I wpuld have said I think he drowned- it waS like in the water knew his location to me creeped me out

Ahh. I see your point. Maybe with officials telling family, we think he's in the water, we're going to search there, they came to believe he was likely...in the water?

Yes he is looking in direction ot bell in hand. It is right across the street in direction he is looking.

and his head leaning forward --looking for help/ releif to see his cousins this is the pic that breaks my heart

He does seem to be intently looking, perhaps for his cousins.

Also, I agree with earlier posts that I am almost certain that those are indeed a pair of legs in upper right window in tan boots. And what appears to be a slightly bent at the knee leg in the middle window. Wish I knew if the female cousin was wearing high tan boots....

Hi ninj

Like your posts they are empathic--respectfully, this has been asked before -- why is a person standing where he has ended up, at a bar, on a Friday, on closing a deal

As we have gone thro, I have been amazed at how few are around

then I tell nyself its nine below zero---- question answered !!

Look at the distance from the Bell and Hand to the closest Police Station.

https://goo.gl/maps/k5vBeCnrVap

but, he did not know city ,, from all the pics, if I was drunk, I would get so lost, I would still there lost from 1980!!!

We have to remember he is living in a city of 2500! That so matters here ....

This is big change for the kid!!

o/t but this started cause of awful temperatures we are dealing with
0 degrees !

here is a warm persons perception of what you all have to deal with 10 degrees

:My perception only:

visited people in this cr&p

wake up

need to take doggies out

if you dont put 10 pounds of stuff on your face will fall off

get back in heated house

take off 10 pounds clothing

shower

cold but not as bad only 4 pounds needed

get dressed for office

gotta leave house for car

again if you dont put ten pounds on your face will fall off again

put on 10 pouds

get in car your cold

start car heat

need to shred ten tons again

want a coffee

if you dont put on the 10 pound, once again ,your face gone if you dont rearm

get into heated store with a checkout line

sweating

remove ten tons

but have to get back to your car -ten tons back on

get your heated car

have to shread ten tons again

get to your office

have to put on tens tons again to get to your heated office building

get to your heated office

have to shred 10 tons again

want to go out for smoke

put back on tens tons

done with cig

office heated

take ten ton off again

lunc h

put back on ten tons

get into car warmer than thise Am

have to shred again

by the end of the day your wiped from all putting on taking off and we shall ignore the stress of your car not going skating

all this while white beatyiful snow turns into black dirty disgusting pounds of cr#p on the side of the roads

lets not forget having to bake your windows before departure, shovling your driveway to get to a clogged roadway and deal with all the delays from cars that ice skating

give me 80 degrees with AC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now funny story -- in this mess, went to smoke their neighbors were outside warming their truck to go on

thus far i had not hit an ice skating arena under the loose snow -- well I did-- I became a ballarina for 15 seconds- i did not go down but my perfromance was Olypic

I never looked off the sidewalk again

one more boo boo and I was not qualifing for the gold and went down backwards it hurt

IMO to much work and risk

That would be the first thing id do if I was left out in the freezing cold and had no where to go.
Id start checking car doors to find one that was unlocked

adding to the problem here

there have been no pressers that I know of which leads me ........................................

Hi labor

nice to see u here -- this is a mess

Yes!
Dead in a car!

Yuk -- but the ME will be able, IMO, to give us more info as oppsed to being in frigid water ,

I also dont know why but I hope no family member is reading any of this that is weird huh???

There are several 24 hour establishments within a short distance. For him to have died close by of hypothermia, his phone would need to be dead, no one around to ask for help or to borrow a phone, and he would need to ignore the parking ramps, pizza parlours, mini marts and etc.

Where did everyone park? The market appears to be across from the side entrance to the Bell in Hand (the front is on Union with double doors and the carpet). I think it is possible they went out the front and didn't see him, then walked to the car. I speculate that Zach was not in the best mood either because he was waiting for them and pissed he was stuck outside, or because of whatever incident got him bounced out (trying to figure out the tone of his "Let's go home" text). It does not seem farfetched to me that he got left there and hitched a ride, and from there the mystery begins. This is assuming LE really has no further evidence of him on CCTV anywhere around there.

I hope they checked the dumpsters.

If you've acclimated to Colder climes, it's really not that bad. Yeah you need to wear boots and a warm coat, but you don't need everest gear. Hopefully you wake up to a warm home, remotely start your car and have it warming itself up while you have a cup of coffee, ( that you set the timer on, to be ready when you got up), quick walk to your warm car, and then off you go!

It's not like we're all shivering waiting for Ebenezer to bring us a new piece of coal! Lol!

I spent last summer on Fort Sill in Oklahoma, and I jokingly desribed OK as,"A scenic oven". Even thought the air is dry, Man, is it ever hot out there! The best ya can do is play with kids in the back yard with the hose and the kiddie pool. ( plus the gorgeous salt water pools on base!).
Thank God for AC! But there's nothing you can *wear* to get relief from the brutal heat!

Not really sure I'd go there. I'd want to get warm, not arrested. Lol.

Agreed. I've been here my whole life and it really doesn't bother me. Unless you work outside, the cold is just an incovenience that is temporary. Although last weekend was colder than I can ever remember and I worry what it can do to a person in combo with alcohol. Funny thing is, I don't remember hearing of any weather related deaths last weekend despite the record cold.

