"officers reported finding nothing; only an old leather belt hanging from a tree attracted a brief stop and closer look."

I sure hope that got a "brief stop" and a "closer look"... Considering.. Sheesh!

Yeah but that's what they would tell us initially. Honestly...they tend to shift stories and facts around. They don't want us knowing everything. However they have perp DNA that came directly off of her, so if the belt is his, I'm sure there are fingerprints. Doubtful he left DNA on the victim and needed to burn her BUT had gloves on when he belted himself that morning...nah. JMO. I'll have go back and read..LE searched 50 (ft, yards..not sure) both sides of the road and it was discovered. Doesn't sound like direct in the crime scene to me. I was just curious about it since the news mentioned it. JMO.

Not local, I'm in Atlanta, you can go back and watch news videos and see the bags. They look pretty full to me.
Read the articles, it talks about LE digging and taking things with them. :) JMO.
I've read about all this and seen those videos. I just got all excited for a minute there! idk..it's Friday =-)

It's ok. LOL Happy Friday!

Hmm well....what about him setting another fire elsewhere to divert their attention there? Timeline is so tight (on the reportings). I guess could be coincidence. JMO

I just go with what's been reported.

The belt made me think of auto-erotic asphyxiation

I was asking based on what the other person said. You cleared that up quick. I'm at work so no access to the timeline. :) I thought they knew when they posted their times. She was found at night so its not related. JMO.

happy Friday fellow WS'ers. We might be going thru withdrawal this weekend as it looks like this site may be down for maintenance sporadically...... I mean I actually might have to do something around the house this weekend if WS is shut down.

lol

One thing to note: LE does not change the facts of the case. More often than not they will just not say anything or what they do say doesn't really disclose much to the public. That's done on purpose as the main focus is to protect the integrity of the case, not assuage the curiosity of the public.

It's the media and looky-loos, and speculators and rumormongers who either get things wrong, makes things up, twists words that were said, or (inadvertently or on purpose) starts a rumor and someone else runs with it.

Did anyone see this odd report? Not sure why this reporter is picking up items that he suspects may be evidence! and I'm also curious about the witness that claims that he might be the last person to have seen VM jogging . Also, wonder why he said he went up the road and turned around.. Why would he have turned around? Odd.. Everything about this report...

Oh goodness... That detail coupled with the burning of the trees up farther than ground level is really chilling..

If what you insinuate took place then the Vanessa's perpetrator is not only a rapist and a murderer but also a sexual sadist.
Unfortunately, I fear that is the case.

I just watched the report. Definitely interesting! That guy is Ted Williams, a former DC homicide detective, so I'm sure he knows about preserving evidence. Also, I don't see police just missing those items, meaning they came after? As for the car, I'm wondering if this is why police are so interested in the car! Curious if the witness remember details too! Interesting video for sure.

That report is just sensationalist junk, IMO. If he thought that trash was important what is he doing touching it. Honestly. It Doesn't take a genius. It's roadside trash. There is nothing important in that report.
Apparently this guy thinks that cops are idiots. I can understand why he may be a "former" detective.

Found it! http://www.telegram.com/article/20160808/NEWS/160809371 - did he tie her to the tree or hang her up with it or is it completely unrelated at all? The burn pattern is odd how its up high and not at bottom of tree. At first when I read this I thought oh the guy hung his belt up taking it off to rape her...then I was like..who has time to hang up a belt? Why would you? IDK. JMO.

Doesn't sound like they found the belt at the actual crime scene:

http://www.telegram.com/article/20160808/NEWS/160809371
At about 1 p.m., a team of officers spread into the woods about 50 yards on both sides of the street and swept north toward the hilltop common at the center of the small, rural town. In their search for clues in the case, officers reported finding nothing; only an old leather belt hanging from a tree attracted a brief stop and closer look.

This (if true) is huge. I'm curious as to why Greta didn't follow up with questions about this witness.

We do learn a few things from this video:
1) the crime scene appears to have been released. MSP drove by while he was speaking and didn't stop.
2) We now know which direction she took for her jog
3) she was seen after 1pm on Brook Station Road by a witness (a man)
4) now we know why the police are insistent about a car. That witness came forward and is credible
5) someone else must have been able to state that at 3 there was no car present on Brook Station Road because the time line changed.

I think the eyewitness report of VM and a car is important ... if true. Maybe this info is why they are asking the public about a vehicle. This is the first time I am hearing about an eyewitness to seeing her on BSR. I know there was a call logged about seeing a woman walking down BSR but not sure if it was the day VM went missing because it's logged on Aug 8.
