I've re-submitted Gerald as a potential match to these remains. I previously corresponded via email with the NamUs rep. Today I spoke with Maureen Hume at the ME's office. I posted details of the conversation in Gerald's thread.

CASE #9

A human skull was found submerged in the water behind the Back Eddy restaurant in Westport by a man quahogging on Oct. 6, 2010.

“The state police dive team went to see if there’s any other potential evidence or bones connected to that, they didn’t find any,” Quinn said.

A forensic anthropologist determined the skull likely belonged to a Caucasian man, between the ages of 30 and 70.

That person could have died anywhere from six months to several years before the skull was discovered.

Investigators began to speculate the skull may belong to one of three men involved in boating incidents in the 1970s.

“There were three men who died in accidents in the '70s in Westport, boating accidents or mishaps, their skulls were not recovered although other portions of two of their bodies were,” Quinn said.

A family member of one of those victims has provided DNA to see whether it matches the DNA profile extracted from the skull.

If the DNA isn’t a match, forensic genetic genealogical testing will continue.