Therapist in the house. It strikes me as sad, that no family

member(Yes I am making the assuption that dad reference to " issues" was related to substance abuse, depression, possibly a previous duicide attempt) has openly declared such.

Which tranlates to family system not ackowledging that it is out of ones control, and that the family system focused on it as behaviors. You got a Dui quit drinking, you would not have attacked him and got arrested if you were not drinking. Making this uo,.

Dad strikes me as a simple man without a lot of education, and for Zach, pretty limited support , authentically IF it was substance abuse Issues, not all that helpful in authentic recovery

For me , the fact that the cousins gave up the serach for him. after 600 seconds, indicates that the family system is like oh, he has done this kinda c r&p before, he is drunk but he will be fine.

A ten minute "search" in this case really translates to not all that much concern, or belivng that really at the end of the day Oh, Zach has done this BS before, its late , cold I am tired lets just go home

The time, 10 am of contacting authorties , indicates one of two things . They too, were blitzed,Or they did not get concerned for what would be a long time for a family member that had NEVER displayed this behavior previously

just ny take

Right. Record breaking cold. Literally. This is where that, margin of error, and getting Real, has to come into play. Mostly we don't have to worry, but sometimes you do. I have heard of other deaths, and close calls, because people didn't want to change/cancel the plans they had for school vacation! We changed some of our plans, to play it safe and stay in over that weekend... We did have a most awesome, indoor snowball fight, using snow from the balcony though!

No way would I ever give up Autumn in New England! There is no comfort worth my beloved Indian Summers!

Me too, breaking into a car would not even cross my mind--even if I knew I was dying! Just would not cros my mind

Also..........................I think its bad that LE has not held a presser- evne if to come out and say nothing. But for the family nothing for the last 4 days would result in me thinking noone caring or honestly trying to find out what happended to my reativr - that is just copassion

at the same time it leans me in the direction that LE has been concerned about a sweial killer, have never assressed publicaay which mahes them conplican and open to either charges cival or even criminal jmoo

Random thoughts...

In the time frame between leaving and going missing (maybe 30 minutes?) yes, it was cold, but he's a young kid -- fit, healthy, who was raised in and is used to this climate. Not dressed warm, but certainly dressed to move. You'd stick your phone in your pocket, pull your sleeves over your hands, put your head down, and jog or walk briskly. Keep moving. Maybe say, 'OK, I'll do a loop around the block and by the time I'm back they'll be out.' He can't have been the only person (we know he wasn't) that was on the street, with bars letting out. Would he not say to someone, 'hey, I can't get in to get my jacket. Where can I hang out for 10 minutes and warm up until my friends come out?' Or if his phone died, asking to borrow one for a quick call to his party inside. Who doesn't have a phone? Who's going to say no? I don't think he was blitzed, so I just don't see the wander off and freeze scenario, which makes the statement that he was last seen heading toward the surface artery perplexing. If he was unfamiliar with the city, why would he head off in a direction AWAY from what he knew?

I would think finding the three people we can see in the front door image would be critical. Anything they could offer would be valuable, especially their observations as to his physical state. Did he look sober? Did his phone ring? Did he make a call? Did anybody stop and talk to him? A kid with no coat would get your attention. Surely one of them would have noticed something. What troubles me is that both he AND HIS PHONE seem to drop off the grid simultaneously. Under what circumstances could this happen? Something traumatic? Something sinister? Something deliberate on his part? Or just one more thing in a confluence of really crappy events...

The lack of follow up in the media from both the family and law enforcement feels oddly quiet. You would think that publicity, keeping his face in the public's view, would be first and foremost to resolving this mystery, but it doesn't seem to be. This young man's picture should be in a prominent, fixed spot on every Boston/MA media and law enforcement website until he's located, yes? Where is it?

This is something that bothered me too. Being from out of town, he wouldn't have likely known where the 24hr. places were. Due to the extreme cold, and the late hour, people were likely scarce...

I remember a time, when I was looking for a place in Cambridge, I had stayed with a friend in the area, was taking a Greyhound back home, friend had to drop me, and my toddler off at the bus station a couple hours before our bus arrived. No big deal, warm station, I had luggage, snacks, a good book, we would survive the wait...

My friend dropped us off, and as I was about to enter the station, an employee came out and locked the door! ( Feb, and freezing out!).
I was like, "Hey, what's going on?"
"Oh. We close at six."
"Ummm. The bus doesn't come till eight. Where do people wait?"
*points to an outdoor plexiglass shelter* and hurries away!

I could feel fear in the pit of my stomache. No way could I stand out of doors with a two yr old, and luggage, in that extreme cold. We were already feeling it...

A person happened by, and I asked them, " is there anywhere, a Dunken Doughnuts, or something close by, we could wait?"

They were like, " oh yeah, just go round the back of the bus station, cut through the Laundry Matt parking lot, turn left, and there's a D&D. It's about a three minute walk from here."

I took my child there, and we waited till eight, in the warmth. Left about quarter to eight, so as not to miss our bus, and still it was SO cold those several minutes waiting for that bus!

I wonder, who, at 2am, offered assistance, to this child?

Terrific post !!
