The only thing with this kid being a possibility is the deceased had a bike lock. Now, that's not to say Schaff didn't have a bicycle, but the fact his main mode of transport was a vehicle kinda makes him not as plausible for me. But hey, any tip or suggestion is a good one!!!!

I don't really think it's Jonathan, I'm just left scratching my head. I don't come to the Unidentified forum often because these cases often make me more sad than an "identified" missing person, if that makes sense. So many Jane and John Does in the world. Abandoned and forgotten...

It's so hard to fathom, isn't it? Especially ones from the 70s and 80s... it's like, how can these people NOT have any family missing them!? :banghead:

Granted, there was this one case where this guy had relocated from AL to VA. He was out working one day, had a heart attack, ran into a BK and dropped dead, no ID. His family had posted on a message board "Uncle Sam, we miss you, call us!" but no one ever reported him missing I guess? I'm going to try and convince myself every UID has family that cares..

Actually banana republic boxers are well known for boxers like these w toast and bacon and eggs on them form giraffes, they r our favorites actually because of the silliest patterns ever. My DH loves them lil. Opso do I. Only someone intimate would know about those shorts or possibly a roommate.

No recent news stories have been published. Contacted the case manager for JG today and he hasn't been excluded YET, but the Boxer Doe is still unidentified.

maybe not, my 16 year old son is 6"3 and 200 and is tall and slim w big shoulders. he is muscular but lean.

Under "Physical" in the link, it mentions twice that the head was not recovered.

This is the first that I recall about the head not being recovered.
There is a photo of the key, but not clothing.

what is also interesting about the Namus comments is that there was a wool hat found with the remains yet the head wasn't recovered? Strange...I wonder where they found the wool hat??

Massachusetts is not on the leading edge of using Namus for unidentified and missing persons cases.

ETA: On closer reading of his information, I see "one or both hands not recovered," and no fingerprints available.

The name isn't being released, but based on the information in the article, I think it's probably James Gollahan https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/22530 he was reported missing from Cambridge on the same date and with the same intention of disappearing into the wilderness.

More than a year later, a tipster who saw those images contacted state police detectives with information that the deceased may have been a man reported missing on Oct. 30, 2013.

Armed with a name, troopers contacted the NamUs regional system administrator for Massachusetts, who obtained a voluntary DNA sample from the tip subject's father in Utah. That sample proved a familial match after testing by the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.

Astridxxx sent in this dude to the Namus administrator shortly after the body was found. Sounds like the information never made it through to them, though.

OMG I got one! Wow.. if it is him (which literally every detail in the story matches Gollohan's info on NAMUS)... I'm so sorry for his family. Even if it isn't him, I'm sorry for the deceased's family. I'm glad whoever he is has been returned to his family, and they have the closure they were probably so desperately seeking.

It's such a mixed feeling, isn't it? If there was a way to identify all the lost deceased, and still have all our missing found alive, that would be so much better.
