There are several 24 hour establishments within a short distance. For him to have died close by of hypothermia, his phone would need to be dead, no one around to ask for help or to borrow a phone, and he would need to ignore the parking ramps, pizza parlours, mini marts and etc.
Where did everyone park? The market appears to be across from the side entrance to the Bell in Hand (the front is on Union with double doors and the carpet). I think it is possible they went out the front and didn't see him, then walked to the car. I speculate that Zach was not in the best mood either because he was waiting for them and pissed he was stuck outside, or because of whatever incident got him bounced out (trying to figure out the tone of his "Let's go home" text). It does not seem farfetched to me that he got left there and hitched a ride, and from there the mystery begins. This is assuming LE really has no further evidence of him on CCTV anywhere around there.
I hope they checked the dumpsters.
This is something that bothered me too. Being from out of town, he wouldn't have likely known where the 24hr. places were. Due to the extreme cold, and the late hour, people were likely scarce...
I remember a time, when I was looking for a place in Cambridge, I had stayed with a friend in the area, was taking a Greyhound back home, friend had to drop me, and my toddler off at the bus station a couple hours before our bus arrived. No big deal, warm station, I had luggage, snacks, a good book, we would survive the wait...
My friend dropped us off, and as I was about to enter the station, an employee came out and locked the door! ( Feb, and freezing out!).
I was like, "Hey, what's going on?"
"Oh. We close at six."
"Ummm. The bus doesn't come till eight. Where do people wait?"
*points to an outdoor plexiglass shelter* and hurries away!
I could feel fear in the pit of my stomache. No way could I stand out of doors with a two yr old, and luggage, in that extreme cold. We were already feeling it...
A person happened by, and I asked them, " is there anywhere, a Dunken Doughnuts, or something close by, we could wait?"
They were like, " oh yeah, just go round the back of the bus station, cut through the Laundry Matt parking lot, turn left, and there's a D&D. It's about a three minute walk from here."
I took my child there, and we waited till eight, in the warmth. Left about quarter to eight, so as not to miss our bus, and still it was SO cold those several minutes waiting for that bus!
I wonder, who, at 2am, offered assistance, to this child?
