An article I hadn't seen before about the helicopters and the air search from 8.8.16

Residents near Brooks Station Road said this morning they received a “Robo-call” around 8 p.m. Sunday asking them to be on the lookout for the woman.

Christian and Laura Gal said the call didn’t offer a lot of information but they did turn on their outside lights and check their yard during what they thought was an extensive search of their neighborhood by police.

“There was a helicopter with a spotlight,” Laura Gal said as she and her husband walked their Labrador retrievers on Radford Road just after 6 a.m.

I know local FB friends were posting the night she was missing about the helicopters still being over head.

I wonder if the man who was interviewed had a car that he thoroughly washed the next day? JMO

There was a fox25 news story where a profiler walked the woods and he believed there was evidence of a struggle in those woods.

But I don't think anything has been confirmed, more that was his opinion.

It would point to it all happening there certainly.

If it did all happen there, that would certainly narrow down possible scenarios.
If I'm not mistaken, I seem to recall somewhere that some of the surrounding trees were black halfway up the trunks (from the fire)? If this is correct, it seems the "fire" had to be somewhat substantial?! Was it too green in that area that the chance of fire spreading was nil?

I mean, it was far enough off the road, I guess, but I'd think there would have been smoke and flames.

Also, if an accelerant was used the perp had to have it handy which points to premeditation.

There are several possibilities. It could be someone who lives near by and could have come back. It's also not that unusual around her for someone to have gas in the bed of their truck.

It's also possible she was killed somewhere else, premeditated or not....and then dumped there, in which case they could have brought whatever supplies with them along with the body.

It does make me wonder though.

If he was waiting for her and ambushed her and dragged her back.... Did he already have a gas tank or other supplies back down the path and a specific spot picked out.....or would he have to walk back to his vehicle and get the supplies. Or did he drive the vehicle back down that path? ..... Seems like too much brush for a low vehicle but a higher vehicle would be able to drive down it.

If she was killed elsewhere was it planned or did something happen/go wrong?

If she was killed elsewhere and it was planned the perp might already have supplies planned out and in his vehicle. But if something went wrong and it wasn't planned, he would quickly be racking his brain on how to cover his tracks....and may come up with a plan to make it look like she was killed there....in which case he would have to collect supplies easily at his disposal like gas tanks or maybe hand held blow torches might be in a garage at home.

Btw I had read that about the trees too. So I think she was burned there.

But if she had been I a house or a car someone might hope burning would remove fiber evidence tying his vehicle or home to the crime

I've been off hunting for a link or a photo to substantiate this. Any pointers? I'm out of ideas

Personally I think becoming a victim is less about what you where, or if you carry pepper spray then it is about minimizing your vulnerability by constantly being aware of your surroundings and not put yourself in a situation you can be taken advantage of.

By that I mean, if you are alone, avoid walking past areas that someone could easily drag you away quick and there would be no one nearby to deter them.

When I was in grad school in NY for example and had to be at school or the library late and walk home by myself after, I'd alter my route home to only walk on the busier roads where it was more likely others where around and cars would be driving by. I avoided taking the quiet more residential streets because I knew walking there made me much more vulnerable....that if someone had been down there ready to jump out, I simply would have given him an easier chance at being successful.

Also I'm not sure I completed agree with the phone thing. When I am nervous about my surrounding, like I was once trying to find an art gallery in an industrial part of New York and it was getting dark, I always call my my and start talking very loud about where I am and what I see.....I always felt it would be a deterrent to someone who would want to attack me because the person on the other line clearly knows exactly where I am.

Agree. A killer can tell if you are totally engaged on the phone. Or if you got that phone near ear to report or deter someone from thinking that you are unaware and ready to report whats about to happen if necessary.

I have a question and maybe you can help..I thought VM was found 30 feet from the road but some are saying 30 yards. That is a huge difference and I can't find any article that states the distance. Anybody got one?

It was more than 30ft. I could tell that just from the video with that Fox reporter guy. I think 30 yards (at least).

Station Rd. between 1:20 and 1:25 p.m.
5:07 p.m. Caller reports seeing a vehicle parked beside Brooks
Station Rd. with its hood up, male outside vehicle
5:13 p.m. Caller reports seeing black stretch limo on side of
road and two men on their phones, Brooks Station Rd."

Thanks!
Wonder if they meant 100 feet? I would expect some fudging and deception to keep people away and only the killer and LE knows for sure.

You are generous. I'm thinking it's sloppy reporting. :)

These are from the afternoon Vanessa went missing? Hmmm......

Have to say, the stretch limo is a surprise.
