one-hundredths or greater, or while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, controlled substance or while under the influence from smelling or inhaling the fumes of any substance having the property of releasing toxic vapors as defined in section 18 of chapter 270, may if such person consents, be placed on probation for not more than two years and shall, as a condition of probation, be assigned to a driver alcohol education program as provided herein and, if deemed necessary by the court, to an alcohol or controlled substance abuse treatment or rehabilitation program or to both, and such person's license or right to operate shall be suspended for a period of no less than forty-five nor more than ninety days...
Thank you for looking it up!

Yeh i saw that it was a proper police funeral, but wasn’t Higgins missing? Just curious

To have 12 people from all walks of life unanimously vote NG on not one, not two, but on 3 charges is incredible! The CW just wasn't able to prove that John was hit by her car, and therefore had to vote NG. It was as simple as that. And the OUI I believe must have been for 05:07 AM since that is the closest to when she was tested, and it was never proven she was drunk before John died and in fact, every single person said she was not drunk.
I would have voted the same way as the jury. She deserved to be guilty for the OUI because she was tested at around 07:30 in the morning, and found to be over the .08 mg, and she had been driving at 05:00 AM according to witnesses. And the jury chose over .08 rather than the other option of simply OIU so they used the evidence from the hospital to decide to go with that option.

Thank goodness the jury got it right! This has been such a bizarre witch hunt and unfortunately we'll never know the real story of how he got all those injuries.

I believe that the funeral wasn’t attended by anyone who was in that house.

Yes!

You don’t NEED a conspiracy to find her NG.

<modsnip: personalizing> You have reasonable doubt because there was no blood on the car when that was not required in the slightest for the prosecution theory just demonstrates this. Might as well say he had no broken bones therefore he was not hit by a car, reasonable doubt!!

I heard her thank them. There was a lot going on right after the verdict was read, and all eyes were on Karen and her lawyers crying, and hugging, but yes, she thanked the jurors during all of that.

I had expected him to say...... take pictures of the tail light before towing it...

But nope.

Unreal.

Oh yeh! I forgot that one bullet point in my list. No broken bones in arm or hand. Yes! More reasonable doubt. Thx for the reminder 🙌

I'm not interested in drama, only evidence. If he was hit at low speed its difficult to have clear evidence of being hit by a car especially in snow. I have seen people get hit at speed and get right up. He was clearly hit hard enough to get knocked out. The theory he was dragged there from inside the house is contradicted by clean snow around him , no foot prints nothing. apparently he was magically placed there by the group who killed him for no reason.
Two medical examiners disagree with you.

IOW he's not repentant at all, is grieving the loss of his beloved job, minimizing his "jokes" and hasn't learned much of anything in a year. Despicable human.
