Yes - although I'm not sure they would have had the killer's DNA for Marcotte by Aug 8-9 when her body was found the night of the seventh. And nothing about a lack of relationship since. And no cause of death. Usually that is released, right? How often do they hold even that back for two months?

If (huge if) they are related, my guess is it's not someone from NY. NY could be a diversion, in the same way the cart path may have been. Two Ny women shouts "this killer is from NY." The cart path shouts "there was a car on Brooks Station Road." But then most of the time the obvious answer is the right one.

BBM; In cases I have followed COD / MOD are often not released until an arrest. I think that has to do with not tipping off the perp as to what is known. LE has nothing to gain by releasing that and at this stage with no known POI there is no advantage in telling the public that detail.

Yes. There are many reasons why it seems a remote possibility. I think the strongest, aside from the difficulties with the stalking angle, is the DNA. It is clear that they have DNA from Vanessa, even though LE has not reported it specifically, but they did report that he is male. Not many ways to determine that with certainty without DNA. A blood sample or semen would also yield DNA.
Karina's murderer left his DNA as well so LE would at least know if they both matched each other.

That would be huge and I can't think of any reason that LE would not announce such a huge breakthrough. In both cases, no match has been found in the system. The gentleman in his socks who volunteered his DNA was IMO a dead end.

I don't think they are the same person but I would not say for certain they are unrelated. It is possible that VM's killer is a copycat, or that both killers know each other, or that they both are runners, belong to a running club, Facebook group, etc., Or any combination.

So JMO but I don't have a "feel" for a serial killer. Amateur wannabes maybe.+

"That DNA was checked against a state and nationwide database, but investigators were not able to match it to anyone in the system, Boyce said, according to ABC7. The samples were collected from Vetrano’s cellphone, her neck, and other parts of her body."

"wenty-seven-year-old Vanessa Marcotte was killed almost two weeks ago, but no arrests have been made in her case. Authorities have tested DNA in this case; however, they are still waiting for some results to come back. Meanwhile, they’re still looking for any information related to her death."

You mention runners and clubs, so the man could have been running that day.

BBM: I agree. It was on Thursday The 11th When Early said he was male.
"On Thursday, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said that investigators believe Marcotte fought with her killer and that they were looking for a man with cuts, bruises or scratches."

Thanks again for all the feedback. This is a great forum.

Signing off.

So If by chance he was running when this happened, that opens up the possibility he went to a location nearby to get his vehicle afterwards to go back quickly to cover things up.

Someone posted the possibility of running clubs. Was she known to be in any?

I read somewhere the burns were post-mortem. So that's not a sign of sadism (as I guessed earlier) though I think the site layout still suggests more than DNA destruction. Lack of a second site may also suggest someone who didn't want to spend a lot of time torturing the victim while alive, someone not used to spending a lot of time with women. If so, any sexual-type violation would also probably be post-mortem and death may have occurred fairly quickly rather than later, which is better than the other alternative. This would also make sense, considering how quiet the area is.

All I can say is, and of small consolation, is that I hope she scratched the cr@p out of him.
As a matter of fact, she might have even gotten to one of his eyes. I wonder if she bit him too; that would be great evidence .
Scratches and bite marks don't disapear quickly.

Good question. A bite mark scar would remain to be seen for a long time.

Not that has been published. My speculation of runner's clubs, Facebook groups Or even App friends is based on my knowledge of special interest social media groups and etc. Some people I know in another state belong to a local runner's club. They have meets and functions, etc. They also use apps to share their runs, routes and times. I think such things are fairly common.

My thinking is less toward a private, lone stalker as more toward someone who knew her and also knew the perp in KV's case and they are sharing their experiences

JMO.

There are many aspects of this to be figured out. I have confidence, they are piecing it all together. What matters most is for this person to be stopped before doing this again.

And even healed scratches, bite marks, bruises, etc. can be detected long after the fact just by studying skin cells. Sure a warrant would be needed but if they had a POI it would not be hard to get a warrant to study scars, IMO

I have mentioned it before, but it appears things went wrong for him with her unexpected level of fighting . This could mean he is experienced but the fight brought a rushed cover up only appearing disorganized, yet from experience he knew what to do.

I am a little clouded on Vanessas phone and correct me if I am wrong but all that was found was clothing and one running shoe?

I don't know where the information about the running shoe came from, but I don't think exactly what they found has been released.

[FONT=&quot]Here you go. I saw this a few other places too.

"He said police searched for the victim's clothes, cellphone and earbuds but came up empty. A partially burned sneaker was found near her body, the source said."

Hopefully anyone knowing someone in the area who may have wounds in that time frame have come forward or if they haven't but concerned about something they will.

To know something and not come forward is obstructing justice.

  • #580
Perhaps the person left the area after the crime, or found some other way to "disappear"...
