Despicable? How so? Because she wouldn't be bullied on the stand? Because she told the truth? Ever wonder why she wasn't called in the first trial?

Dever didn't even want to admit that there were cameras in the sallyport. The judge had to intervene to get a straight answer out of her.

And those long, painful pauses before she answered any of AJ's questions (but not HB's). If someone was just speaking truthfully, they would reply immediately. You could almost see the cogs turning in her head. She was obviously her trying to answer in the way that her bosses wanted. But she isn't very quick, so it was taking her a while to process how to respond.

Ever wonder why she wasn't called in the first trial?
I'm not exactly sure what you're suggesting here. She wasn't called because she recanted her testimony after meeting with the BPD commissioner. The defense knew she was lying but it's always a risk to call a hostile witness. It was a strategic decision to not call her in trial one, but they decided to go for it in the second trial.

I have said before that if Dever had simply acted cool and collected on the stand and just testified to exactly what she knew, her testimony would have been a giant zero. She could have said "This is what I told the FBI, but I have since learned that I wasn't there that afternoon, so the memory may have been from a different time/place. I can't explain the discrepancy." Instead her intransigence, bad attitude, and that Psych 101 mumbo-jumbo about false memories played right into the defense's hands.

I think it's telling in a trial filled with so many spectacular moments, Kelly Dever's testimony that she didn't see anything is one of the most memorable. That says a lot about how unbelievable and frankly ridiculous she was on the stand. It's a disgrace for a sworn police officer to act out the way she did.

Several of the lawtubers said she was the worst trial witness they'd ever seen, in either their professional or youtube trial-watching careers.

I do get a chuckle when anyone tries to insist she was honest and forthcoming. Her career is likely over (it should be) and I'd normally feel sorry for someone in this position but she came across as such an incredibly nasty person. She should not have a gun.

If you are wondering about KR's civil trial, this below is a very informative extended interview between a podcast lawyer and KR's civil attorney. It shares how civil case procedures differ. KR lawyer provides a lot of behind-the-scenes info from the criminal case as well that he saw. He was in the courtroom a lot, observing the testimony. He shares how Brennan tried to use the civil case to gain access to testimony to use in the criminal case (that was really not supposed to be allowed) and how he stopped it. And much more.

One snippet: he said the civil case prep has already begun and will be a marathon process, with very much work, and the trial itself likely to be set to be held in early 2027. Yes, 2027!

My favorite statement was that Karen's attorneys "owned that court room!". They were definitely the dream team. Great video to watch. Very informative and uplifting. Thanks Steve!

Proctor will never get his job back. He likely knows that and is just going through the motions. MOO

I dunno, I can see him being assigned to desk duty. The Union came out in support of him, and he is still qualified to be a Police Officer. He does not earn my trust or respect, but the system is corrupt. IMO

My Favorite - After Prosecutor Lally had cross examined ARRCO expert, Jackson asked the expert 'Did any of that Lally razzle dazzle change your opinion'. That to me was the best Attorney phrase I have ever heard! It added humor, mocked Lallys ability, and likely impressed the jurors.

I love KR, but in my opinion she should not be giving interviews. They can get her into trouble with the law. If someone is out to get KR, This could be construed as borderline defamation of a witness.

She will probably get a payraise and a desk job. She previously got a 57% raise - after seeing the commissioner. May not be related. imo

Yeah, ..... but if a civil case fails then can they drop down to the Witchcraft courts? Is that still the way they can still do it in MA if those laws still on the books? ? I think there's quite a lot of prosecution leeway in those trials.
Have to say this made me stop & check😂. As a retired lawyer & lifelong MA resident this case has been hugely eye opening. I live way out in Western MA, the Berkshires & had no prior knowledge of the kind of corruption clearly going on in Norfolk County at every level of the justice system. Much of it casual corruption. But no less damaging to the citizenry.

I don’t think she said anything defamatory. If stating an opinion that Devers told a lie vs believing she had a “false memory” is defamation then pretty much everyone commenting on this trial is also guilty. Jmo
As a side note, of course the reporter misstates the facts in his question. Devers was not “confronted” with evidence from the fbi that the car wasn’t there when she left. This is what the CW/LE supposedly told her to convince her she had a “false memory”.

His title here is a wee bit misleading. The interviewee was hired to represent Read's parents because Paul's attorneys wanted to depose them before the case was held up by the criminal case. He explains this in the interview; he's not Read's civil attorney.

That is how he started with the case, Yanetti reached out to him to help with Read's parents, he was then asked by the insurance company to represent Karen, along with a few new ones as well. In that interview, it sounded like her original lawyers were just gonna allow them to be deposed, and he did such a good job in arguing against it, he was asked to join them or help.

Damon Seligson was actually in court on many days during the 2nd trial ;) A lot of the same evidence will be used in the civil trial, but hoping even more of what the defense was not able to use in the criminal trial. I believe the other 2 from the firm he works at were added last week.

Here is an article from a few days:

Specifically, Damon Seligson, Charles Waters and Aaron D. Rosenberg all joined Read’s defense team last week, according to court filings. They join three lawyers from the firm Melick & Porter, who already represented Read: Christopher George, William L. Keville Jr. and Marissa K. Palladini.

Problem is, she made the commissioner look guilty of tampering here. Which is not a good thing for him, even if he didn't intend it that way.

Seeing a lot of different people saying Shannon Burgess has been let go from Aperture. His page is gone on their website! Quite the body count in the aftermath of this trial. Just shows you how bad it was handled.

Another cop in the text chain rehomed and Shanon Burgess is no longer on aperture’s website. The fallout from this trial continues.

That union would support a convicted mass murderer. Just sayin'. I don't think he'll be back though.

Interesting find there @Derph ….. and sure looks that way. Also IMO might mean that Aperture LLC might now have been paid by the CW for their services in this case? SMH. MOO
